I remember getting stuck on finding the final dungeon way back in the day. I was completely lost, so I wrote a letter to an address that was in the manual asking if there was any way I could get a hint. About a month later, I received a package from the studio/publisher. Within it was a *hand-typed* manual filled with every hint and tip imaginable. It gave actual HP/MP stats for every creature, strengths and weaknesses, locations of secret items, and full maps of every dungeon. I couldn't believe it. Bear in mind this was a time when PCs with printers wasn't a common thing. Still have a huge amount of respect for whoever typed all that out for me. I wish I still had it.
@@hungrygoriya Sadly it's long gone. I gave the guide away when my family sold the game system long ago. I doubt it still exists, but it'd be cool if someone, somewhere, still has it.
Master System kid here. I can shed some light on this. In the 80s Sega had a help and tips number that you could call for their games, and they published most of the games on the console. I think it was free aside from the long distance phone charges (otherwise my parents would not have let me call so much). You'd speak with someone who had access to internal game guides and walkthroughs. These were originally typewritten (some even had hand drawn art), then photocopied. I found that if you asked enough questions they would just offer to send you a copy of the guide. Thunderbug would have been sent one of these after writing in. I'm pretty sure I had a Miracle Warriors guide. I know my 8 year old self never would have finished Phantasy Star without the walkthrough Sega sent me and the graph paper maps that my friend's older cousin made.
Miracle Warriors was my first RPG and it started a life-long love for the genre. It's always nice to find another fan of this game. Thanks for making this video!
I wish this had been my first RPG! You're so lucky :) This was the very first Master System game I sat down to play and I was in my very late 20s at the time. I loved it and think about it often. Did you enjoy any other RPGs on the system?
I thought it was wonderful, but also very punishing. Especially at the beginning! I wasn't sure I was cut out for it just based on the fact that I couldn't consistently stay alive but it turned out okay in the end.
Surprised you found this game with the map still. I remember this game fondly. My dad got it for me and I thought it was great. Best thing on the Sega Master System's RPGs to me. But then not long after Miracle Warriors, some game called Phantasy Star released. It's been forever since I played this game so my memory of the details was nonexistent. Thanks for the nostalgia and reminder how this game could be a pain in the butt sometimes.
I found an amazing game lot of about 11 Master System games, and among them was this game with its map. I'm really grateful I found it in such nice condition! The box, cart and map are all nearly perfect. That Phantasy Star game was pretty sweet too! Miracle Warriors was my first SMS game, but Phantasy Star didn't come too far after it!
The Rush description at the start was so amazing, I would play that game! Watching all of these Master System reviews makes me want to play my Master System games again.
Similar to a lot of people commenting here, this was my first RPG. I wanted Phantasy Star, but it was sold out everywhere. I really liked this game and was convinced that most would not. I have never finished this game, but recall getting super close twice (the last time being on a jailbroken IPhone which crashed on me right before the last cave). Great review - a tip I had was to grind to get your main character to the top level before you get your second character as each successive character starts at a level below. I just recall how recall how fulfilling it was to expect a death blow from an enemy only to see that they “deftly miss.” I ended up finding Phantasy Star as a flea market years later - two awesome must plays on the Master System.
It's so cool to hear from people who played this as their entry into the genre. Thank you for sharing! I'll keep that tip in mind if I play it again soon. I'm well overdue for another playthrough.
Oh right on! What a way to get started into the genre! And thanks so much. This was one of my first reviews and I was really proud of it! Still am, honestly!
I looked outside and thought there was a fire outside, it was the sun coming up. I stayed up all night playing this game. It was my first RPG game. A memory I will never forget.
Awww that does sound like a wonderful memory to have. If you were little, I sure hope it was the weekend and that you didn't have to drag yourself to school the next day!
@@hungrygoriya I was in my 20s, I just moved into my first place. It was Thanksgiving Eve , I see this glowing orange reddish glow out my window thinking there was a fire. I had no clue I was playing that long.
