Whitty knows he is corrupted, so he looks sad, but the corruption makes him smile, so he looks sad and happy at the same time

The only problem I have, from a storytelling perspective, is Whitty should have been struggling to break out of corruption until the final note.
When he's fully free, it makes little sense why they'd still be singing with an almost _intent to kill._ It would have been cool to see him go though stages of corruption, up AND down. Half the body,almost none, back half up, nothing but the eye, almost clean, completely corrupt, break out from the eye, back to fully corrupt, back to halfway.
Just shifting, constantly near those final notes like he's tearing it off but it's still growing back, but its starting to grow back slower every second.
