much respect to you sir, I'm getting back into raising gamefowl, I have th same mindset as you. I'm not gonna fight mine just love raising em, but can't deny it is fun to watch them spar but never would tie a knife don't see the purpose in killing the birds you spend so much time and money on
👍🏼back in early 1960's I seen a corn grinder set up with a bicycle sprocket welded on that shaft. You can sit and pedal and just keep feeding the hopper. Yep If you got Young kidz grinding just make a longer funnel on top so fingers cant reach in,,a corn cob will work usually if it gets plugged up. Appreciate Your hard work. Jan.8,2023
Hi! I finally got my Old English wild game chicks. They are beautiful pure black with bright red crops. 2 roosters and 2 hens. I've had to lock the roosters up cause they were getting too much for my silky bantam hens. I let them raise 5 eggs and now I've got some black chicks and they are starting to change color now. I think 2 are getting puffy heads.😊 Thanks for all your info.👍
Thank you Do you ever give them garlic or ginger? You mention you study herbs and I am trying to improve my flocks health. Vetrx solved some issues we had, but I am working now on prevention. Any info on apple cider vinegar, brewers yeast, garlic, ginger, cayenne, or any other things people are doing would be great! I would totally appreciate a video on natural health remedies and foods. Thanks for all the great info!
Man yea. I get minced garlic and a spoon full to each chicken . I do that about twice a year. Apple cider vinegar in the water few times a year and i put about 3-4 ounces. Plantain fed to them will take care of a lot of sickness. When i have extra peppers i throw em in the pen
I see a lot of people hating but this is how I also do it and it works for me. The only difference is I wash the water bowls but other than that I raise them more freely
I change these jugs out or rinse em out about once a month but im not washing em every day. I seen one fella pour the old water out and put clean every day. Always buying medicine from rick hurst too
@@SpiritoftheOutdoors one must have a lot of free time to change their water every day. Here in Cali there water heats up so I put it in the shade and change it about once or twice a week (these are one gallon container)
The only game chickens I know about were fighting roosters which I wasn't much into. Dad raised a bunch for another fellow and we had roosters running all over the place. Came home from a trip to town and while we were gone they'd all got into a gang fight. There were dead roosters all over the place except for the one smart one. He was way up on the hillside cackling like he'd just laid an egg. I went to one cock fight in my life and didn't like it. They put sharpened metal spurs on the chickens feet and let them kill each other while they took bets on which one would win. Couple old folks had a parrot they couldn't contain. He whipped everything in the house including the old man and the woman plus every stray dog and person who came down the road. Well, they decided they'd make some money with him. They took him to a chicken fight in a cage. That parrot knew what he was about. When they put the cage down he was shaking the bars, saying, "let me at him! Let me at him!" They opened that cage and he went at that poor old roosters so fast it was just like a blur, dust and feathers so thick you couldn't see a thing. When the dust cleared that parrot had that poor old rooster on his back, had him by the throat choking the life out of him. Well, that poor old feeble rooster was just barely able to reach up and hit that parrot with one of those sharpened metal spurs. Parrot jumped back, looked at the rooster, then turned and started running. As he ran away he was screaming, "he's got a knife! He's got a knife!"
😂 ive never been to a chicken fight in my life. I have let a couple of these fight in the yard just to see which un was tougher but im not into tying knives to their feet
@@SpiritoftheOutdoors I knew that, Justin. Never figured you ever did.. But back in the 70s it was popular around here. I went to one because I'd heard and read about it. It just wasn't the type intertainment I'd want anything to do with. Some time back they outlawed it in the state and I say good riddance.
@@larryreese6146 they still sneak and do a little around here. It dont bother me that folks do it but im not interested in it. You bring your rooster over and we may see whos is tougher but well both still have a rooster when we done.
@@SpiritoftheOutdoors plus I don't particularly care about tough old roosters. Had one tried to fight you every time you went in the coup. Meanest bird I ever saw. Three days later he was still kicking me in the stomach.
so do you ever let any of your chickens out of their pens to free range? I am learning the many different ways to keep chickens, before we get any. I like the idea to let them out where our horses are to scratch around the manure and eat the bugs and larvae. Also. I have not seen any cats around your place. What do you do about the mice and rats? Our barn cat has worked wonders to take down our mouse population, which has been so destructive. He also patrols around our house and garage. Have not seen a sign of a mouse in our garage since he got big enough to hunt.
Yes i do . Not the roosters because they will kill each other even through pens if only one is out. I have a dog i have to chain when some are out because she will kill them
@@jasonlewis6926 i use topical ivermectin for worms and the apple cider vinigar i do every 3 or 4 months. I do the ivermectin once a year. That way i dont let them build an immune to either one
Yes. I found that 1 tablespoon full of corrid in chicks 1 gallon water will prevent this. I dont have trouble with it when the momma raises chicks on the ground but if i hatch and put in my brooder they will all die if i dont put this in
You will not regret it. I normally take a syringe without a needle and fill it and squirt it in the full water jug . Less may work as a dose but thats just how i do it.
It is but raw elderberry has tannins in it that need to be cooked for consumption. Im not sure how this effects a chicken but for humans it has to be cooked or you get a belly ache. Wont kill you or nothing
Yea i saw that after lol im intersted in the blk grey's like you i just like them dont fight them but i do thimk they look better with there combs and waddles cut
If a chicken gets sick don't mean he's going to die anyway shoot him up with some medicine and he's going to live I've had a bird almost down to his death doctor him right came back stronger than ever you're crazy
The birds that are more prone to illness are more rapidly removed from a bloodline without all the special treatment and you a left with a heartier line of birds.
It can be seen that everything is thought out to the smallest detail! Chickens live like in a fairy tale!

Same reason I am getting into this game, for the beauty of the animal 💪🏻
Facts! Nothing wrong with the occasional sparring of the birds. Me personally i would never add any blades to mine

Good way to save money and good looking birds
How big are the pens you keep the roosters in only?