It’s a little-known fact that Miracle Warriors is the true story of how Rush became famous, I’m glad you documented this important part of the band’s lore :)
I liked them both a lot! SpellCaster had a few nasty parts in it like the pyramid maze that was pretty tough, but this game has its fair share of difficulties as well. They're both nice and challenging.
Great review. You got me good with that Rush bit. I paused the video in mid description cause I was like "what?! Rush? I gotta look into this". You got me good
Given how much they look like this game's characters and how similar the stories in some of their songs are, I don't blame you for being fooled :) I laughed pretty hard when I first made that connection. Thanks for watching!
That's a great group of games there. Wonder boy 3, Lord of the sword and miracle warriors were well ahead of their time. Spellcaster was crazy immersive
Since this is one of my first scripted review videos, I think I now have review videos on all the games you mentioned here as well. What a difference a few years makes!
An interesting game (and very rare) for the nes (old nintendo system) was Blaster master :) you had to back track through zones and levels once new powerups are obtained to reach the new levels, this was YEARS ahead of its time :)
Oh yes, I know the game! I haven't played through it yet, but I know the soundtrack like the back of my hand already. It has some of the catchiest music on the NES. I'm planning to get to that one sooner than later.
It's a wonderful game! Just hilarious in many ways. The language, for example: "Thou art sourrounded". "What can I do for thee". The music is fantastic also!
So great to see you cover more of this classic! Both my wife and I played it separately in our youth, and we hold a lot of affection for this one. I feel like the obfuscated riddles (compounded by the shoddy translation) and the very grind-y nature of the game have prevented it from being included on more greatest SMS games lists, but I will forever treasure it as a personal favorite. If you think about it, how much more epic can you get than an adventure whose sole focus is to gain strength and gather items of legend in order to face the ultimate evil?
I'm very happy to hear that you enjoyed it! I wish I had played it in my youth. That's a nice thing to be able to share with your wife! You're absolutely right about the epic-ness of the story! I was honestly captivated by the game when I played through it at the end of last year, and despite having playing some of the "greats" like Phantasy Star since then, Miracle Warriors is still on my mind. I honestly find challenge in the riddles and translation that most people would draw a line at. It's sometimes more fun to try to imagine what they're getting at rather than having things handed to you. A good translation is something people really take for granted these days!
Did anyone else think that the mountains on the left and their height corresponded to something? Like the chance of encountering a harder enemy in a particular environment? The lack of information pre-google/internet gave in to so much more of a mystical and exciting gameplay where at least I filled in the gaps with my imagination.
@@hungrygoriya Oh no , the tile type dictates it absolutely, obviously ^^ But I imagined as a kid that youd get say more merchants when the mountains were low and more harder monsters when they were high. I think I was just trying to add meaning to something that was just arbitrary
Excellent review! Like I said on your other video, this is the first game I have actual memories of seeing/playing. I was 5 or 6 at the time and played this at a neighbors shortly before I got my NES. It took me many, many years to figure out what "that one first person rpg" was, and I did finally some years ago. I only picked this up a few years back finally.
I honestly loved this game so much. I was ready to give up after the first few minutes because of the difficulty of knowing which fights I could actually survive, but after I got going it was wonderful. I adore it so much and hope to revisit it. There were others that mentioned that this was their first RPG they played too, so it's great to know that so many people have memories of it. I wish I did from childhood!
@@TheGameGrinder There's no shame in having other priorities in life! And conveniently, there's also no time like the present. If you'd like to live vicariously through me instead, I've also done a full playthrough here on this channel... and I'd play it again right now if I could!
Great review. I really enjoyed watching. You touched on a lot of the games finer details. You really know your stuff. This is also one of my favorite Master System games. I was pretty young when I beat it and I did it without the Internet. I was very determined and I loved every moment.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Playing it was so much fun for me, and I was truly shocked at how much I ended up loving the game at the end of it all. I would've loved to have played this as a kid. I didn't play my first RPG until I was about 16, so I feel like I missed out!
