Just wanted to add my 10 cents. First thing lateral speed is first priority and accuracy and power is second like was discussed in this video. I wanted to bring up another way to help your lateral speed and it will help your accuracy at the same time. When you shoot a pull shot you should have the ball under the rod or a slight bit back of this position when set up. While pulling the ball you want the ball to move backwards so when you strike the ball on the face of the man you can correct the inertia of the pull motion by pushing against the shot. Getting to the lateral motion, I have found that focusing on kicking the ball backwards to the spot you want to strike it makes my lateral speed much faster and more accurate than if I'm trying to pull the ball really fast.
WOW, what a great question! One thing I used to do on tour was move the rubbers on the rod to the wall and take a practice strokes.(no ball involved) I'd do this several times. The extra drag as the rubber had to move back into place had a similar effect like adding a weight to your baseball bat during practice swings. Then when you are up to bat it feels much lighter, thus faster. Try to understand "fast" is relative since the clock starts when you see me move. If I jerk the rod you will react faster than if I deliver a smooth take-off. When I'm shooting with a smooth take-off I'll be in the hole before you realize I've moved at all. So the "speed" of your shot is relative to your take-off divided by the square root of how many beers you have drank :P
I played a lot as a teen. Havent played much in the last 20 years. Maybe 10 times. I’m finally at the age were I can buy a nice table and have a shop where to put it. I’ve really enjoy your videos and will use them to get better. Thank you.
