If I paid any attention in physics class, I remember that the efficiency of power transmission through Hertzian dipole antennae is terribly inefficient. So while this charging thing will make your life more comfortable, take note that it will also append some zeroes to your electricity bill.
Regular old wired charging of a cell phone uses about fifty cents worth of power a year. If it goes to two dollars a year that's not going to break the bank or significantly alter your energy footprint.
It's not very efficient, true, but I know firsthand that it's super convenient to just drop your phone/watch on a pad/dock and walk away without having to plug it in.
Peter Glaab No, no. You misunderstand. The thing that is being advertised here is not inductive charging and it's a few orders of magnitude less efficient than inductive charging. This is (most likely) based on transferring energy via radio waves. Energy, mind you, not information. It uses thousands of antennae (angled slightly differently because dipole antennae can only receive waves in one orientation), which all broadcast in every direction which means the tiny percentage of antennae that charge your phone will be broadcasting a huge huge huge percentage of their energy into directions that will never connect to your phone or at least lose a lot of energy on their way there. And Alexander Roderick , it's unfathomably less efficient than wired charging. Keep in mind that this thing will charge anything in range 100% of the time. It will be a lot more expensive energy-wise than a few dollars.

I honestly think the spermbots thing is a bad idea If the sperm isn't strong or suited enough to make its way, then it's because it's damaged or in other ways unfit for reproduction The whole idea of natural selection is that only the *most* capable survives; and with this technology we also allow the _least_ capable to do so. Infertility might be worse for the individual, but not for society as a whole

I believe spermbots may be unethical, as widespead usage may lead to evolutionary changes, which, in the long run, will cause sperm to have genetic disabilities that require men to use spermbots to be fertile at all. This could of course be prevented by only issuing spermbots for men that are infertile due to non-genetic causes. There's also something to be said about sperm quality related to age. As far as I know, older women have a significantly higher chance at children with Down syndrome. I fear that a similar effect may be present for men. The reason we're not seeing this right now might be that sperm are active and egg cells are passive, meaning only the sperm has to work correctly for the process of fertilization to complete. I hope I'm not right, but these are a few of the concerns I have.
+Gamesaucer I agree.. Now, I'm not trying to sound horrible here, but if used, all we're going to be doing is encouraging the reproduction of men with said genetic disabilities, meaning it'll be more common in the future. To be honest, it's throwing out the concept of "survival of the fittest", and in the long run, will hurt the human race. But then again, the same can be said for literally everything that helps us (genetically, medically, physically, etc...).
I completely believe that we should get back to a more 'survival of the fittest' mentality, but I don't think it's something that's ethical to enforce either. I'm not sure what the right decision is, and it's a balancing act between maintaining human rights and privileges, and doing what is best for the future of our race. It's one of the reasons I'm a supporter of eugenics, although it's something I'll definitely admit is far from perfect, and it's definitely not something I'd like to enforce. More, like... an opt-in program where people with less desirable traits get extra benefits from adopting a child rather than having one? I don't know. Frankly, it's a mess to sort out ethically, but I'm hoping we can get it done in an acceptable way.
+Gamesaucer Survival of the fittest isn't supposed to be some moral code. It's just a statement of fact about how evolution works. When we use the intelligent minds we have evolved to find a way to survive and reproduce more, that is 'survival of the fittest' at work, and that includes technological solutions to infertility. Secondly, its just not true that this would make any genetic infertility genes spread throughout the whole population, if there are such genes. The reason for this is that having these genes wouldn't cause you to have more children than the average person, even with the aid of spermbots. Even if the spermbots made an infertile man much more fertile than a naturally fertile man, that wouldn't cause the genes to spread. Firstly because if they are so great, everyone would use them, rendering the genes irrelevant. Secondly because for the majority of (fertile) people, the number of children you have isn't limited by your fertility, its limited by other things first (meaning, even though you can produce enough sperm to have 100s of children, most people don't). Any genes causing fertility would remain a minority.
+rich potato natural selection is never going to go away, and it is still important today. Take diseases for example, if a portion of the population has a natural resistance to a lethal disease, they will carry on those genes and eventually that disease will not be a problem.
