  • In this documentary, street musician Gerry Van King (a.k.a. the King of 6th Street) presents some of his experiences with the Austin police department and the City of Austin related to him being cited and arrested for performing without a permit. King assembles here a selection of news stories, addresses to city council (including his own) and other various video clips, to tell his story.
In November of 2002, King was cited by APD while playing his bass guitar in front of Jazz Louisiana Kitchen (now BBG's) on 6th street in Austin, Texas, something he had been doing for over a decade. In February 2003, King was arrested while performing in the same spot.
The Austin Chronicle covered King's story at the time:
    Dancing About Architecture
Things get so bad in the Live Music Capital of the World that they're citing the 'King of Sixth Street,' Gerry Van King, for busking on the street

Just wanted to watch because the title caught my attention. Was thrown off when I realized were still haggling with Austin Police 20 years later about independent police oversight. Why are they so resistant to this idea, and how much longer will austinites have to demand proper police oversight.
