Started out doing macro with a 4x5 graflex long ago. Then went to a Nikon F2. Now i do it on a sony A6000 using my old Nikkor 55mm and 105mm. Thats another option if anyone would like to start but dont have a lot of money. Those old Nikkors are very sharp and very inexpensive nowadays. Btw intro music was on point!
Can I use in camera auto stack with flash? Last time I tried this, the shot speed was too much for my flash keep firing, even with low flash power and good/quick bateries.
"A proper macro lens will cost over $1000..." REALLY? So, you haven't seen the reviews of the "Tokina ATX-i f2.8 100 mm FF macro lens", which I, and others, have purchased for only $429.00???????
@@wollertz It works well for it's users, so it's "Proper" enough I would say. No need to break the bank - and after all, you started the video with extension tubes... Thank you.
Theres many options that wont break the bank, like Extension tubes, reversing rings, Snap on rings like the one in my latest video. That doesn't make them the best quality, and If you are getting good quality form Tokina then congratulations. I will keep using what I consider to be a proper set up 🤷♂️

Hello again Charlie ! Thanks for sharing your experience with us! You just make me buy a Lume Cube lol 😆 I’m learning how to take macro photos and lately have been spending a lot of money lol but it is fun ! Love your tutorials! 🤗
I started playing around with macro photography but only with a macro lens that connects to my phone until I can start getting the proper camera and equipment.
Decades ago when I was a SCUBA instructor, I took thousands of U/W macro images with my trusty Nikonos II. Rule of thumb: each extension tube was worth 1 stop (inverse square law), and I used to stack all three tubes (needs 8x more light) and depth of field was about 2mm. I used a pair of U/W strobes (100WS each) at full power from about 5 inches. I think I may have blinded a crab or two, but it was a wonderful experience diving in Montery Bay, Hawaii, Tahiti, Caymans. Lots of excuses to travel!
Wow, I bet that was fun! I've only tried the little camera bags that let you do down about 5 feet 😅. Great experience, but sketchy. One day I hope to have a proper set up like the one you described!
@@wollertzOnce you leave the camera reservation with no auto, no light meter, etc., knowing how the accessories affect the light reaching the sensor is handy! There are better options now for U/W, but back in the 70's a Nikonos was "affordable" state of the art. The camera was safe to 200' if properly cared for. I haven't checked recently, but I'm sure there are custom housings, let alone some actual U/W cameras out there. Now just too out of shape (and old) to safely dive... :(

That will depend on your flash or strobe recycle time, Ive never tried as it is very fast and non of my lights are fast enough
@@wollertz Thanks 👍
A lot of misinformation in this video.
🤔 not exactly sure what you mean. When its all done by me and all my pics 🤷♂️

If you consider tokina a proper lens…sure let’s go with that. A proper macro for under $500…

Amazing work 👏, which flash is good for nature photography, ttl or manual. For mushrooms, insects animals, birds ?
I prefer manual mode on any flash, off camera and manual gives me more control over the situation 🤷♂
Thank you!
Thank you so much 🙏🌱🌿