Science goes at the speed that people are willing to try new things. And that is why science is going so fast. To slow science, we must become less curious, but curiosity helped get us where we are, long story short: science will not slow down.
Society would not want a spermbot.... The reason sperm are weak is because they have issues. We do not know how this will affect the resulting child. Though it may combat infertility, it could lead to more DNA-influenced diseases and disabilities.
Paul Mahoney Then your genes are messed up, if your reproduction organs were damaged (in the way you are talking about) they wouldn't be able to create sperm in the first place.
+Paul Mahoney Damaged testicles won't produce malfunctioning sperm, it'll either produce less or none of it. if sperm is damaged in any way it is due to genetics.
That braille thing though. I'm not blind, but that is dope. Imagine that making the outlines of photos and stuff. Blind people being able to feel for Facebook pictures is a future I'd like to live in.
I really like the fact that this came out in two weeks instead of one month. Even though the one that takes a month is generally longer. It's nice to get my dose of mind blow early even if its not as potent lol.

ive noticed that mind blow is just like a huge teaser (sometimes trailer) to the future and all we have now is either some kind of kickstarter, pre-order, early access, open or closed beta
the fact that I had the exact same idea as that braille thing, a long while ago, like when I was like 12 or 14. I called it Dotrise, haha. That is SOOOO cool. The drawings are somewhere among my giant mess of papers. It's so amazing how similar the concept is. wow, just wow.
Good video. Should watch these more often. I tend to skip some videos in my subscription box, just because there are so many. These are worth watching though. You pleasantly surprised me, dear sir.
actually Nickola Tesla was extremely close to this in 1893 but on a much larger scale. The only reason this wireless charging wasn't around sooner was because his project has no practical use at the time, all of his funds were cut for the project, and eventually all of his notes and journals were destroyed.
I know living longer is good and all but the population of earth is already so big, if humans start living for over 110 years old this earth couldn't sustain that many people. We would need like another earth.
+Albert Vandivort No the Earth is actually quite empty with most of the Earth's population in a circle encasing india and china, therefore there is less then 3.5 billion people in about 160 countries
+Albert Vandivort NASA's working on that, hopefully they'll have it sorted :P And on the upside, it means smart people will be around longer to fix all the issues sooner ;)
+Manofiron norifonoM physically the earth can hold a lot more also with CO2 levels being lower then usual (unless you're in China) with about 0.05% being CO2 in the air compared to 100% when the earth was created also iceland runs entirely on renewable energy. ALSO there is a proven theory of a 100,000 year long cycle of the changing temperatures of Earth of which we are currently on the incline.
very creative, frankly speaking, i hvn't come across these creatitivities so far. No doubt science & technologies are improved so much. But still these are unbelievable creativities . ( VIJAYA RUclips SINGER )
Isn't the bellboy like a beeper? I remember those, my dad used to have one, it recorded the number that was trying to reach you, it was even easier for him because as someone who worked on the telephone company he was always able to just plug himself into the exterior phone "controlers" in any block (i have no idea what they are called or used for) and just call whatever number free.
wow, i was just thinking about this super wireless charging like a couple months ago. XD the idea of like a field the size of a room being produced from a charger and anyone inside it having there phone and such charge. although i did think of it being a bit more powerful.
I think the first technology could be potentially dangerous in the long run. If a wireless charger has the ability to power the battery without physical connection, how secured are other components of the phone such that it cannot be invaded wirelessly. I've heard of lithium batteries exploding when used and charged at the same time, would this be a safety concern as well?
I still can't get over that it has been "Mind Blow" the whole time instead of "Mind Blown." Reminds me of the whole Barenstein to Barenstain Bears theory.

What if the sperm is weak from an accident, but not genetics?
Just how likely do you think that is? -_-
+Boden Ross what if it was from damaged reproductive organs?
Paul Mahoney Then your genes are messed up, if your reproduction organs were damaged (in the way you are talking about) they wouldn't be able to create sperm in the first place.
+Paul Mahoney Damaged testicles won't produce malfunctioning sperm, it'll either produce less or none of it. if sperm is damaged in any way it is due to genetics.
Why is this just so relaxing to listen to? I want more :(
Really diggin the retro stuff at the end
That braille thing though. I'm not blind, but that is dope. Imagine that making the outlines of photos and stuff. Blind people being able to feel for Facebook pictures is a future I'd like to live in.
