Pretty happy with the squad outside of Phillips and Maguire. Maguire especially was always going to get picked though. JWP and Toney can count themselves really unlucky on not getting in to be honest. Phillips going having played 1 minute of PL football is a joke.
We barely have any defensive midfielders (JWP isn't a defensive minded player). Phillips has good general fitness and is fit now, he has to go as it only him and Rice. Maguire has to go for the experience and he's been there twice already. It's important to have an experienced defence

Wide forward: Maddison, saka, foden (has 10 appearances as a wf on the right, can play out wide or centrally), grealish (has 16 appearances as a wf on the left, he can play out wide or centrally), sterling (8 appearances as a stiker, 8 apps as a wf, he started of as a striker for chelsea, his best position is a wide forward). Strikers: Kane, wilson, rashford (7 appearances as a striker, he has been played as a striker for most of the season, yes I know he's not a striker and he shouldn't have gone, toney has been better).
Rashford has scored most of his goals this season coming off the left. He’s also in much better form than Sterling or Grealish. Toney is a striker not a winger so Rashford isn’t going instead of him

@Harvey Hancock would disagree about mount. He has been playing well if a little deeper than previous. Just Chelsea are missing a finisher. Good on the dead ball too. The one I debated was sterling but he is in similar form as going in to the euros so he can come good and brings experience. Same with Henderson and coady. Neither start but good for the squad and can come on.

Every Southampton fan has said he's been awful this season. Like genuinely their worst player. We've also never seen a game with a good Rice-Prowse partnership for England before, even when he was playing well so he wouldn't be trusted in the double pivot anyway. The people most outraged by Ward Prowse not being in the squad are people who don't watch him week in week out.

Dan Burn being left out is awful. He’s been a quality LB at Newcastle, 6ft7, mans a monster! Too many games are won/lost at set pieces and when you have someone his size that can jump to 9ft to attack it 9/10 it gets cleared. Feel for the man!

As a non England fan, feels to me like whoever coaches the team people will always hate. Get a beautiful playing manager and get knocked out of the group stages and you will be even more upset. As a Canadian I could never imagine having such a a stacked team so appreciate that you can even have debates like this lol
As an American, I cant decide whether to be happy that England is being mismanaged (for the group stage)… problem is I’m also an England fan and I think favoritism is the absolute worst trait in a manager, because it is not sustainable and guarantees eventual decline. At some point southgate will fail
I think the reason why there’s so much negativity with England is because it’s just soo slow and boring to watch. They play defensively but the defence makes soo many mistakes. The game against Italy he was playing saka at left wing back in a game England had to win, it makes no sense. I think Southgate picked a good squad besides maguire and Phillips, he just doesn’t know how to use them.

Defensive midfielders: Rice, bellingham (12 appearances as dm, 12 apps as a cm), phillips (has 1 appearance so far, shouldn't have gone).
Central midfielder: Henderson, gallagher (has 6 appearnces as a cm, ward-prowse has been better).
Attacking midfielder: Mount (has 15 appearances as a am).
Wide forward: Maddison, saka, foden (has 10 appearances as a wf on the right, can play out wide or centrally), grealish (has 16 appearances as a wf on the left, he can play out wide or centrally), sterling (8 appearances as a stiker, 8 apps as a wf, he started of as a striker for chelsea, his best position is a wide forward).
Strikers: Kane, wilson, rashford (7 appearances as a striker, he has been played as a striker for most of the season, yes I know he's not a striker and he shouldn't have gone, toney has been better).
But Rashford fed some kids with the governments money he needs to go!

Rashford has scored most of his goals this season coming off the left. He’s also in much better form than Sterling or Grealish. Toney is a striker not a winger so Rashford isn’t going instead of him

In Southgate's eyes, he can play both positions, despite being beyond poor at the striker position. Also, stat-padding by scoring a bunch of goals against teams most fans have never heard of on a Thursday night sums him up.
He regularly puts in average performances where he gets his head down, ignores other passing options, and spams shots. Sometimes one of them goes in and people give him the man of the match award.
Mount plays of the right tbf and if they really felt Adventurous mounts really good at CM
Fully agree expect dier… he’s had one or two bad games in a team playing badly… but dier is miles clear of Harry Maguire
