Fun Fact: This video is the first to showcase the accurate colour palette of England. :)
palette !!!!!!!! >:(
Say you've never been to England without saying you've never been to England
@@thesegundovolante fucking London area, then...
lmao
Fun fact: Why am I here?
So, when Dave forgets to colour his nails, all colour goes out of the world?
He's too powerful
Dave colors his nails?
@@fandyus4125 Well I've always assumed he painted them with nail polish, but given TLJ's reply, I'm wondering if there is a more supernatural explanation :)
@@tfrtrouble Has he always had that? Because the one vid I've seen it on, it looked more like he injured himself but idk
@@fandyus4125 lol Well at times they're multicoloured, so working on the (unproven) assumption that he's merely human, I'd say he sometimes paints them.
Aaaaaand we have a new favourite!
Glad to see you’re a Longest Johns fan, Colm.
So true!
The man, the myth, the legend
Same!
@@reallysmallbird maybe a long john?
I don't know why, but it makes me laugh every time they cut to Dave not doing anything but just sort of vibing. It's like he's the one kid who doesn't say anything during the class presentation, he just stands up there with the rest of his group and nods.
remember when in oak and ash and thorn they gave him a stick and he just kinda stood there holding it
@@clarabeara69 How could I forget?
Lmao
He wasn’t JUST holding the stick he was using it to play the planet as an instrument
@@thelonelyirishman1916 ah, yet another reader of the best comment on the platform.
Imagine a Moby Duck music video where you guys are fighting a huge inflatable duck on a lake
Or maybe just being chased by a normal sized duck.
I need this.
@@samhill6444 Or being chased by a normal-sized duck that's made to look massive with camera tricks and maybe VFX
The artist makes the simple spectacular: The Longest Johns turn a studio into an aquarium and us into fishes (equipped with appropriate fish-eyes), JD's shed wall into a comedy theatre, the Tyndale monument into Mount Rushmore, a forest into a cathedral, a car into a stage, a field of flowers into an ocean, cardboard boxes into a ship, a veranda into a deck, their own studio into a galley, the sheddy into a hold, and the local harbour into cold Greenland. I love your magic, Johns!
Just finished watching the Four Hours video and read the comment of someone requesting this, what great timing
Hooray, well timed
I have become obsessed with this song over the past few weeks. It's SO much better when you know all the words and can sing along. Thank you once again, you sweet, sweet boys.
Agreed. It's one of our favourite shanties. This is a beautiful version.
It's funny, I've been listening to this song for the whole week, nonstop and now there Is I a music video!
Same happened to me when their fish in the sea music vid came out!
[Verse 1]
The Diamond is a ship me lads, for the Davis Strait we're bound
The quay it is all garnished with bonnie lasses 'round;
Captain Thompson gives the orders to sail the ocean wide
O and the sun it never sets, me lads, nor darkness dims the sky
[Chorus]
For it's cheer up me lads, let your hearts never fail
For the bonny ship, the Diamond, goes a-fishing for the whale
For it's cheer up me lads, let your hearts never fail
For the bonny ship, the Diamond, goes a-fishing for the whale
[Verse 2]
Along the quay of Peterhead, the lasses stand around
With shawls all pulled around them and their salt tears running down;
Well don't you weep, my bonny lass, though you'll be left behind
For the rose will bloom on Greenland's ice before we change our mind
[Chorus]
For it's cheer up me lads, let your hearts never fail
For the bonny ship, the Diamond, goes a-fishing for the whale
For it's cheer up me lads, let your hearts never fail
For the bonny ship, the Diamond, goes a-fishing for the whale
[Verse 3]
Here's a health to the Resolution, (HEY) likewise the Eliza Swan
Three cheers for the Battler of Montrose and the Diamond, ship of fame;
We wear the trousers of the white and jackets of the blue
When we get back to Peterhead, we'll have sweethearts anew
[Chorus]
For it's cheer up me lads, let your hearts never fail
For the bonny ship, the Diamond, goes a-fishing for the whale
For it's cheer up me lads, let your hearts never fail
For the bonny ship, the Diamond, goes a-fishing for the whale
[Verse 4]
It will be bright both day and night when Greenland lads come hame
Our ship full up with oil, me lads, and money to our name;
We'll make the cradles for to rock and the blankets for to tear
And every lass in Peterhead sing: "Hushabye, my dear"
[Chorus]
For it's cheer up me lads, let your hearts never fail
For the bonny ship, the Diamond, goes a-fishing for the whale
For it's cheer up me lads, let your hearts never fail
For the bonny ship, the Diamond, goes a-fishing for the whale
For it's cheer up me lads, let your hearts never fail
For the bonny ship, the Diamond, goes a-fishing for the whale
For it's cheer up me lads, let your hearts never fail
For the bonny ship, the Diamond, goes a-fishing for the whale
Man isn't this kinda sad?
