MINDANAO Travel Vlog | A Sacrifice to the Spirits 😥 | Talaandig Tribe

- This Mindanao road trip has been amazing. In this Philippines travel vlog, myself and the rest of the fighter boys end up in Bukidnon after having visited Davao City.
We meet the Talaandig. A tribe in north central Mindano known for their soil paintings, music, dance, and their history as the peace keepers of the island.
The Talaandig have a very elaborate initiation ceremonies in which all new visitors must participate. Tabacco and Betelnut is chewed, prayers are said, and a chicken is sacrificed. This is to please their ancestor's spirits before guests enter and potentially "eat their food, and walk on their heads". Datu, the tribe leader guided us through this ceremony when we first arrived.
As a foreigner in the Philippines, this was an amazing experience for me. The best moments are the ones that challenge you, and this adventure was full of music, food, and pushing my boundaries. I couldn't help keep this travel vlog under 20 minutes. Too much Filipino love and good vibes. I hope you enjoy!

✯ Experiences over Possessions ✯
What do you think...
Would you participate in the welcoming tradition to visit? 😮
Check out my Daily Stories: instagram.com/fearlessandfar/
Fearless & Far super bro 👌👌
You would jump in?
No thx!
Fearless & Far I don `t believe bro
Of course! Experiences over possessions, right?
I love listening to Datu talk... So great we all had this experience together :)
Ah man me too. Sitting here and listening to the interviews again was beautiful. I had to keep cutting it down because I had put in too much talking 🤣
Mike the talking is good, educational
He speaks English very well for a native/tribal people like him.
Kyle Jennermann Me too. Especially that Datu talked in English so well. So impressing! And their dresses too. Very much interesting!
Hey dude im a new viwer of you guys and i just want to ask from were are you in the Philippines cause you are good in speaking in our language
That was one hell of an experience... Definitely have eaten a lot less animals since this hahah 😖
you look so frikkin scared bret, it was kinda funny.
Still okay with killing plants?
If given the choice, would you rather eat DURIAN then? Hahaha!!!
we eat and sacrifice animals that the way it should be, NOT HUMAN SACRICE as the vatican does....anyway guys you are in the LAND of CREATION OPHIR which
is now modern day Philippines....
@@zambo1511 I guess like he just won’t eat at all? Whats ur point here loo
The longer your vlogs, the better, I say! I've been interested in learning about different people around the world who resist globalization ever since I was a kid, so I found this whole video fascinating. I'd been looking forward to seeing more of this ceremony in particular after seeing bits of it on the other Fighter Boys' channels. Obviously, some people might be put off by the sacrifice of the chicken, but I found the bits you showed and Datu's explanation of what the different parts of the chicken represent quite powerful and beautiful. Loved watching you guys freestyle and sing and dance. I love the sound of the different instruments. That looked like a ridiculous amount of fun! Awesome to see the ceremony and the jam session from your perspective! It honestly blows my mind that your videos continue to get better and better, even after you've set such a high bar for yourself with previous vlogs. Definitely gonna share this one with everyone I know. Loved every moment of it.
Thanks so much man! I had to use all Bret's footage from the jam session because I was too busy singing, haha. I also really loved what he said about the different parts. At the time I was stressing a bit because the rain was SO LOUD. It seemed to all work out in the end though!
I kinda think the rain added something special to the video! Given what you and Datu were talking about while it was raining, the addition of the rain felt very spiritual, in a way. That probably sounds strange, but that's what I was thinking when I watched that part. It worked very well!

I like asian girls.
"Would you participate in the welcoming tradition to visit?"
I guess, it is rightful to do so. It's all about RESPECT. We may not be so accustomed to their culture, but remember we are only visitors and we have to pay respect to their culture/tradition.
By the way, that music played by the artist is really beautiful.
20mins? Not complaining! It never felt that long as it is very entertaining and informative. Thanks for the videos Mike.
This is what I love about your vlogs it’s very informative.
Cause learning is da bommmmb
Talaandig tribe sure knows what a good music sound is wow.
Words cannot explain how wonderful this video is as I am left speechless. Simply amazing. I am mesmerized at what you bring to RUclips and how it leaves me feeling. I enjoy the beautiful scenery but enjoy more your interaction with the people. Thank you all the way from southeast Kansas!
