Someone asked how many books do i read at once?

- here's what i've been reading / dipping into / dumping in this past week! Lately i've been trying to read one book at a time but i've been remembering last year when i was reading about 20 things at once... and it meant that i read fewer but better whole books. It was a good sifting system!

OMG…..thank you for taking the time to answer my question! I love hearing about habits of brilliant artists, and I’ve learned so much from you. You’ve sort of opened a new world to me and it’s wonderful and fun! That was truly HILARIOUS about Jeremy’s conversation in the bookshop….I was laughing along with you. The longest book I’ve read by itself was Les Miserables, almost 1,500 pages. Sometimes I read one book at a time, and sometimes maybe 5 at a time. Another great video! ❤thank you!
Delighted to be 'in the pile'! I always have 3 books on the go minimum but at the moment it's six! Hermione Lee's Virginia Woolf, Howard's End, The Sandman and your Dr Who, plus two Beatles ones.
i remember reading the Lee book when it came out and loving it (i've lost my copy - how can i? it was HUGE!)
It's great. I've recently bought her one on Penelope Fitzgerald, which is also huge!
Thanks Paul for recommending me Mrs. Harris. I listened to to audio version her adventure in Moscow. It brang back some memories as I was born behind the Iron Curtain. Doesn't it sound a bit weird being born behind a curtain??😂 But that is my past, can't deny it. Felt right ' at home' surrounded with secret cameras and the likes.
The reader was excellent, added so much for the content.😊

Hi Paul. I used to be strictly one book at a time, but more recently I began to have three or four books on the go at once. I felt that worked well if they were very different kinds of books- two Victorian novels at once for example wouldn't work for me. More recently though I've found myself having to abandon books more frequently reading this way and I think I am going to revert back to two books on the go at once tops.
I enjoy your videos a lot. By the way, I read the Squeeze biography last year and really enjoyed it, It was interesting to hear your comments on it.
How do you feel about Foyles? I know they are sadly owned by the same guy who owns Waterstones, but I adore walking into their big store on Charing Cross Road, seeing the Welcome book lover, you are among friends sign, and just releasing a lovely sigh. I must say I’ve never had a bad experience at a UK bookshop. I always bring an extra case to carry all my purchases back home on the plane. I like the little shops and the big shops, although I never cover even half of the content in the huge Waterstones Piccadilly store. I haven’t been to Blackwell’s in person, but their free shipping to the states is a godsend! I adore book shopping in the UK. One of my very favorite things to do there. I really haven’t found the content in US bookshops as interesting.
Now, if we are talking about second hand bookshops… The few I’ve been to tend to have books stacked to the ceiling making me feel very claustrophobic. If they were set up more like regular bookshops, I’d probably enjoy shopping in them.
I tend to have one physical book on the go and one audiobook I listen to when I turn out the lights at night. I do have a bit of a pile of books I have started, found really interesting, and still put aside in favor of something else. One of these is Bernardine Evaristo’s Mr Loverman, which I hope to get back to very soon. It was a magical first chapter. I wish I could clear all the books I have started and not finished either by reading them or officially DNFing them. That would help.
Enemies to lovers was the whole thing with Three Up, Two Down.
I've always had around 5 books on the go at once, however I've found this year I'm struggling with concertration. My plan at the moment is to weedle it down to just one novel and one book of short stories.
There is a smaller and friendly Waterstones here in my town. The sellers always like to have a chat about the book you are buying etc.. There is an indie bookshop that has been popular - as a coffee hang-out - but not so much for selling books and now it is sadly closing. I can't help wondering if their policy of keeping books wrapped in plastic (so no browsing) has been a factor. I have not bought from them very much, alas. I do like to look through a book.... Question, book shop related: describe your ideal bookshop and how it might flourish for writers and readers. Thank you.
Over the past few years, I've bought most of Ben Aaronvitch's "Rivers Of London" novels from Waterstones and find that the staff are usually very enthusiastic about them!

I used to work at Waterstones part time, as l have CFS. I thought it would be my ideal job as l am a lifelong, avid reader. It’s NOT. They had no concept of my part time hours because of my illness & when Christmas came l was expected to work full time, like everyone else, despite numerous emails explaining it would make me ill again. By Christmas Eve, l had a chest infection, necessitating an inhaler and visiting the doctor. The doctor said come back immediately if you get worse, as they were worried l may contract pneumonia. This put me back years health wise & l am still recovering. Also, we were heavily encouraged to promote their monthly book choices.
We had many book events with ‘unknown’ authors and l am happy to say we always treated them very well & were pleased to buy their signed & dedicated books. I was always interested to hear their method of writing & how they ‘became’ writers. I love any kind of bookshop & just thought l would give you a little insight into being a Waterstone’s employee. Hi Paul, it's good to hear that you enjoy communicating with your audience. Have occasionally met authors who are a bit too precious to talk to readers at signings / book festivals & am always struck by the irony of that! Met Chris Difford at Greenwich book festival a few years back when he was there with his autobiography & he was an absolute delight, I'm very happy to say. My all time favourite band.
What made you decide to start this channel? It’s a real breath of fresh air amongst booktubers, it’s extremely enjoyable.
I read lots of books all at once. I have about fifteen on the go right now, all different genres - and with bookmarks. The pile of books covers all my reading tastes at any given time. The trouble is, I don't get a lot of time to read so the pile of books sits for months at a time and grows bigger and bigger 😆 I am definitely a mood reader.

This might be too big a question. I'm wondering how you ger from the idea for a story to actually writing it. To me there seems to be a big gap between having a cool idea for a story and actually laying it out.
I would like to know your opinion on censorship . D.H. Lawrence ; Hardy , Elliot to name a few . Who else ? Who are our warriors today do you think and why?. I know Margaret Atwood likes to debate this topic.
dreadful. I love Lawrence and always will. I don't believe in censorship.
