I literally cannot imagine any other conductor leading this extraordinary musical event for Notre Dame Cathedral’s reopening. Gustavo Dudamel is one of our greatest musical geniuses of the modern era. What I would’ve given to have been there!
I really hope the comments in this thread are satire. GD and BZ are by far two of the most overrated conductors today and rely on slick marketing of themselves and their images to cover up their lacking musicality. Neither are taken seriously by educated music lovers and every GD concert I’ve been to has been a major disappointment.
True. The opposite is happening in other parts of the world, 🇺🇦 🇬🇪 and at least a quarter of the Middle East and Africa. I accidentally read a news on AP 25 killed over Shia and Sunni in Pakistan, yet here we see people, choirs, from different continents, countries, kingdoms and Churches celebrating the rise of Notre Dame. What does that say to you?
We must continue to strive for beauty and grandeur despite all the ugliness. And Yes, we also must have to save others less fortunate and save this planet.

Brilliant performance at an historic moment, and beautifully edited to show off the artistry of the players and the glorious light of the cathedral at night. Chapeau!
This version of Symphony No. 3 is undeniably the BEST version available on the internet. With the iconic and authentic voice of the Largest Grand Organ of France harking again with her resurrected glory, alongside the impeccable musical performance without any forms of artificiality, it certainly beats other versions and resonates with the human soul as well. Chapeau bas, Maître Dudamel !
Dr. Olivier Latry is on of the finest organists of current times. He executes this wonderful piece with excellent precision and professionalism. The great organ of Notre Dame is one of the finest examples of French organ building.

There’s not a more powerful, triumphant, and joyous 1 min 55 sec opening than Symphony No.3. The whole movement is beautiful, but the opening moves me in truly spiritual ways. It's properly moving to see this monument restored. I was so sad when I learnt that it had been partially destroyed. This is just so full of hope and I can't wait to visit the cathedral so I can marvel at its majesty first hand.
The Grand Orgue wasn't really damaged at all. Just needed cleaning from all the smoke and the electrics had water damage. The one that was partially destroyed was the choir organ in the chancel. Unfortunately the positive organ was completely destroyed by water.
What a magnificent performance. The pace, the smoothness, it just flowed. Decadent yet bursting with energy, every instrument is alive the organ when awakened a rising beast of power. Bravo 👏
While in the Army in Germany many, many years ago, I decided to drive my little VW to Paris where i attended Easter mass at Notre Dame! What an experience i have never forgotten. I figure the awesome breath of God went through a piano and gave us the powerful and awesome sound of an organ to use for HIS glory......what an amazing piece to showcase this particular organ and the beauty of the cathedral. Breathtaking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best recording and performance of the Organ Symphony ever! I don't usually like recordings of live performances, but this was 10/10. It had great tempos everywhere, fantastic conductor and musicians and the organ itself sounded tremendous! Magnificent!
We've been blessed to have visited Notre Dame. And if you just sit there for a while as we did, there really are no good words to describe the feeling of sitting in the pews, or walking around, knowing 900 plus years of history is inside those incredible walls.
