'Nehru Should've Never Made V.K. Krishna Menon the Defence Minister': Jairam Ramesh on his New Book

  • Congress Rajya Sabha MP and former minister Jairam Ramesh says former defence minister V K Krishna Menon, who was in office when India lost the 1962 war with China, was unsuited to be defence minister and Jawaharlal Nehru made a mistake appointing him. Menon demoralized and divided the army. He often gave Nehru poor and misleading advice and was a bad defence minister. He was a man possessed by demons and was possibly schizophrenic. He was insecure and craved for reassurance of his worth and value. Consequently, he frequently offered or threatened to resign and though close to Nehru also drained the former PMs patience and tolerance. Jairam Ramesh was speaking to Karan Thapar in an interview for The Wire to mark the launch of his biography of Krishna Menon.

It was almost a common knowledge in 60s that General Choudhary was reporting for The Statesman. This probably he used to set few things right in army establishment, where Gun factory , Ichhapur was being used to manufacture Coffee Perculators. and few other absurditied prevalent in army establishment.
Thanks Nehru to choose such defence minister.who was responsible for JEEP SCANDAL. Nehru in that period will spend evening with British journalist of Guardian. Their , both Nehru and Menon were busy pn other personal matters.
General Thapar was highly Incompetent guy. AND CHINESE DEBACLE OF 1962 IS PROOF.

The general previous to the war was discussed i.e. General Thimayya, the General after the 1962 war was discussed i.e. General Choudhury, however the general leading the war i.e. General PN Thapar was conveniently swept aside. Yes, his dad General PN Thapar conspired with krishna menon and wrote a letter with many allegations to his own boss General Thimayya and his peer general Thorat and also threatened them saying PM knows about all these. The debacle of 1962 War is becoz of 3 people Nehru, krishna Menon and then chief of Army father Karan Thapar General PN Thapar.
It is very funny, they deliberately avoided his name in this discussion😁

subhadeep mandal Good Generals are made not born, and in war a lot depends upon mission, resources, circumstances available to the commander and intangibles.
A best commander can be beaten and that too on a good day, if he gets complacent or make missteps that are in or out of his control.
Marshal Zhukov made a few blunders but had he been killed by Stalin there were no replacements of his caliber. General should NOT send soldiers to mindless slaughter for some notion of future glory and reject missions that are beyond the capabilities of the men under his command. Soldiers recognize that and appreciate that.
Gen Niazi’s decision to surrender was his only military sound decision. It should be appreciated as it saved lives, including lives of Indian soldiers.
Ethics of War are complicated. Different for Army and Air Force as how their styles of warfare has evolved, it impacts and extends to treatment of civilians of the enemy.
A knight in a shining armor is yet to make contact with the enemy. बाक़ी, थोड़ा खुद भी कर लें।

The conflict & the clashes leading upto it put the Chinese in an awkward position as they were viewed as the aggressors.
Mao was even berated by Khrushchev for a clash in 1959 when an Indian soldier was killed.
To show his goodwill, Mao ordered a 32km pullback and urged India to reciprocate & accept peace talks. India refused & rejected peace talks.
In a military meeting held in Oct 1962 Mao said: " ...Since Nehru sticks his head out and insists on us fighting him, for us
not to fight with him would be unfriendly - courtesy emphasises reciprocity"

RSS was just born out of d greed to sustain BRHAMIn supremacy over d masses under d disguise of Hindu nationalism...they even didn't like d indian national flag....they were bootlickers of British and always stood by their side in divide and rule policy....they opposed quit india movement! Can u believe it? And u r glorifying RSS the real assholes!

Avinash Achar. One of the Greatest blunder made by Gandhi after coming back from London, met Mohammad Jinnah in Bombay where he welcome the good news, that Winston Churchill has appointed Lord Mountbatten to transfer power to India. That very moment Jinnah tells Gandhi, "We Muslims want to form our own country called Pakistan, if not, we Muslims will declare Jihad on Indians." Gandhi informs Nehru, who was greedy for power, agreed to divide India. Gandhi been a lawyer, should have informed Nehru, let us negotiate power sharing with the Muslim League and the Congress Party In politics one has to negotiate so both parties win win.
Nehru should have said to Jinnah Bhai." You are Indian, why you want to divided your own country? Why not both Hindu and Muslim can live in peace under one Nation. But when a man is greedy for power, he never negotiate. Million Hindus killed after 1947. Indians have been suffering endless war for 72 years. Today, India has spent billions on arms. Nothing achieved. Now China has become economic power, and India is spending billion on defense. You see Avinash, how Indian politicians have fooled Indians by their greed and corruption. And the biggest joke. Gandhi goes to Gujarat to spin wheel to make cotton khadi tread. while Hindus are killed in Pakistan. That blood in on Gandhi's hand. He agreed to divide India. Better to tell the truth.