When a system doesn’t have too many RPGs, it’s good to know the few it does are solid! This is definitely a good challenge after beating Phantasy Star. Another nostalgic favourite my friend had that we tried after beating PS 😊 at first it we didn’t like it because we wanted more of what PS had to offer, but then my friend just had to see it through to the end. Good times
It's definitely different from Phantasy Star, but still awesome nonetheless. This one will always be special to me since it was my first Master System game, but it's a solid RPG no matter which way you slice it. I'm glad you and your pal had a great time with this too!
Wow. My first RPG on my first gaming console. I never got very far. (I was 5) But I enjoyed walking around fighting the monsters and listening to the music. When I tried playing it again when I was older I managed to get the first companion and defeat the skeleton I saved the game. The next day I turned it on and found out the battery had died. 😞
Nooooooo :( Ugh the battery issues happened to me with Golden Axe Warrior. What a horrible feeling. Were you ever able to get back to it? It's a bit tough to get going near the beginning since you need a little luck on your side, but it's worth the play if you ever have the opportunity to try it again.
@@hungrygoriya My dad tried playing it one day. He knew about the battery so he was going to attempt the game in one glorious sitting. I was watching. We would pause the game to do necessary tasks. My dad was making headway. He went to the bathroom and my grandmother turned off the system.😳
I recently got the Japanese Sega Mark III version of Haja no Fuuin 100% complete in box . The map included is actually made of cloth instead of paper and also comes with a small die cast figure that is used to mark a destination on the map. Yeah we westerners kinda got jipped a bit.
Great review. It was my first real RPG as a preteen kid. Brutal game, but I had a lot of fun with it. I LOOOOVE the music. I also had the RPG/adventure Golden Axe Warrior.
What a game to start with! I loved Miracle Warriors so much. It was my first ever Master System game and I adored it despite its quirks. The music's fantastic, especially the song when you visit people for plot exposition. The ending theme's fantastic too. Golden Axe Warrior's an easy favourite on this system for me. It's got so much going for it!
The PC88 version of this game has always captured my imagination since I first saw screenshots of it, but watching playthroughs of it it seems like the visual style was the best thing about it. Well, not that many RPGs of this vintage can be said to be compelling in the modern age, and maybe I'm being a bit harsh. Systems like the Talons and the ideas behind the blacksmith and weapon degradation, xp gain and counter attack combat are all pretty strong. Still, this was a fantastic overview of the game and despite all the grinding, it actually makes me want to try and maybe undertake the quest myself some day. Also I had to immediately send this video to my friend who is both a big Rush fan and loves older games like this. I hope he gets a good laugh out of it too!
Hey thanks so much! This was pretty much my very first review and this was also my very first Master System game. It's nice to see a comment or two pop up on it! The mechanics are definitely a little rough around the edges and it's really, really hard to get going in this one, but I felt once I got moving, it wasn't too bad. Some of the bigger puzzles, especially towards the end of the game are tricky to figure out because of the translation but not impossible. And I hope your friend likes it! My husband's a huge Rush fan and that joke was totally his idea, and I thought it fit perfectly!
@@hungrygoriya I have such limited experience with Master System games as compared to the Genesis, NES and SNES that I really enjoy seeing your insights on the games from it that you've chosen to make videos of. Thanks!
I recently played through this, it took me quite a few months, I think the constant grinding and being stuck for ages kept me away a lot, but I got there! I was so confused by that 'curse black monk retainer' thing, I even went looking for black monks after seeing if anything was different with them (and yeah I eventually realised my blacksmith was gone too) now watching this video I understand what it meant! Also that scroll meant nothing to me, I think i tried to follow the instrcutions once and gave up, the only way I found all the keys and final boss was the tedious pressing button 1 on every single square of that desert till i found something, by this point I was soo determined to get it over with, i'd spent most of the end parts of the game stuck for weeks at a time! Still for its time it's quite good. great graphics and soundtrack, and I understand the tedious grinding and cryptic puzzles are nessesary as back then games were small so they had to be made artificially longer! nothing worse than shelling out $70 for a game you breeze through in a weekend.
