My dad used to own a 2007 Aveo hatchback in red, and it had a rear spoiler. In 2013, it was parked in the parking lot at his workplace, and apparently, someone backed into it, and the back windshield got shattered and the trunk door got dented up. The owner of the car who backed into the Aveo gave my dad insurance. My dad had a rental Chevy Impala for 24 days as a result of that. In 2018, the Aveo was in a rear-end collision on the road, and at the time this happened, my dad noticed the car was almost out of gas. He had just enough gas left to get home (the gas canister was smashed in in the collision) and after that, he never drove it again. A few days later, it was towed away, and that was the end of the 2007 Chevy Aveo for my dad. He now has a 2018 Chevy Spark. True story.

Hello, I’m the dad of Elevator Dude (Liam)! He has an amazing memory and attention to detail, and everything in his post above is completely accurate! In addition, I have three other things to ad!
      1. His Mom and I bought that car in 2007, four years after we got married. It was the first new car we bought together!
      2. When I had the accident on January 16, 2018, I was on my way to commentate a boys high school basketball game at Cascade High School. After getting the guy’s insurance information, I drove out to the game and commentated, then went to the gas station on the way home, but discovered that I could not get the fuel door open, so I drove home. The link to the game is below and I talk about the accident at halftime!
      3. Upon getting the insurance settlement, I wanted to buy another Aveo, but found that it had been replaced with the Spark, so I bought a yellow one and have been driving it ever since! And I bought it from the same dealership from which Liam’s mom and I bought the red Aveo 11 years earlier; Andy Mohr here in Indianapolis!
Thanks to my wonderful son Liam for his great comment!
Here is the link to the game!

Lec Zorn that’s wild. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a RUclips comment where someone tells a story and then the actual person involved comments on it. For anyone wondering I watched the video he talks about it at around 59 minutes. HE ACTUALLY GAVE PROOF TO BACK IT UP! Totally wholesome, hope you’re enjoying your new Spark, hopefully nothing happens to the rear end of this one!

Saw plenty of these cars in Saudi Arabia. But they disappeared off the roads so quick that by the time the T250 body style came around, it was extremely rare to spot a T200. Mind you, there were only 4-5 years of age gap between them. Whereas, the Toyota Echos and Yaris were still kicking bottoms 10-15 years later. Occasionally though, a wild T200 would appear, extremely beat-up, busted out lamps, car not even driving straight, OR a meticulously kept, top trim yellow sedan here or a nice blue hatchback there. These cars sure make me feel nostalgic. Ahh!! miss my childhood.

I have this car. I love it, and it is my first car, so 10/10 recommend this for new drivers. Mostly in town driving very few out of town. Nice to get more info on it. Only paid 4,000, like you said. With its age, it had a few things to fix but in all amazing for first car. Only spend $20-25 to fill Gass tank very rarely needs filled mb a week or two. I'm a hs student, and work. It definitely gets me where I need to go. Low mileage and low cost are great deals. I got my driver side backed in to, and it's held up great. 😊💖

Funny, I watched your wave review last week and was wondering if you would do an Aveo since I own one and love seeing others views on it. Interesting note, this car specifically predated the recession as it started in late 2006, which itself was a facelifted version of the original 2003 model that had a slightly dressed up interior, confusingly the old style hatch co existed with the new sedan for a few years before they updated it for the 2009 model year. Great video 👍

My wifes car gave out on her the day before I had to leave town for 2 weeks and we were in a pinch to buy something in a hurry. We went to the lot and it was a choice between this and a Honda Civic, I choose this because it was a few thousand dollars cheaper. Boy was that the worst decision I ever made. Almost immediately we had to bring it back to the shop because throttle would cut out and the wiring harness had to be re-crimped. Then it had a wheel bearing that needed replacing. Then the rubber duct from the air filter to the throttle body dry rotted out causing unmetered air into the engine. Then one of the ignition coils went bad, but because the ignition coils are one piece I couldn't just replace the bad one. It would never stay in alignment and chewed thru tires. The final straw came when the air conditioning condenser exploded on a cross country trip. All of these problems on a car with less than 70,000 miles. We traded it in when the AC went out and I was damn happy to be rid of it. Dealer gave us what we had left owed on it and I consider that a hell of a bargain. Owning this car completely turned me off of GM products for life. I've owned Japanese cars since then and I've had no problems other than routine maintenance.

Here in New Zealand, these were a Daewoo Kalos. Kiwis didn't buy many of them as they were considered dated and probably unreliable.
The engine and transmission were old school, but should be reliable as they were proven technology. Having been around since the 1980s.
Originally produced by Opel. (GM Germany). They were designed to be cheap and basic. I see nothing wrong with that. I actually have one on my watch list of auctions. 1 x owner, 2003 auto with only 29000kms. (18000 miles). Simple technology. If you treat it well and keep it serviced, it should keep you driving for many years

But I still love my car. It does it work every day and I really appreciate it.

Decent review but I think you should highlight that the specific car you're testing is a base model. The Aveo was available with niceties such as power windows and mirrors, cruise control etc. It's not fair to the car to make it seem like ALL of them are as low spec as this one. It was all a matter of how much money (or lack thereof) you had to spend on a car back in 2008/9... some got the poverty spec like this one, while others opted for higher spec versions.
