I have done the weld a stud thing many times and its always worked for me. Being the impatient person I am , I dont wait for it to cool , I cool it rabidly, usually by spraying WD on it. I think the rapid cooling helps to crack it free.

I had the same situation, I didn’t believe it either, get it hot and push a candle into it, apparently the wax gets pulled into the grit n’ shit between the hole and the bolt. Still need to let it cool, doit it a few times…