Hopefully despite the tribulations, you enjoyed it overall. I think going in knowing what to expect makes it a much nicer experience but I appreciated the blind playthrough I had as well. I never thought I'd get out of the first few battles since it was so hard to live and also make money, but that was the biggest hurdle. Definitely a fun game, and as my first Master System game, it's near and dear to me. Thanks for the thoughtful comment.
My most loved game. I remember at Christmas I knew it was under the tree and carefully opened the wrapped present and took the PCB out of the cart shell and swapped it out with Hang On. Played the game for a week before Christmas. Christmas finally came and I was actually able to use the map.
I played this as a kid but really had no idea what I was doing. I just walked around killing things. I knew about rpgs because i played Dragon Warrior on the NES but that came with all kinds of info in the booklets. My mom got this and the master system from a pawn shop with no booklets at all. Zillion, Ghost House and Gangster Town are my favorite SMS games.
Oh wow... I can't imagine playing this one without the booklet! I also really enjoyed my time with Zillion. I haven't gotten too far in Ghost House or Gangster Town yet.
Insane difficulty in an rpg was a great feature back then. The carts couldn't hold game worlds that take 50-80 hours to explore like we have now, so grinding & difficulty spikes extended the play time greatly. In a world with no digital downloads & games just about always being full price, this was important since that game you got for your birthday might have to last you until Christmas.
@@thewindthatblows No kid wanted high concept art for their Master System for Christmas. And their parents didn't want to spend $40-$50 in 1980s money on a gift that would only last 2 days. The "games as art" debate didn't really get started until the PS1 era. Unless you were playing some PC war game or flight sim they were largely considered distractions for kids at the time.
@@philmason9653 Exactly, not a time I would go back to if games were just toys just like movies from the beginning of the silent era were just carnival showoffs. Alter Ego (a game from 1985) for the PCs though
My boyfriend took one look at the title screen and said, "You need to see this." I think we laughed at the similarity for a solid 10 minutes because it was uncanny.
Nice review! I just beat this game and I love it. (spoilers below!) First of all, I *really* like how the game's plot is "connected" to the Pandora's Box story. Don't know exactly why but I love the plot just because of this (and I also love when RPGs have female villains!). Second, I'm a huge fan of early computer RPGs (Ultima, Wizardry, Might and Magic, Ys and even the Hydlide games!) and since this game was ported from the PC-88 (and it actually seems to be much better than the original version) it was a great experience. I was able to beat the game without looking anything up online and I'm so happy about this. I only used the manual, the included map and the in-game clues. The only thing I couldn't figure out was where the "Magic Spheres" were sold but thankfully this was not required to finish the game. Since I had to walk around so much, I finished the game with over 400000 guilders and two of my characters at their maximum level. And, to be honest, I love grinding in RPGs anyway! Terarin was also really easy to beat (although I did use the "Magical Nuts" and "Staff of Earthquake") thanks to this! However, I do have one big complaint to make about the game. The clue from the "Merchant" who tells you that "Medi's town was once called Saria" is TOTALLY misleading! I've lost so many hours trying to follow Iason's path starting from Doris (since THIS is the town where you find Medi) but it turns out that "Saria" was actually Tegea (in the desert), not Doris! Why did the merchant say this then?! I was able to find the three keys only because I found the first key dungeon by myself since its location was kinda obvious (one tile of sand in the middle of the mountains...) and then I just kept pressing the "2" button in the desert until I found the other two and the final one. Only after doing this I was sure that this clue was, indeed, incorrect! It's a shame because the whole "follow Iason's footsteps" concept was great but it was ruined thanks to this... Overall, I'm really glad I finished this game! Took me about 22 hours to beat it (it could have taken less if not for the issue mentioned above...) and it's now one of my favorite Master System games! It may not be as polished as Phantasy Star or Ultima IV, but it still is just as good as these two in my opinion! Also... did anyone else notice that there's a portion of desert in the included map... which is actually NOT in the game itself? Instead, there's just water there in the game! I actually thought that there was a hidden town submerged there somehow (since one NPC says that "one town was lost") but it was not the case (it could have been a great idea though!)