You did it! 2 vlogs in a week! This is like watching a documentary. But entertaining. And it’s Free! Thanks Mike! Fearless FamForever!
Already almost done the next one 😈Soup 5 😆
Fearless & Far you’re flying! Must be the wings of the chicken!
Im looking forward to that too...hahahahaa
Fearless & Far we will wait for that
Fearless & Far so there’s going to be a disclaimer/warning again on the soup vlog?😜
My son will get to grow up knowing that there are those out there like you and your family who truly still embody the values of our forefathers, whoever they may be. Thank you for your journey, it takes a colossus to bring the heart back to the world.
I am really glad you enjoyed Mindanao. I am an American and it is my favorite part of the Philippines. The scene in the morning when you wake up and look out at this amazing place, is what keeps me coming back, again and again..
I appreciate you documenting your journey through this beautiful island, so people can see the beauty that is Mindanao..
Salamat po
I really appreciate your respect and courtesy in listening the rituals of this Tribe.
Thank you for sharing to us.
Longlive Mikee!
Hahaha thank you Kristin. So much to learn in that country.
So well done Mike!
This indeed true wisdom of the elderly and gave homage to them...they knows what is happenning... that strangers doesn't...the unseen entities ... are sometimes dangerous... good you have the knowledge on how to protect and aware of all your surroundings...
I can't get over with the music played when the rain has poured down...
THIS CHANNEL DESERVES 1 MILLION PLUS SUBSCRIBERS!!!
nice information about Talaandig tribe learning their culture and traditions..thanks for this Mike and rest of #fighterboys & #CDOboys
You need to visit them!
Used to watch concerts and shows from our lumads and lumads inspired music in Dabaw. Beautiful. Great job Mik-Mik.
I never get tired watching your video ...was watching this 5 times already and I loving it.
Oh mik mik. You really captured that music and showed the melancholic characteristic of it. It is somewhat haunting, sad...but it has moments of hope. Grabe. I first heard it from Kyles vlog and I have always listened to it in repeat. It was even better that you used the music as an overlay to the ritual because it really felt as if it really came from the heart. Thanks dude for highlighting something I wanted to explore more about this part of the fighterboys trip and the talaandig tribe. Great piece of work documenting this very special part of your journey, I can taste, feel, hear and experience it...even in my own bedroom. Kudos! We really hope to see you back here in Mindanao, or someplace else in the Philippines. The fighterboys have gotten a real following not just from me, but from my friends...neighbors and my family.
Yeah! You hit it. I was also kept on going back in that video towards the end, and the strings hit my emotion. Sound melancholic but so serene and spiritual for me.
Ingat kayo lagi where ever you go. Be assured that you have Filipino family to welcome you back anytime. Much love, God bless 🙏
Mike, a powerful message in this video. "We are alike and our beginnings are often similar in that people are born to three basic needs. 1- air to breathe life 2- food sharing is instinctive to know not to waste is factual. By knowing what each part we eat does for survival. So we learn instincts to grow and breathe the air to live and 3- shelter to live and eat in so as not to waste. So we are back to air and the cycle repeats. Really nice piece of art you have made hear. Imagine 50 years from now in the future. You watching what you have achieved in life. Watching Yourself living off the land and making friends among different lands. These things are truly spectacular. Thanks for sharing. #ExperiencesOverPossessions
Mike Lamprecht well said. ☺
The datu is very articulate.
San Miguel got everybody in a perfect jam session. :)
Wooow another beautiful video Mike! And that acustic music wow just wow..
I knowww it's incredible. Gave me goosebumps editing
I hear you! And Incredible instruments, i've never seen anything like it😯
Thanks again bro, already looking foward to the next 🤟🤙
Sad to see the fighter boys end their journey (for now). Y’all have done such a great job of showcasing the good in such a tumultuous part of the Philippines. The culture is so rich in mindanao and so underrated and under appreciated. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, this was the last big one. I'm thinking I might do a blooper video... I have a lot of odds and ends left that are pretty funny. Kulas and I do an extra adventure after this to Basilan. Those vlogs will be great as well.
Fearless & Far oooh! A blooper reel oughta be good!
Saw Kulas’video on Basilan. Looking forward to see your version.
I usually just go to Brett’s page for the “bloopers” haha
Hahaha he's a living blooper. I love that guy so much.