Another one off the faves list that's been given a music video WOOT!
Hooray, working through them eventually
Favorite song of the album
It's quite the banger
I cannot tell you the elation I feel every time I'm listening to a playlist and I hear 0:01 I'm never not in the mood to listen to this song.
It's a very iconic be-dunk
Y'know, at first I didn't care for this song when I heard it on the album. I mean, I didn't hate it, but I didn't especially like it either. But the more I listened to it, the more it grew on me, and now it's definitely one of my favorites. The last verse where the instruments go silent and everyone's singing in unison gets me good, in a way that it wouldn't if the whole song were a capella like that.
The sudden acapella combined with those hard ass lyrics immediately grabs your attention
The internet: "Noooooo, you can't just play super cheerful and super depressing songs one after the other!"
The Longest Johns: "haha, "Cures What Ails Ya" go "brrr"!"
Andy's part is AMAZING in this video!
It's a goodun
@@thelongestjohns :D
Andy’s bit is my favourite!
Lush! Hope you had a pint at the Lamplighters, lads.
Always have to replay the bit at 2:38 because of how clean the harmony is
Especially the chord on "Name". I'm guessing it's a shift from minor to Major?
goosebumps!
@@beavermos absolutely love that spot to!
"Ok guys, let's all wear dark clothes for this one."
Robbie: "You're not my boss! I can do whatever I want!"
THE BIGGEST OF BANGERS
w00p! Glad you enjoyed
I love Dave up the tree with his whistle
When you get in the shower and the water is still too cold and hits your back: 1:54
I have heard uncounted parodies or filks of Bonny Ship the Diamond. But for some reason have no recollection of ever hearing the original before. Top notch guys.
Ooooh, who are the new bass(or maybe cello?) and drum players?
They play with us for live gigs, their names are Rich and Antonio
@@thelongestjohns Ah, thanks for letting me know! Great video by the way!
It’s a bass they said in their Andy and the technicolor stream coat stream that they got a new double bass player
Dave hanging out in trees is becoming a theme. 🌳 Great video, as usual!
Shout out two the two dudes in the back. Never mentioned but recognition deserved
i mean like, bonny do be shippin' the diamond tho
Indeed!
?
XD
Yesss! A music video for one of my favorite song! Now I can't wait for mody duck😏 that would be a fun one!
It'll happen...
@@thelongestjohns I'm not sure how you guys would go about visualizing that, but I know you'll find a way. Animation, mayhaps?
- Fantastic! Love your tones, they linger in the mind and soul. "We All Lift" always shakes me to the core.
My favourite song of all time gets a music video? Good day indeed.
I spend 3 whole days singing songs like this one with friends, for fun ('cause we are not really good singers lmao), and honestly, it is one of the most satisfying thing to do! You guys must really enjoy your life x)
The great thing about being a shanty singer is that if a song gets stuck in your head you just sing sing along with it
Just thinking about this today! Super excited since this is one of my favourites!
Hope you enjoyed!
@@thelongestjohns I sure did! 😊
When will you do a South Australia music video? It's my favorite, and there's no videos of you guys performing it that I can put in a playlist :C
It's not one we do very often to be fair. We'd like to work on a new arrangement for it
@@thelongestjohns Ah. ok! :)
Amazing video for one of my favourite songs. C Y A next bandstream guys.
Dave is killing it on that pennywhistle
I don’t have a witty comment, I’m just commenting so the algorithm boosts the video
Just when I finally got it out of my head, it's back to stay.
Ooh, Dave is so painfully cool here you could almost forget his massive nerdy streak 😆
Ps but we love the nerd bit too
I know already, which song I will download and hearin´ the days, when I open the door and walk into the Green
Adequate! I won’t lie, Robbie does look good with grey hair, even if it is just the selective coloring effect
I can't imagine Robbie looking bad with any hair colour tbh, he has that power
@@spacemaria_ excited for purple Robbie :D
No dude they painted the whole word gray what effect are you talking about
Adequatober 10th again! Thank you Johns!