It sounds like you had a wonderful time with this one... truth be told, I haven't been back to it since I played it a few years ago and I'd love to play it again knowing what I know now!
I rented this game as a kid back in the day of the video store... Remember years later grinding the main hero high, knowing Guy would join 1 level under me. There was a maximum start level though, so wasted a lot of time :( Also the first rpg game on the master system I ended, and the last boss was topless, which was a WOW.
Surprise nudity always catches me offguard too... I don't blame you! I didn't know there was a level cap to where they start at!!! That's unfortunate :( I would've been upset if that happened to me too.
Even though I had SMS, this game avoided me for a long time. When I finally found about emulator, I spend sleepless nights with ATARI,AMIGA and mostly SMS games. We played this a lot with my friend - great memories (but very tedious grinding).
The grinding was really tedious, especially with those traveller and black monk fights sprinkled in to waste your time too. At least the battle music was good company with all the fights!
Great game and the first true RPG I played in the 80's. I don't know if gamers now a days will be able to enjoy it. I couldn't put it down when I played it as a teen.
I played it for the first time last year and loved it. It quickly became one of my favourites, but I can see your point. It's often a game of patience at times, and I imagine lots of people don't have patience for the kind of quirks this game has. I would've loved it in my youth as well!
i played a bit of this once and it seemed really good but its kinda a tough one to start out with. especially when you have no idea what your doing. has some great ideas and the talking system is alot like an SMT game wish is cool in my books
I hear ya about the shaky start. I was pretty disheartened in my first playthrough when I died about 4 times in the first few minutes of the game. It does get better!
My brother still blames me for losing the map that came with the game. Got a kick out of the description of the physical game map as lackluster. He shoulda kept grinding!
Awww... sorry your map got lost in the shuffle. I tell ya though, apart from helping you get your bearings, it's not too helpful until you start filling locations in all on your own. Grinding is keyyyy in this game. It's pretty much impossible to get anywhere without it, especially for the guilders! You need sooooo much money in this one.
Hungry Goriya Right you are! I enjoyed watching this for sure. The good merchants are worth 1.5k if I recall correctly. And don’t forget the good wizards that heal your party!
When I was a little kid, I was somehow obsessed with this game. I didn't have it nor played it I just keep coming up with it on sega magazines etc. And I remember wondering why their hairs, moustaches etc. were like that. It was kind of too characteristic. When I watched this video and I heard that Rush thing, I completely believed and started googling it and I was like "Well that explains those characters! after 20 years!" then I kept watching and well it was just a joke. Lol. Let's keep wandering then.
I had this game, but never finished it as a kid. I always followed the damn scroll and ended with that monster that killed my blacksmith. I never knew what else to do. It was until I was an bigger and internet existed that I learnt that I had to do TWICE the steps of the scroll because I was "half" of quick than Iason.... I mean, how the hell would I have decipred that???? D:
Hanjs and ... Senpai? I guess this is one game where you don't want senpai to notice you. I wish Master System games got as much love from modders and romhackers as Nintendo titles, because I feel a retranslated English patch would make this game way more approachable
Agreed 100%! I think this game could definitely use a new translation. Some of the obtuseness is what made this one fun for me, but I can also appreciate others not wanting to bang their heads on the wall trying to figure out where to go and what to do.
Not really. This was an expensive game back then. I got it for Christmas '88 and I think it was $70 or $80. Around the same price as Phantasy Star, which I wanted as well but didn't get because it was too pricey for both.
This was my first intro to RPG's and it wasn't a good one ,as it was incredibly difficult and frustrating. After this encounter, it took me years to muster the guts to attempt other RPGs.
I broke the weapons and armors because of that, lucky the kings can give to you again and you can drop from the bosses although not all of them will be available
I just got myself a copy of this game and I would love to play it, but I'm finding that the white square you use to move around the map doesn't respond very well at all. Sometimes I have to press a direction on the d-pad multiple times just to move ONE square! I've tried 2 different controllers and it's the same with both. Does anyone else have this problem? It's making what looks like a pretty decent game, virtually unplayable!
