They said that about numerous fighters but haters always change goalposts. Matter of fact when he fought Kovalev at 175, they claimed he was deliberately bypassing 168 because it had undefeated talented and bigger champs which haters claimed he was avoiding yet somehow complained when he lined them up for undisputed. Matter of fact, prior to Canelo facing Saunders, Atlas said Canelo would have to be at his best because he would continue to make it tough late in the fight and he called Smith a talented and big KO puncher who knows how to use his range then turned around and called them cherrypicks when Caenlo got it done lol.

So true. Caleb Plant was a very good fighter up against one of the greats. At least in this fight, you could see him trying a few different things, at various points, but just could not get any of it to work. Charlo on the other hand was a very mediocre fighter. After one round he just gave up and was focused solely on running and hiding to survive for 12 rounds. Sure, he didn't get stopped, but man, I could also run away and hide for 12 rounds and survive, but that doesn't make me any better.

Great display from Canelo of how variety between the head and the body works so effectively - and how even the punches that are blocked work to your advantage.
Could have been a different fight if Plant had a little more pop in his punches - and a better gas tank.
Plant fought well behind his jab, slipped, moved and countered well throughout the fight. He started to tire from round 7 onward - which was down to a combination of the pace Canelo likes to fight at along with the volume of body shots he took.
When Plant was having success and sneaking in some of his power shots - it was telling that Canelo immediately walked him down afterward. This wasn't bravado from Canelo to make Plant feel he wasn't hurting them enough - it was because Canelo felt he'd taken the best of what Plant had to offer and knew the risk of walking him down was minimal. As noted before - if Plant carried a little more power, we would have still seen Canelo come forward, but it would have been a more reserved forward motion with his guard up.
As for Plant fading - from the first round, Plant fought well behind a good guard. He protected his face well and as Canelo's body shots earlier were more central to his body, he tucked his elbows in well. Canelo saw this and started to vary up how he attacked the body. Clever in his approach so that Plant didn't adapt his guard too much - he kept on peppering the middle, often hitting arms, but then the last body shot of most sustained attacks was sneaky enough to make Plant think (at least early on) that the placement was accidental. Canelo appeared to shift to one side by accident - as though the momentum of the punches were naturally causing his body to move out. In fact, little tiny shuffles of his feet took him slightly out to Plants side so he could end a flurry with one big dig around the elbows.
As noted - sneaky because the punch setup and the trajectory of the arm was identical to when he was hitting Plants arms/elbows - but the series of shuffles had moved him an inch or so outside, so that the arc of the punch came in behind his arms. Tough for Plant to know for a couple of rounds if that was intentional or accidental - by which time the punches had already done the damage.
Then that left - the big one that started the sequence to the first knockdown. Canelo had thrown that punch several times throughout the fight and had hit gloves. The relentless nature of how Canelo mixed up his punch selection throughout the fight led to this punch being available.
Head, body, arms, chest, shoulders - Canelo hit everything so often, and in many cases the initial motion of the punch was the same - that Plant became unsure whether to block high or low. Canelo's left especially starts from the exact same spot and then goes up or down mid-swing. Early in the fight, Plant was anticipating and reacting well. As both his arms, body and brain tired in the later rounds, he was anticipating a little slower and that gave Canelo the opening.
