  • Twin sisters Emily and Jessica perform their 1940's dance act - following the success of their Great Gatsby themed act. Get booking for your 40's event - In need of wartime entertainment? Look no further! hello@thetwinswing.com
Are you planning a Military themed party this year?
Why not book some really unique entertainment to bring your guests back to the old dance halls and underground bars of the 1940s? To the music of The Andrew Sisters and Glen Miller, the twins will entertain guests with original, hand-made costumes to add to the authenticity of the event. Inspired by Gene Kelly, the choreography has elements of humour and acting - oh and don't forget, tap! Jessica and Emily will dance to their hearts content and ensure the night is a Blitz Party success! And to add to that, they will even get your guests on their feet learning some of the moves!
Heres a bit of history that might give you inspiration for your event:
Dance halls started in the early 1930s with the famous Savoy in new York City being the first truly integrated building in the United States for both dancers and musicians: ''We didn't care about the color of your skin. All we wanted to know was: Can you dance?''
The structural forms of dance halls in the 30s included the Dance Pavilion (a roof but no walls apparently!) and the Open Air Platform which had no roof or walls. Inspiration for your event: why not host your event in the open air?
In 1939, the Jitterbug dance was described as thus:
“You have to sway, forwards and backwards, with a controlled hip movement, while your shoulders stay level and your feet glide along the floor. Your right hand is held low on the girl’s back, and your left hand down at your side, enclosing her hand.” - Doesn't sound too difficult... right?!?
The American soldiers stationed in Britain during World War Two brought their dances with them and a craze began. Lindy was a fusion of many dances that preceded it, combining partner and solo dancing. It is mainly based on jazz, tap, breakaway and the Charleston.