Are you sure that you're not moving but it just doesn't look like you are on the little grid up top? If you look where the characters are standing on the left, is the background there changing at all? It shouldn't be that hard to move so I'm wondering if there are just many squares of the same type and you're not seeing a change in the upper corner. That's my best guess. I hope you can get everything sorted.
@@hungrygoriya Thanks for the reply! I totally understand what you're saying, so I'll give it another go at some point! If it's not what you have suggested, there is always the possibility that BOTH of my control pads are a bit fucked! Hopefully I can get round it as it looks like a good game!
What the heck?! The blacksmith can die?! I've played this game over and over again since I got it as a kid in the early 90s, but never has my blacksmith died.. Guess you learn something new each day. lol
Haha yeah, he can apparently. I don't know if the way I described is the only way he can die, but it sure wasn't fun having to go find a new friend for the final stretch! I wish so much I could've played this as a kid. I'm glad you got to experience it that way!
Hungry Goriya it is kind of weird I haven't seen this in the game since I always used to get all the characters to maximum level before finishing the game. But it's still a great game that gave me lots of memories. :-)
I honestly love it so much. Since I finished it, I think about it every so often and want to play it again. Alas, there are so many other games to play and so little time.
Hungry Goriya I agree on that. I still play it from time to time, and I enjoy it as much as ever. I used to have a big bunch of papers with instructions and maps etc for this game. They're long gone of course, but I think I found most secrets and hints and such.

Love how well you covered this game. :)
I farted
It’s a little-known fact that Miracle Warriors is the true story of how Rush became famous, I’m glad you documented this important part of the band’s lore :)
My pleasure! :)
You have the most comprehensive reviews on everything but it is very impressive how many under the radar games get the treatment
Thanks for saying so! I try to stay off the beaten path a lot of the time, though it's also nice to hit some more mainstream stuff occasionally.
Ok the thumb nail shot at the start, looks like the band spinal tap lol
It would seem they look like a lot of different bands, haha
SpellCaster and Miracle Warriors were my first games and still all time favorites.
I liked them both a lot! SpellCaster had a few nasty parts in it like the pyramid maze that was pretty tough, but this game has its fair share of difficulties as well. They're both nice and challenging.
You referenced Rush, you are now my favorite channel.
Rush is a staple in this house. It's almost a prerequisite for being Canadian.
@@hungrygoriya can I subscribe twice pls
Great review. You got me good with that Rush bit. I paused the video in mid description cause I was like "what?! Rush? I gotta look into this". You got me good
Given how much they look like this game's characters and how similar the stories in some of their songs are, I don't blame you for being fooled :) I laughed pretty hard when I first made that connection. Thanks for watching!
I was way too young to realize all of these things! I want to play it again!
I hope you have a chance to soon!
This is defo a game I want to play however, I want it with a map and that aint cheap! Maybe one day!
Good review loving these thanks ;)
My pleasure :) Thanks so much!
Yeah, the localization is pretty hilarious sometimes! I appreciate its quirks!
Awesome review. I highly enjoyed this game after watching your play throughs. Those Rush pictures were a great tough!
My better half busted out his Rush albums for me to photograph. The resemblance is really uncanny! I'm happy you enjoyed it :)
Another fantastic review! Thou Art Surrounded!
This was one of my first videos! I'm glad it still holds up :)
The music in this game is also great!!!
Absolutely! I can't get enough of it to be honest, especially that boss music.
Agreed! Sega Mastersystem had way better and more beautiful music in my opinion than the NES.
My first RPG, and replaying it now. Thanks for the thorough review, and for reminding me of all the pitfalls!
You're very welcome! Enjoy your playthrough and good luck with the senpais and hanjes!
