- I'm sure you all remember our friend Max Gomez, especially his performance of the song "Joe", which we released back a couple years ago now. ( • Max Gomez, "Joe," // G... ). This fellow, Jed Zimmerman, is the man who wrote that song, and a good friend of Max's. I got the invite from Max and Ben Yonas to visit Red River, a small ski town high up in the mountains of New Mexico, for the annual Red River Folk Festival they put on. There was a killer lineup, including this mysterious Memphis native i'd not heard of, Jed Zimmerman. You could almost tell just by looking at him, and certainly by hearing him talk, that he had that smooth, raspy crooner's voice. He wasn't easy to pin down for a recording, prone to staying up late nights having extra good times with the boys. We persisted though, and this was the result. Thanks to Esther Rose, Max Gomez and Joe Purdy (whom you can see at the end of the video, if you're perceptive) for making this happen with me, in a hotel room in the Motherlode Saloon.
Anyone looking for a down-to-Earth, DIY roots music festival, I can't recommend the Red River Folk Festival enough, and I can't wait to see the lineup next year. We've got a whole mess of other songs you'll be hearing from this weekend I was adventuring out in those magical high desert mountains.

Had a lot of my core group of childhood friends move away recently, and this song really stings for me. Makes me think of the last time we all were in that house we basically all grew up in together. In that cold little yellow kitchen, at that wooden table, laughing and crying as a bunch of dumb kids through the years. I'm glad we got to have that experience and that connection. Together we'll always be, be good 💛