That ending music tho. Very relaxing. 🙌🏼 👏🏼 #experiencesoverpossessions
The song is called "River Clouds"... Which i think is perfect.
The little girl catching the termite alates is just adorable 😁😁😁
That's another place you have been to that I don't think I would ever want to leave. You make me want to do this more and more
Amazing content as always... #NotificationSquad 😂😂
Cheers man! Thanks for being here first!
Fearless & Far You are always welcome 😂😂
Great music created by great people. 💓
I love this MIke, #FearlessandFar, you are the only one who captured the essence and the beauty of this experience... You immersed with the culture and showed it to the world... Looking and watching all your videos and learning a lot from them...
Wooww... They answer he's prayer.. It means he really committed to all he's prayers for protection and blessing.. Tnx for visiting the talaandig tribe Mike😊
similar traditions in our place Cordillera sacrificing chicken and pigs...another informative and fun video thanks.😊
Thanks Verney, What are the sacrifices up there for?
rituals for welcoming, healing, thanks offering cause we believe also in existence of spirit(ancestral).😊
Verney Bacdayan agreed!! nice to see how our cordilleran (up north) culture is very much parallel to mindanao culture (down south) two very different directions yet one belief especially on animism proving that no matter how diverse the philippines is in terms of language and beliefs there is still one blood running in our veins. this would be an interesting thesis like how one cordilleran scholar studied the similarities of cordilleran culture to that of the native americans...
Fearless & Far you have been to sagada and kalinga which is a part of the cordillera so im sure you have noticed some of these rituals or maybe not... 😯😀
Mike, as a native of Bukidnon, I have to say this video of one of our tribes is inspiring! I cannot think of a local media that has done an in depth feature of the Bukidnon tribes. Amazing work, Mike! Keep em coming 😁 saw you at Malaybalay, by the way. I was too shy to go and say hi to you haha!

thats a beautiful sounding instrument ( boat something)!
Oh my god these people where amazing. All these talented humans. The music was breathtaking. Thank you for taking us with you. 😍
The significance of every scene in the videos you take, makes it very special to watch, like how me a Filipina never really know each and every wonderful culture my country have. It's like weaving a story with intricate details yet it is not boring but exhilarating. Musical instruments I never knew existed nor a master who makes such beautiful music. Your videos could be good for children to watch, for them to value and appreciate our culture. Thank you, Funny and Fearless Fighterboys!
Love Hearing Tribal musics...
Such a master craftsman in creating videos that pierce the heart, transport you to places unknown and experience kaleidoscope of emotions and make you wish it will run for an hour or more, you don’t want it to end .
Youre making me feel very foreign on my own homeland. Ive been to quite few countries but i rarely explore the Philippines. Your videos make me wanna see it for myself. And experience it firsthand. Thanks! Your a great influencer Mike!
Tatay means Father... we call every elder as Tatay (Tay) and Nanay (Mother) cos in our country everyone is family.
Loooove the music at the end
Haha! I loved it when you guys just let loose and sang random songs, made me wanna hang out and jam too
i put 1000 thumbs up here....
It’s amazing each video of the fighter boys in this ceremony has different perspective. Reflects each personality.
Coffee is very good. Waking up from my bedroom window seeing the kitanlad mountain.
Yesss it was. I was addicted
Talaandig music is amazing... So much soul in it..
I was there in 1962, things were really different. We were in the jungles and remained there as part of a U.S.Marine war game. The mountain men wore lion cloths and we had to carry 45 pistols for our own safety. The locals built their homes on stilts and the houses were made of bamboo. An old man taught this 17 year old Marine a phrase that I remember and found true all my 79 years. ‘ In every forest there are snakes’ referring to the bad people in every culture and be always aware of your surroundings. That way you will not lose your new iphone
This is so awesome, MikMik! I am appreciating this very much. And, yes! I would not hesitate to participate in a tribe's tradition. This is a rare footage of a Talaandig welcome ceremony. The fun jamming and the unique sound of the katyapi or lute lessens the intense feeling of the welcoming ritual. The FighterBoys are keeping the tradition alive. Well done, MikMik, and thank you!
been waiting for your version of the talaandig tribe...
It was a long time to edit, but I think it was worth it!
Fearless & Far worth the wait...😘
