Dempsey’ s little volume on boxing covered the straight punch too. Great instruction. Thank you.

I get a case of the ass watching Mr. Williams not turning over his hands at the end of the punch, still everything hes putting out is very true. I enjoyed watching him in his katana videos, seeing this makes my respect for him everymore. A true martial artists.

What would be a recommended bag weight or by what measure do you determine an appropriate bag weight?

I just purchased a leather bag, I prefer leather. My bag weight is 50 lbs. 60 is okay however I prefer a bag that moves a lot as it means that I need to move a lot. I was watching a documentary on Sugar Ray Robinson a couple of weeks ago and noticed that he was also hitting a bag that looked like 50lbs. I will look to do some more videos in the coming weeks. The venue will be my garage.

About the 190 pound bag he said the bag should be 50 or 60 pounds but would a heavier bag more Resistance doest that increase punching power

Several problems when the bag is too heavy. One is that people start to push their punches. Another is that it is very difficult to follow through on your punches because the bag is so heavy. A good opponent is going to be moving and you have to be able to move and punch as he moves. Thinking that you can stand in one place to load up on your punches only works when you have an immobile opponent. Developing your footwork as you are constantly moving is a critical skill.

@@SystemOfStrategy ok but learning to constantly move your ahpuldny have anything to to with the bag just punch and keep moving thats how my training er told me to do it and he was a gold glove international golden glove winner

@@levarwilkuams6342 Your opponent isn't stationary. He is moving in an out, side to side, etc. moving around a stationary object doesn't give you that. Look at some old videos of Sugar Ray Robinson doing bag work. As i explained you need to hit the bag while it is moving away from you, catch it while it is coming into you, punch while you are moving away from it. Movement is the key and most important aspect of boxing, or for that matter most any engagement.

@@SystemOfStrategy ok but just cause the bag doesn't move that much doesn't mean you can't move just punch as if the bag was 50 pound and every time you hit it it swings that doesn't stop your footwork

Yeah when u put ur hands on ur face its not necessarily wrong but you've conceded your initiative basically and forced to be one step behind for that moment. Canelo uses it very effectively.

You can get away with it at times in boxing however when the opponents options are not limited by the rules of sport the situation changes.

A classic case in point for moving your head as you punch. This is something you have to practice all of the time. A champion just lost his title because he did not move his head when he punched and a challenger just became champion because he did.