I love watching this series because it astounds me how creative humans can be if we put our minds to it.
That was one of teh quickest 5:40 of my life mostly because how interesting and enjoyable the video is
I really like the fact that this came out in two weeks instead of one month. Even though the one that takes a month is generally longer. It's nice to get my dose of mind blow early even if its not as potent lol.
wow the Bell Boy at the end really blew my mind! How does it work? wow, just wow!
the cart on the wall is pretty neat, would like to see a bunch of them race. go from road to wall and continue racing. not at all like mario kart though. lol
These videos always give me hope for the human race and what we can achieve when trying to change the world for the better. :)
Water out of thin air... That's incredible! That's like the most useful possible invention for pretty much anyone or anything that lives!!!
These videos help restore my faith in humanity.
Best internet channel so far!
So glad these guys are posting again
ive noticed that mind blow is just like a huge teaser (sometimes trailer) to the future and all we have now is either some kind of kickstarter, pre-order, early access, open or closed beta
I was wondering what was missing from my sub box for so long.. keep it coming vsauce you are awesome!
You need to post more!!! Its like finding gold when your videos appear in my sub feed.
Feels like forever since I have seen another Mind Blow
WOW!!! Thanks again. This show is so aptly titled. Every GD time.
That last clip was incredible.
Perfect vision and collection of information.
the fact that I had the exact same idea as that braille thing, a long while ago, like when I was like 12 or 14. I called it Dotrise, haha. That is SOOOO cool. The drawings are somewhere among my giant mess of papers. It's so amazing how similar the concept is. wow, just wow.
This is still one of my favorite RUclips channels =) So much cool information. The wall climbing robot is the shit! So is the household robot
Good video. Should watch these more often. I tend to skip some videos in my subscription box, just because there are so many. These are worth watching though. You pleasantly surprised me, dear sir.
This serie is fantastic.
Ever thought of revisiting previous MBs to see how the inovations have progressed since you first mentioned them?
Do you think you could put more really old "tech innovations of the future?!" That was awesome
I really love this series
This episode should be filled with how-to's, it's mind blown 101!
Mind is always blown as usual, thanks
actually Nickola Tesla was extremely close to this in 1893 but on a much larger scale.
+Albert Vandivort NASA's working on that, hopefully they'll have it sorted :P
And on the upside, it means smart people will be around longer to fix all the issues sooner ;)
And what are you supposed to do at the age anyways? Unless it slows down our body from decaying I would not want to be 110+
+87ironFTW quite the opposite, Humans have surpassed the earths carrying capacity and are living above their means
Pager clip was really cool!
The charging thing sounds briliant!
and as always I wish there were more mindblow episodes...
alright its been more than 5 years whats happening
the old technology at the end was great
Isn't the bellboy like a beeper? I remember those, my dad used to have one, it recorded the number that was trying to reach you, it was even easier for him because as someone who worked on the telephone company he was always able to just plug himself into the exterior phone "controlers" in any block (i have no idea what they are called or used for) and just call whatever number free.
Its about time another video is posted
wow, i was just thinking about this super wireless charging like a couple months ago. XD the idea of like a field the size of a room being produced from a charger and anyone inside it having there phone and such charge. although i did think of it being a bit more powerful.
the wall climbing robot was the only thing in any mind blow that really blew my mind
I really love the music used to make Vsauce videos, it's great.
Technology is amazing ... From Bell Boy to IPhone in my life time ....
Thank you Kevin, the way you want the Disney vehicle, made me laugh loud, You're too good. Thanks for making your videos with so much passion!!
good to have u back
Knowledge, knowledge never changes.
Vsauce2 is such a high class RUclipsr. Amazing video!
And as always.. I love these videos
My mind just got blown at 0:19 WOW
And to another 100 more Mind Blow for the future!
I still can't get over that it has been "Mind Blow" the whole time instead of "Mind Blown." Reminds me of the whole Barenstein to Barenstain Bears theory.
Love that lego spaceship at the end
So, what are the differences between the well-known, loved idea of Tesla Coil to Ossia Cota's Wireless Charger ?
So I preodered my bellboy today. Can't wait!
