I built an RX2 4-Door in 1978 that BLEW EVERY local challenger away; Z28 to 914-6, in the East Bay car scene, there was nothing like it. 510's were all the rage, and my Brother owned several, but NONE could keep up with my little fire-breathing dragon, that I welded and bent my own headers for on Racing Beat Flanges, welded the back doors shut, removed the seat, built a roll bar for, and after I took the Thermal Reactor off, and re-jetted the carb. It was pretty untouchable to 135 or so and would tach 13k at shifts, blowing a two-foot flame out the rear. I lowered it, added spacers, to the wheels, and molded 510 flares on it with rivets and a heat-gun, painted it bright orange with a two-foot wide yellow stripe down the middle, It was well-known as an untouchable car way, way before "tuners" appeared en mass.
914's are turds lol but i know what you mean, this local guy from around me had a 1st gen rx7 that was all built up done by himself running a 750cc carb with 2 stroke oil metering. it was stupid fuckin fast. he was from puerto rico where they love rotaries
If you look at the scans, the actual machining was +-1-2 ° off on each lobe so it’s not the machine that was the issue. It’s the relative tolerances between each lobe. So if all the lobes were off by +-1°, the relative tolerance between the first and last lobe would be +-4°. So because the tolerances stack on each other its very difficult to minimize the difference between them, and easier to just adjust for this on the running as they say in the vid.
Very informative and the attention to detail is amazing. But of a surprise on our kiwi brothers e shaft was out that much have you told them or the manufacturer?
I thought the same too....lol but if THIS is the only known failed eShaft from a ppre 26b build, then thats def a 1st for them. Abit silly that they didn't hv you guys send the item back and have it replaced ASAP. Makes them kinda look bad for business
Hi, can't get enough of Chip,s vid. Good luck with your 4 rotor rebuild. Are you aware of any other 4 rotor eccentric shaft that has different eccentric positions, other than all at 90 degrees ? I seem to remember talk of this on the net. Apparently they don,t have the right sound !
Great tech, i was in high school when the rx 6 came out and made corvettes look slow. The rx 6 had a reputation of eating it self. Stronger better parts in the new motors. Nice work and videos. thanks for sharing
You wouldn´t be able to assemble the engine if it was one piece. With this 3-piece design, you assemble the two inner rotors first, and then the outer ones.
Nice! I love rotarys and the RX family of cars. Four rotor FD's are god level awesome! Looks like PPRE slipped on some details, shame... but looks like you're heading in a corrected direction now! 😁👍

Adding nitrous to the mix aswell ! Someone likes to partaaaayyyy 😂 for those that missed the hint at the end 😉 i dont miss nothing, great job guys looking fwd to seeing it perform this time around 👍 best of luck
Is there no definitive reason for the lobe offsets not being 90° because even with a 2 piece shaft 5° is a lot, as is the keyway being 0.4mm out... with the length of the ecentric shaft of a 4 rotor is there 'twist' under load perhaps explaining the fact they arent 90° to one another? Was the difference in angles consistently skewed from one end of the shaft to the back the same way? Be very surprised to hear they werent 90° because of inaccuracys in machining, especially if they were drawn in autocad and run on a 5 axis

Thats fucked up man. Good on you for spreading priceless information about the scanning idea, and exposing an either faulty product, or one manufactured via tremendous ignorance. Nobody should have to redo a brand new crank shaft. Not many 26B builds in the world. So information and know how is crucial for the rotary building community. Thanks

cobratoxic not just that. I run a 3 axis and . 5 axis mill, as well as a 5 axis lathe. 5 degrees is a really big tolerence. If it was 1-2 I would understand because not all machines are totally accurate. 5 is too much

Unfortunately for you Americans you don't have the same ingenuity that us new Zealanders have why spend big$ blueprint shaft when it can be compensated by the computer for free

someone needs to send this to PPRE
I just cant understand how PPRE got this all wrong????....like...how did every other big budget build come out awesome yet this one wasnt so?....
1:57 wtf did they do to the front of that poor FD?
Interesting about the machining differences n tolerances you picked up on
Crazy what PPRE sent was 'a job well done' to them. Hopefully chip or someone can start manufacturing the eccentric shafts.
Bernie Mac if chip makes it will probably cost 100k, he thinks he makes gold bars.....and invented the wheel.
PPRE in New Zealand?
