First because it’s Japanese honorifics, so in general they will be rarely using it anyway. Though, they do call their Holostars JP seniors as senpai (also reminding that Vesper and the rest of other boys are HoloSTARS EN, not “Hololive HoloTempus EN”). But also as our friend mentioned above, both 1st Gen and 2nd Gen or HoloSTARS EN are within the same group, HoloTempus. So basically they’re not that much having gaps between them. Not sure though if later HoloSTARS EN Gen 3 turns to be a whole different grouping (not part of Tempus), we don’t know yet of they will do call the Tempus as their senpai. I heard, Holostars and ID gen also the same. Stars not really see the ID first gen as their senpai since the debut's interval is short. Oga confirmed this and both sides agree to the term that, they are more into family than seniority.
In Niji JP, most liver used "San" instead of "Senpai". They only use "Senpai" to Mito, Rin, and Kaede most of the time. Granted, there is still some honorifics, but Senpai only dropped when the liver didn't know each other.
Senpai-kouhai culture really is more about the time, experience and contribution. You usually respect the older, longer working coworkers because of their contribution and experience in the company. However if an expert was hired even if it's a newbie they would be respected like a senpai because of their knowledge and expertise. The relationship dynamic is complicated you have to experience it to understand.
Agreed. Hololive's representation of the senpai/kouhai culture i feel is just for entertainment. In today's workplaces no one usually addresses someone else xyz-senpai/kouhai except in situations where experience and knowhow is needed, -san and repsect is enough because truth be told someone could be a new hire and lower rank but he has been in the business longer than some young managers. -senpai/kouhai maybe is used most often in academic institutions but not as strictly anymore.
Yes I've seen it back then with Coco and her senpais. A lot of the senpais shows more respect to Coco although she is the kouhai. I think its because Coco had more experience in the industry and she is a well known youtuber in Japan. In a way it reminds me of how Hololive's Gen 5 is technically senpais to HoloMyth, but because they debuted months apart it doesn't really feel like a proper Senpai/Kouhai relationship. At least I know Botan and Lamy talked about they don't feel like senpai's to Holomyth and are okay with that.
In the end it's more about culture. JP and EN difference is obvious, but most people in ID (except Kobo but she's a kusogaki) use senpai as well even though some of them are extremely close. While you don't exactly use 'senpai' but both Indonesian language and their hundreds of local languages mostly have equivalent of "senpai", and in some languages even has an entirely different sets of 'language mode' for different level of respect. That makes for an easy transfer of "senpai" to be absorbed into daily convo (which is not the case for English language for most part)
