WOW! I remember reading about the PianoMate in F.C. Judd's "Electronics in Music" (Spearman, 1972) But, as it was the 1980s, I was already too late to see a real one... Quite fascinating.
It's certainly quite a weird synth isn't it? No wonder it didn't take off! I've never seen the article you mention, I'll have to search if anyone has uploaded it. PianoMates do come up on ebay, but asking prices are ridiculous these days. I paid £45 for the one in the video, then found another one at a market for £10! (the seller didn't have a clue what it was)
