First review of yours I’ve watched and I’m impressed. Thanks for going in detail on the ride characteristics, and comparing to the Boston. As someone who prefers a slightly firmer ride than a lot of max cushion shoes offer this looks like a great option.
You managed to really bite into that outsole. I've had multiple Puma shoes at 500+ miles and never been close to that wear. The outsole is ridiculously good!
Sounds like a great shoe and your 100 mile test, using it for all your runs, is a couple of levels up from what most shoe reviewers are doing. Kudos! Question: with your commitment to high mileage this block, what are your strategies to avoid overtraining?
thanks galen! my personal rule for high mileage is quantity over quality - so i am very strategic about how and when i do workouts. right now i am only doing 1 workout most weeks, 2 max. for the rest of my runs 80+ miles a week i'm running anywhere between 7:45 and 8:30 per mile - nice and relaxed so i don't stress the body. when i'm not running, the name of the game for me is recovery. constant food, water electrolytes. i make sure i'm getting enough calories (usually 3500+ a day) as i've found that underfueling is my biggest threat. sleep has been mixed recently but i aim for at least 7 and try not to go two nights in a row with less than 6
I love the DN2 so much that I’m scared to try another Puma shoe! I don’t want to dislike it. I know the DN2 has a plate but I can’t really tell compared to the more aggressive super shoes.
I think you’ll love having the V3 and the D2 in your rotation! I’ll use the D2 for track workouts abs shirt races and the V3 for long runs with workouts and strides and also easy runs. I also race trail and long distances in it. The V3 updates are amazing. I like the freedom of no rocker and no plates, natural yet cushioned.
@@laurainthehaute918 Thanks! I tried it on and didn’t think it was soft enough but I’ve seen reviews saying it breaks in after a while. I’ll probably get a pair when they go on sale. I appreciate your advice!
Love your videos man! I am new to running and wanted to have a great first daily trainer. And this is one of the shoes I wanted to buy! What else can you recommend? Looking towards Pegasus 41, Adizero SL 2, and these Velocity Nitro 3. What are else can be a first running shoe?
thank you! and the peg 41 and SL 2 will both likely be great options for a first daily trainer once they come out later this year. the velocity nitro 3 is a bit firmer than i'd recommend for a first daily trainer. another option i'd suggest is the nike vomero 17 - super durable, comfortable and protective while still having a grounded, flexible feel that will help build foot and lower leg strength
Puma Grip gets so much love that I think people often overlook how good the Nitro foam is. They also do a great job of keeping the weight down, considering the amount of rubber they're putting on these shoes. Come on, Puma; give me a nice rockered shoe now.
the warmest i've run in it so far is at ~70 degrees on the treadmill and it feels the same. TPU is generally pretty resistant to temperature change so it should be okay
Hi and thanks for your video. The shoe seems to run way narrower than version 2. Did you find that the fit was becoming more accommodating after a certain amount of miles? Thank you!
Unfortunately no - it stayed narrow through all 100 miles I ran in it 🙁 if you want something similar with a more accommodating fit I'd check out the Asics novablast 4 or Nike Vomero 17
thanks aj! i just ordered the deviate nitro 2 and it should be coming in this week so stay tuned. compared to my other plated shoes though, it can do basically everything that a plated shoe can do - it's not the softest but it feels great when running fast
@@supwell Great, I just got the Deviate Nitro 2 and I am impressed with the quality of the shoe that I use for my casual runs( Degenerative Lumbar Disc & Left Hip Spur) and hopefully this Sunday will be using them for my military fitness test.
I must say the DVN 2’s worked well for me during my military fitness test. Used them for the entire event, held up well during the 2 mile run, overall I improved considerably I only did 2 runs with the shoe. Looking forward to adding more miles in them and possibly adding the Velocity Nitro 3’s to my rotation as my cruiser shoe.
it's not bouncy like an endorphin speed 3 or triumph or vaporfly. it's more like the boston 12, where once you get going with some pace it responds well to a more forceful footstrike. you have to put some effort into the shoe to get the bounce out of it - whereas a shoe like the speed 3 pops you along no matter the pace
saucony triumph 20 - my favorite long run shoe that also has a great deal right now. i got mine for christmas 2022, put 350+ miles on my pair and it's still going. have done everything from marathon workouts to 2+ hour long runs. overall a super comfortable and bouncy shoe. here's my link for it www.runningwarehouse.com/Saucony_Triumph_20/descpage-ST20M05.html?from=Supwell
I really thought my Velocity 2s wouldn't last a long time mind you I'm a Heel Striker. but it didn't last long on the Heel part. it melted? fast on 3 40ks. I need to change my Strike forefoot maybe?
If not getting injured, you don’t have to change it. Heel striking isn’t bad unless it’s with a straight knee while impacting the ground. Just look at Matt from Doctors of Running, he’s a PT and heavy heel striker, wears out heels in like 50-70miles on a lot of shoes.
agreed with jeremy - unless you're getting injured or not meeting your running goals and have maxed out your weekly mileage, there's no reason to change your form

I wish puma made wide shoes. Regular width just doesn't work for my hobbit feet 😔
Puma also has wide option!
I don't think they did for the nitro 2 so I doubt it for the 3
The did for Deviate Nitro 2.@@JonathanSanders458
my contact at puma is checking whether this will come in wide - i'll let you know when they get back to me

it would be amazing if the magnify nitro 3 had a rocker and dual foam nitro and nitro elite. not gonna happen but that would be a great shoe
@@supwell With a 6mm drop. Wait, that's what the Deviate Nitro 3 should be. I'd pay full retail for that shoe.
@@supwelllook up the puma magmax. Top layer of nitro elite foam max cushion training shoe. Should be coming out fall 2024
Really helpful review. Do you think the foam is very reactive to the temperature and would feel a lot softer in the summer?
the warmest i've run in it so far is at ~70 degrees on the treadmill and it feels the same. TPU is generally pretty resistant to temperature change so it should be okay
The foam that's more sensitive to temperature is the Lightstrike Pro (Boston 12). Folks say it's too stiff in the cold.
@@supwell - many thanks for your response!
These are at $67 usd in my country rn, I already have some NB propel v4, u think these would be nice for my rotation? I'm not looking for too advanced

Novablast 3?

now that's an idea ;)
Looks like Forever run nitro.
hahah yeah someone the other day said all the puma shoes look the same and i agree
I don’t believe you! 😂
hahaha i say a lot of questionable things - which one is this referencing?
A shit shoe. The Powertape at the inside is causing pain and blisters after some miles. Would never buy it again.
