Ben been loving the content on this car, thank you so much for all the hard work. I can't believe a Focus RS like this, which has so many faults, issues, and rust, is still about right on the money at 14 and a half grand. The Ford tax is ridiculous mate. Older M135i's are now available for this money, and will still be mint and completely rust free, with no faults, be much better quality interior, and be newer AND faster !
@@EVILGT They are a good quality car, this one is just a crap example. Chassis and drivetrain is really sturdy and engine bulletproof when looked after. Ten year old Golf R's, german premium hatches etc. will all have had one or two engine rebuilds at this stage or failed dual clutch boxes etc., but these are really low maintenace cars compared to how special they are.
Glad your sorting out the rear sub frame too as I didn't like seeing the rust on it. The car is going to be transformed once the underside chassis and subframes have been sprayed not forgetting the car should handle sweet too!
The wheel arches may have been your finest moment. For a guy who claims not to have known much, you're picking a lot up very quickly. The RS will be stunning. Everyone needs a mate like Ash. The GTE looks incredible
I had a ultimate green one, had 20k miles and sold it 5 years later, bought a house wish I had just moved into the car :) I undersealed it before the rust and the guy at pumaspeed said it was one of the cleanest RS's he had seen.
12:13 did you get underbody GTE envy lol 16:11 that should only make the rear or front of the wheel stick out more not all of it, check the hubs are correct and someone hasn’t fitted a normal focus or st one if it’s been crashed the step out from the suspension leg may be longer or shorter. Just a thought
think its called a P1 platform and volvo ford and mazda use a load of interchangeable parts, you'll probably find that sub frame on a s40 . The T5 engine is notorious for the turbo coming away from the head and headbolts falling out the turbo mount and also the top engine mount falling to pieces on the left hand side
You can buy non ford front anti roll bar ball joints for the RS. They are about 20 quid each. Loads of people on the owners club have used them with no issues. I have 2 here i bought months ago but never got round fitting them as i had the same problem as you trying to undo the nuts, plus you need a press to get them out of the knuckle.
To centralise steering….turn full left lock, count turns to full right lock. Half that number, turn left half lock. Remove steering wheel and refit straight. Set tracking straight. Easy
It’s like watching Yorkshire car restoration, the amateur version 😂 it’s going to be nice seeing the RS back on the road. It will definitely be worth it because the car deserves it. 👍 Jesus, that GTE is special ❤ great video can’t wait to see the next one ✌️❤️
I doubt the track rod end lengths are the issue.... if the wheels were tracked straight.... thats why one is longer than the other... to compensate for the wheel/ hub offset. Looking forward to seeing the underbody restored! Who doesn't love an underbody resto!
@@EVILGT I don't think it's got the wrong ones... I'm just thinking logically... if its tracked straight... but the wheel is sitting further out one side than the other ... the one track rod end will be longer than the other in its adjustment to compensate for the wheel sitting out further. If the track rod ends were adjusted to the same length... then one wheel would sit straight, the other would be out... but it wouldn't make any difference to the wheel hub sitting further out one side than the other. Not sure if that makes sense? 🤔 If the steering rack does NOT bolt to the subframe... then I'd guess the subframe was off centre and twisted... hence steering more one way than the other.

Having worked on several mk2 RS's, and as an owner of one, here is a few points: 1) This is clearly not a well cared for example. These are not this rusty usually, and i have seen several over 200.000km driven examples that have been driven year round over here in our Finnish salt baths for roads. The rust on mk2's is usually just superficial on the larger suspension components and floor. 2) The shorter inner tie rod end is a standard Focus part, that's why its shorter. RS has its own inner rod ends to compensate for the wider track - only availible from Ford and much more expensive than the standard Focus part. Most likely the ex owner has just done a hack job and replaced it with a basic part. 3) The front rollbar links should be fastened with a big tapered nut that covers the whole thread when tightened on - those nuts are not correct and the reason why the threads have rusted out. 4) These are actually super solid and dependable cars for such a special model. Chassis and running gear are super solid and gearbox and engine are bulletproof if serviced and not abused. Most ten year old Golf R's, GTi's or German premium hatches will have had major engine work or full rebuilds done by the time they are 10 years old or 150.000+ km, but these run on forever if looked after.
