I rushed to the arena and got there just in time for Lu's speech tho with my section finding my dad and Is seat. I still remember being 8 years old watching Luongo and was the reason I wanted to play goalie. Though I never went pro alot of why I loved being a goalie was because of him. Cheering lu again made me tear up abit. Amazing game by the Canucks and demer. And Bob if you're a goaltender tend the goal
I remember his first game with us was against the Detroit red wings and we win 3-1. I remember thinking WOW. This goalie is going to do amazing things! I’ve been a goalie for my whole life and he has definitely been one of my favourites
Its still possible if we get new owners, but I have the best idea. Retire #1 with a jointed banner if MCLEAN and LUONGO, half the banner in orange, yellow, and black, and the other in blue, white, and green. That would look very beautiful up there. Ceremony could go for an hour, half an hour for each speech. That could seriously work out, and I wish I could somehow let management and the owners know that.
Love how everyone booed Torts, what a joke it was to not start him in Heritage Classic. Luongo is a class act, congrats to him on a great career as a Canuck.
I haven't watched hockey for a long time, it's been difficult getting coverage in the UK but I started again this season, as always following the Canucks. This season has been incredible, this night with Lu brought back some incredible memories and relit my passion for this sport and this team. Lu was always my favourite player, and Denko is filling his shoes nicely.
My guess is they were doing this first to gauge fan reaction. I think the vast majority of fans have moved past the "blame" on him and see that he honestly put his heart and soul into doing the best he could for this team. And what he did, while not perfect, was still absolutely amazing. They may not retire his number but if they do I think most would be fine with it. I know I would.
Loungo is the one who stopped the goalie graveyard in Vancouver that was littered with the careers of Potvin, Snow, Irbe, Cloutier that not since early 1990’s Captain Kirk did the Canucks have a great goaltender
Cloutier was not a bad goaltender. He had 3 consecutive 30 win seasons and the Canucks never missed the playoffs when he was the starter. He was injured badly in 2005 by Rob Niedermayer but never could get back to 100% health.
@@jtom68 If Cloutier didnt get hurt, things might have been different. I am old, I watched the team live during those years. They had offensive talent but they played a weak game defensively. Was like that for most of Crow's time there
@@vikinginsane6770 I can only name the 2011-2012 and 1994 when the Canucks actually had a defenseman that play defense and get the puck on a breakout and 1994 only had one in Jeff Brown But Cloutier even before his acl injury still couldn’t do anything in the playoffs as he couldn’t steal games in the playoffs and you show me a goalie that can’t steal playoff games then that is a team not going anywhere guaranteed

Canucks are 20-9-1!. Everything going the Canucks way this year and I’ll tell you that for free. Plan the parade down Robson and Davie street all the way down through Stanley Park. Eddy G in El Salvador on satellite 🛰️ wifi and back in Vancouver in April in time for the Canucks playoff run in 2024!. So much good content for Vancouver sports radio and podcasts like RinkWide with Jeff Patterson and Halford and Brough and especially the Canucks post game show with Sat and Bik on 650am radio in Vancouver and the feud between Thomas Drance and Rick Daliwal is the best. The 2023/24 Vancouver Canucks are the only team since the 1984/85 Edmonton Oilers to score this many goals in their first 16 games of the season. And first team to have a quartet of players (Pettersson, JT Miller, Hughes, Boeser) in NHL history to score 25 points each in their first 23 games of the season even surpassing the 1984/85 Edmonton Oilers. That year the Oilers went on to win the Stanley Cup. You can certainly see the similarities between both teams. Pettersson {Gretzky}, JT Miller {Messier}, Hughes {Coffey}, Hronek {Huddy}, Boeser {Kurri}, Demko {Fuhr/Moog}.
If only he won the cup in 2011. He would be a unanimous top 5 goalie of all time and possibly top 3. He has basically every other accolade there is besides a cup and a vezina...which he got robbed of in 07 i believe it was. How is it that he lost the vezina to brodeur, but then was 2nd to crosby in hart trophy votes .. If those two things happened for him, he goes from a top 15 goalie ever to a top 5 for sure