The finest of dates! Thank you :)
You've done it again, lads :)
This song has been one of my favorites
YES BOYS. One of my absolute all time fav's. Was singing this along with my Dad today as we drove from London to Leicestershire to move me back home (a decision partly inspired by Oak & Ash & Thorn).
I am glad to see that you were able to acquire one whole drummer :)
Oh wauw I like this music soo much thx guys
After I learned the guitar part to this it's become my single favorite thing to play
Yasss this is one of my favorites
Hooray!
One of my new favorites
I recorded this song back about ‘95 shortly after I moved to Nashville. Wish I could find the tape. Due to a glitch, Davis Strait came out Faithis Strait. Sang my own harmony, played guitar in DADGAD. I like their version better.
My grandchildren loved this! Used to live in Avon.
October 10th! Awesome video guys
from just the audio alone (tho this music video is also lovely) this is the sexiest cover of this song, especially with that bass
I'm always so happy when the harmonium comes out. One of my top two instruments, along with the hurdygurdy.
Now I want the lads to do a colab with Patty.
Love the black and white attire mixed with the desaturated background. Congratulations on aquiring a rythm section! How about introducing them to us?
Cheer up my lads!!
I got to do this at karaoke night as soon as college started this year and it was amazing
I have been WAITING for this.
One of my favorite shanties, and now my new favorite way to listen to it
I love the upbeat singing in this song and I love to sing along!
I dig the color mask guys my little film brain went crazy when I saw it
This is basically one of my top favs from Cures What Ails Ya, and probably of all time.
I love you guys so much! I have so much fun listening to these songs! Keep doing what you love! I'll pour some black rum and jam to y'alls beautiful voices!
Brilliant!
Thank you! I've been waiting for this since before Health to the Company, Got No Beard, Four hours, Oak and Ash and Thorn, etc.
I was kinda secretly hoping you'd do this one, I had been listening to yous on spotify and this is one of my faves
Just Played it on guitar... Great Song! ❤️
I'm crying this is one of the first folk songs I ever heard as a boy and has remained one of my favorites ever since... this one and johnny jump up. If you guys sang that one too I'd die happy
Man, I have this on loop, and it never gets old. Lots of depth to the music, and I really like that!
I cant even express how hyped up i was when i saw this in my recommended. ive been wondering and waiting for this and i love it
The Longest Johns creates yet another amazing music video! Never heard this song before but i can already see it as a favourite
A country-esk sea shanty? This cowboy pirate is happy.
Another wonderful music video! Was also great to see Rich and Antonio added in there as well!
Sweet light strings of Arcadia. That was great
love how this sea song manages to be bluesy
absolute jam
First time I heard this song was by Gaelic Storm, and this has just made me love the song even more.
This is my favourite shanty well done John John and the other John!
I’m so glad my favorite song finally got a music videos
I always have a hard time picking a favorite song from each album, but this one is definitely up there!
i fell in loveee with this type of music... i appreciate this band
Nice to see my favourite get a music video. Cheers Johns!
I really like the colour effects here!
ooft that harmony verse 😍😍
The contrast of everything but you guys being in greyscale looks pretty damn cool.
you guys are the best
Cheer up me lads! Let your hearts never fail!
Big shout outs to the colourist and editor
It's such a beautiful tune... And you boys do it credit... Wicked nice... Love it !!!
I don't know how this thought entered my mind... but you guys should totally collab with Weird Al Yankovic.
It would be glorious
Yes please
Tnks for this :)))))
This is one of your best songs along with oak & ash & thorn, here's a health to the company, fire & flames, and ashes.
One of my favourites, nice to have a music video now :)
Yes It's out! I'm so hyped for my current favorite! 💙💙💙
I've watched this video over so many times between how much I love the song itself (JD's funky guitar riff & Dave's glorious bass voice in the background, ooh.. it's one of my all time favorite LJ's songs to listen to!
Always been one of my favourites and I love the video. knowing what happened to the diamond really makes this song hit different though
Simply glorious lads; that chorus though: exceptional 🙏🙏
Looks likes “Wellerman” has some competition.
For best video? For sure, but the songs have both been out for more than a year
Wellerman has had competition for ages now.
