Man ephedrine was liget legal methamphetamine back then. The late 90s and early 2000s we would but pharmaceutical grade ephedrine and caffeine and make our own Ripped Fuel LOL. Amazingly we never had heart attacks or strokes. All was available at vitamin shops GNCs anywhere supplements were sold.
My father was a physician, and spent his whole life talking about sleep deprivation as an intern. Years later, he’d get calls all night long about patients in the hospital. He did hallucinate while he was an intern, and his office hours were 9am-9pm. He was a master of the quick nap.
Too bad y’all never deployed together those stories would have been all-world epic!! Great little insight into your friendship tho. Really enjoyed the format and as always the content cheers
I had a couple of brutal 6 month rotations during my surgery residency where we were very sleep deprived. I almost nodded off during a procedure on a few occasions. My memories are very scrambled of alot of those nights. Thankfully they are starting to curb the workhours for most medical trainees to 80hrs a week or less nowadays.
I have always been curious, how do snipers sleep? Like do they sleep at their positions behind the gun and scope? Or do they move to a concealed area and sleep nearby where they observe? Do they not sleep in the field? Always wondered how a 2 man team would pull that off.
During elections in early 05, we had been patrolling nonstop for 3 days, well we pulled into one of our IP police stations and my driver drove into this IP Hilux with the driver door open and ripped the door off. All of us in the truck sleep drunk wondering what happened: what are you doing Him: I didn’t see it Us: how did you not see the white and blue truck Him: honestly? I don’t remember how we made it here.
A culture of macho leads to more bad decisions than most people realize. Great to hear these two experienced operators talking about the need for adequate self-administration

The code of the grunt. Never stand when you can sit, never sit when you can lay down, never lay down when you can sleep.