Did anyone else think that the mountains on the left and their height corresponded to something? Like the chance of encountering a harder enemy in a particular environment? The lack of information pre-google/internet gave in to so much more of a mystical and exciting gameplay where at least I filled in the gaps with my imagination.
I feel like the tile type dictates the encounter from my experience, but that's just on what I observed. I might be wrong!
@@hungrygoriya Oh no , the tile type dictates it absolutely, obviously ^^ But I imagined as a kid that youd get say more merchants when the mountains were low and more harder monsters when they were high. I think I was just trying to add meaning to something that was just arbitrary
@@ActionableFreedom I think it's a lovely use of the imagination!
Just recently started playing this one if only to get a screencap of a SMAG!
@@hungrygoriya I really need to sit down and give this a full play-through.. I'm kind of ashamed I haven't with the significance it has with my past.
Ah - HERE’S tge Miracle Warriors review. Awesome, as always! :D
Thank you! This was one of my very first videos I ever made, and this was my first Master System experience. I loved it :D
Though their black monk is not for rent, to any man or government :D
I was like, wait a minute.. Rush?!
You totally got me.
It might as well have been, right?
Ow wow you weren't kidding. You made the Rush comment right away. It's funny that we both had that reaction to it but with different bands.
@@burntsauce9136 Maybe it's a sign :D
@@hungrygoriya That's what emulators are for. 😂
I recently got the Japanese Sega Mark III version of Haja no Fuuin 100% complete in box . The map included is actually made of cloth instead of paper and also comes with a small die cast figure that is used to mark a destination on the map. Yeah we westerners kinda got jipped a bit.
Oh wow... that sounds lovely! I'll have to search for a photo of those.
@@hungrygoriya I think Dragon Crystal is great too.
Another great review. I beat this game when I was younger. I really like it back then. Might have to play it again.
You should play it again! I am already wanting to play it again and I just finished it within the last year. I don't know how you've waited so long!
My most loved game. I remember at Christmas I knew it was under the tree and carefully opened the wrapped present and took the PCB out of the cart shell and swapped it out with Hang On. Played the game for a week before Christmas. Christmas finally came and I was actually able to use the map.
So sneaky!!! I would've never tried something like that as a kid.
@@hungrygoriya Haha. I was obsessed as a kid.
I miss these days.
So basically artificial lenght because games were not considered art but toys that needed to last instead
I can't wait to play this game (this winter). And, btw the Rush bit was classic and brilliant. :)
My boyfriend took one look at the title screen and said, "You need to see this." I think we laughed at the similarity for a solid 10 minutes because it was uncanny.
Nice review! I just beat this game and I love it. (spoilers below!)
First of all, I *really* like how the game's plot is "connected" to the Pandora's Box story.
There was a maximum start level though, so wasted a lot of time :(
Also the first rpg game on the master system I ended, and the last boss was topless, which was a WOW.
Surprise nudity always catches me offguard too... I don't blame you!
I didn't know there was a level cap to where they start at!!! That's unfortunate :( I would've been upset if that happened to me too.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer Trilogy album cover plus a new female band member.
Amaaaazing! I just looked up a photo of them, and yep! It could be them :D
Another good vid. I'm busting out the Master System right now!
Do it! Do you have Miracle Warriors? It comes highly recommended by me :D
Now I know they went through a few members early on, but there were only 3 people in Rush. RIP Neil. (Best band ever by the way 😉).
Yeah, the hair in general just reminded me of the members of Rush! They're one of my husband's favourite bands. I like them quite a bit too.
I love how you're talking about Rush at the beginning of the video and show yourself having $420 in game.
Ha! The $420 was not intentional, but here we are, haha
Have you ever played Zillion for the Master System? I think you would like it. It's very challenging and something you would enjoy.
I have! There's a review of the game tucked away somewhere on the channel here.
i played a bit of this once and it seemed really good but its kinda a tough one to start out with. especially when you have no idea what your doing. has some great ideas and the talking system is alot like an SMT game wish is cool in my books
I made my own colored map! :))) Also for all dungeons of Phantasy Star AND all the overworld of Zelda 1 as well as all dungeons.
