I got to see Phil on this tour in NJ on 6/25/94. The stage was set up like the roof of an urban hotel. On the right side of the stage was a vertical neon sign that spelled out H-O-T-E-L. Across the upper rear of the stage was an elevated subway train that went back and forth and there were roof vents emitting some smoke scattered all over the stage. It was incredibly realistic. Phil ended the show by entering a shack on the roof and reaching out from behind a semi-closed door to pull on a chain that shut off all of the lights on the stage. The 24 song show with two songs for the encore was impressive. One of the best concerts I've ever seen.
OMG, I've been looking for this forever. I got this tape when I saw Phil Collins live back in the 90's, and I watched it countless times, but then I lost it. I'm SO glad that I found it on RUclips. :)
I was at this tour in Milan 1994, was the first and only time i see Collins live.. what an experience!! First half of the show in "black and white" only white light and second part in full color!
Gotta say at the Genesis concerts and Phil Collins performances I've seen, the lighting was the best I'd seen like EVER, they made the shows so memorable.... Thanks lighting guys. You ARE appreciated!
I read somewhere a long time ago about Phil putting notes under the band's (Genesis) hotel room doors at night, listing things that weren't tight enough in the last performance. To see him go round with a set of notes for band members e.g Arnold missing a harmony part, was magic. Class.
Great Film ! Love the backstage and inner workings of what it takes to mount such a huge production. In the end as usual Phil does not miss any detail. That's why he is the GREAT Phil Collins ! Thanks for all your hard work and dedication ! Wonder how he feels about the music industry today what a joke, right Phil ??

I have this on DVD and yes I saw the show from this tour in Sacramento CA in Aug '94 (by myself)… I had seen Phil live 6 times prior in Brand X, Genesis and solo tours. The standout feature of this tour was the opening of the show with a dual drum solo (very fitting for a Phil Collins concert)… and the 'alley' stage set with the 'trashcan drumset' was creative. I'd never seen (the late) Ricky Lawson (from The YellowJackets) play drums before, but I had seen Nathan East on bass with Fourplay a couple of times (I was surprised to not be seeing Chester & Lee as the rhythm section). Oh my goodness. A man with a ❤ for the homeless is rare. I am just stunned as I'm praying about what can be done. It's a force like a landslide that I saw coming years ago. It finally pulled me into it. I needed to hear this today. I really really needed it. Thank you Phil Collins. Such a good man. I always knew it...now I'm absolutely positive what a truly unique fellow you are!
Great video. Thanks for posting it! I saw a similar documentary back in 1989 about Paul McCartney's band preparing for the Flowers In The Dirt tour. Similar thing: lots of excited faces with that "I can't believe I'm part of this" look, dumb jokes, lots of kidding around. But what's clear is it's got to be the most exciting, rewarding experience of any musician's life, this tour that was almost 30 years ago already.
@Flat FLSTF - I think Chester had enough of touring after the genesis we can’t dance tour and he had young kids. I think he came back with Phil from the Disney stuff onwards...
@@SPAZZOID100 Yeah, same here. The guy was a solid drummer, but he didn't have the feel that Chester Thompson does. Lawson was adequate for the Collins solo stuff, but I don't think he could have managed a Genesis tour. His style was too understated.

I have a particular fondness for the Hello I Must Be Going tour. I got to go backstage and meet Phil before "the gig" (as Phil put it) in Washington, DC. He was nice (especially to the young woman who accompanied me LOL) and I was completely star-struck and tongue-tied.
Kelly Howard My lady friend was a DJ at a small campus radio station outside Baltimore. She wanted to get Phil to record station promos. We got to the show 3-4 hours early. It was bitter cold with lots of snow on the ground. To put it diplomatically my friend was “strategically dressed” (tight v-cut sweater) for maximum effect. We saw Phil’s tour manager and she walked up to him and she asked if Phil could record some promos. He immediately said yes and told us to come to the front of the stage about 15-20 minutes before the concert was slated to start. We did that and she got the attention of a roadie, who quick as a bunny had us up on stage and walking back to Phil’s dressing room. Wish I could say I stayed cool but truth is I never said a word in his dressing room, though my friend was cool as a cucumber, complimenting him on his stage outfit and asking if he planned on making any more albums with Brand X. He recorded the promos, I awkwardly extended my hand as we went to leave. He shook it (a bit half-heartedly to be honest) and we were led back out across the stage and hopped down to the seats. Definitely a memory I’ll never forget!
@@lenr7137 (I'm still writhing with envy). I've been a major fan since when he was still with Genesis. But I've been muddling along with just albums/CDs/etc & videos for years, so I'll survive.
