You won't believe that my college has almost every instrument but almost 60% instruments are undermaintained. The instruments which are being maintained are only for the showoff to the education commitee which comes to check college facilities and instruments.

Oscilloscope is used to watch waveform (voltage vs time graph) of signal in real time. Like you can see the signal coming to your TV/set top box (like any signal). It plots graph like we draw sine wave. We can also measure time period of waveform or in new digital ones, frequency contents (Fourier transform) of the signal can also be seen. Also ISI (Intersymbol interference) in digital communication can also be analysed.