The first RPG I ever played. I worked on it for years, but never finished it for some reason.
If I had to fathom a guess, the last sequence in the game's really tough to figure out.
I'm not sure if I'll play the game but that map got me looking around for a physical copy for D&D 👀👀
It's huge and also beautiful! I hope you can find a copy!
I still have this game and the map!
Nice! The map's beautiful!
This game is a masterpiece and the music was epic. And i can say very proud i finished. And the music go whit you for ever.
I really enjoyed the soundtrack in this one. Congratulations on getting through it!
Awesome Rush reference. Never be able to not see that now.
Glad to have you in the club, haha
Thank you for a great review.

I'm sorry to have gotten your hopes up so badly. I only wish it were true!
Why couldn't you let me continue thinking it was about RUSH!?!?!?
I mean, I still think of them as Rush if it makes you feel any better!
That mustache can defeat a dark lord with a single hit.
"Thou has failed in thy quest". LOL.
The struggle is real, it makes you into a true digital sleuth. Great game for its time and its console.
I'm pretty sure I had to look up what to do there because it was very confusing even to my adult mind. Sorry you never made it through :(
My gosh, you had me going with the RUSH story. 😅
Haha it could've totally been true. In many ways, I wanted it to be!
That PC88 Cover of this game looks way more badass than our western version.
I agree completely!
I about flipped out with that Rush reference lol because I just bought this game and didn't know what it was about
I wish so much that it was true! Good luck with the game though! It's a blast if you can get past the shaky translation!
I remember this, it was the poor mans Fantasy Star. But a damn good game.
I really loved this one! It was my first Sega Master System game and I wish I could experience it again for the first time.
Not really. This was an expensive game back then. I got it for Christmas '88 and I think it was $70 or $80. Around the same price as Phantasy Star, which I wanted as well but didn't get because it was too pricey for both.
@@malcolmborne Holy Cow!! 80 dollars must have been a fortune back then !!!
This was my first intro to RPG's and it wasn't a good one ,as it was incredibly difficult and frustrating. After this encounter, it took me years to muster the guts to attempt other RPGs.
Sorry to hear it put you off so much. I liked it a lot, but I came to it later on in life and had played some others before tackling this.
I broke the weapons and armors because of that, lucky the kings can give to you again and you can drop from the bosses although not all of them will be available
Thank goodness there's a little forgiveness in this game!
Hidden pathway sfound in this game fun?

That's awesome. It's too bad about your papers being gone. It would've been cool to revisit that at this point in life.

I'm glad you're all set! And yuck. Sorry for that. I never chew gum while recording.
Classic games.... #Memories
Lmao It is Rush!
Hello. I suscribe your channel. Like

Wow this game seems like it has a very poor localization, that certainly wouldn't stop me from playing it though lol.
Despite some of the translation issues, the story is pretty good! I think you might enjoy it. Call me crazy, but some of those kinds of things in older games have me laughing more than they frustrate me.
Ahh yah I totally agree, there are many games where I'll take the poor translation over any more current remakes!
Nice box art that's unfortunately wasted on a bad game
This one is quite rough at times, yeah. Definitely not for everyone, but I agree! The box art is wonderful!
But you are american... What do you know about SMS? Go play your Nintendon't. ;) Or maybe you are a Canadian since you mentioned Rush? I love Rush. I will forgive you since you mentioned them.
I am Canadian actually... I just got into the Master System about 6 years ago or so and I've loved most of what I've played so far. I had a Genesis and an NES growing up, so I had a mix of both worlds during that time. I wish I'd found out about the Master System sooner. Better late than never I guess.
@@hungrygoriya Yeah, you also sound more Canadian then American actually. Nice, SMS was my first console my parents bought me back in 88'. Underrated console. Nes games always looked unappealing and pale to me. Sms games are so colorful. Yeah, better late than never.
Rush 😂😂
1:00 bOOba 😊
Great review!! Just curious who the ignorant fool disliked it. I’m sure just to be an ass smh....
