That's some vinyl collection you have there! Those black plastic discs in their beautiful artworked sleeves are the most precious of possessions. Your memories of the Ziggy tour are fascinating & it is so sad that Mick, Trevor & David are no longer with us. As a 16 year old in 1972 I remember the era so well & bought much of the vinyl on its release date. The Space Oddity 45rpm is indeed on the blue Phillips label & I have it in my collection. David's manager at the time was Tony Defries & not Tim. He was reputedly a shark & it later cost David a reported $27m to get out of the Defries Mainman contract. It must have been wonderful living in the moment musical history was being made.

I think Bowie wasn't an ET , on the contrary he was the most human among us (well I was on short pants on those days) he was the most free man around in every subject. Fashion, pop-music and in showbiz he kept been number One . What a lucky man you are Mister just to meet him even dance with him . I am very happy to hear from you that mans like John Lennon and David Bowie have a very very spacial place on the heart of the people who really listen the music and appreciate the artist. Thanks for sharing this

We lost a true artist when Bowie passed. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to see him perform at The Bridge School Benefit here in Northern CA. AN amazing acoustic set spanning Hunky Dory To Ziggy.

Bowie seemed to lighten up after the 70s. He always seemed to be so happy in interviews in the 80s and 90s through to his death. Would have been cool to meet him then.

I wasn't thrilled by your Beatles boxes because they're everywhere on RUclips. But then I found this Bowie-Box video of yours. I am too young to understand your enthusiastic spoken word about his show. But I met mister Bowie back in 2015 and he signed some CD's of mine. Thanks for the words of you about Mr. Bowie.

I think it's great that there is a vinyl revival and people are rediscovering it. I find the RUclips channels about vinyl hoardes and snagging really enjoyable and I don't even own a turntable or vinyl! What I dislike is the comment you make in this video about listening on a computer. I listen on a computer (Raspberry Pi and a desktop) and I also have a CD player, preamp, amp and PSU setup. Not everybody has 1) the money to afford vinyl or a decent turntable 2) the space to store it and possibly the most important 3) an extremely understanding partner or ideally somebody who shares their love of vinyl.
    Peace out!

+Michael Fremer definitely. I tried to reach out to him as we are connected on Facebook but no response. I used to spend ages in the cutting room watching him at work. A record could live or die in there, it could be EQ'd to death, but you know that. Great video, thanks.

Enjoyed this video. I was debating whether to buy this or source the originals depending on which sounds better. Did you come to a conclusion as to which versions have the ultimate best sound of all the vinyl releases?

    • @apollomemories73
      @apollomemories73 8 лет назад

+Matthew Stuart : I think you would have difficulty sourcing originals that are in as almost new condition and if you did manage to they would be quite expensive. This Box's pressings are excellent with (as I noticed) improved mixes for Aladdin Sane and Ziggy Stardust Soundtrack Live and you get the Rarities/B-sides collection.

Michael. Thanxx so much for making the video. Really well presented, and fantastic stories to boot. I am a proud owner of this box, and aesthetically speaking, I agree, a lot of thought has gone into it's production. Really wanna hear your thoughts on sound quality too. Not a vinyl expert,by a long shot, eagerly await your take regarding digital remastering, comparisons eg to original UK & Japanese releases of Aladdin sane etc etc. Hope you reply and let us all know soon. And get some brandy n honey for that frog in the throat. Thanx ;)

Hello Michel,, I hope your feeling better. Wow what an adventure you had back in the day! You lucky %$^. Most folks would give a part of their anatomy for the same experience.
Funny you started out selling records, I started in 74 selling stereo equipment.
Now waiting on your review, and investigation of source material for the mastering.
    My fingers are crossed.
We have hope as you mentioned the EMI Centennial "Hunky" and the recent "Ziggy" are analog. I have some folks asking me if I am going to purchase the box for review on my channel. I have the original Japan glam rock pressings of the early Bowie records for comparison . just reviewed Santana mofi 45 rpm, and Cat Stevens Quality records 45 rpm
I agree with Jim Corbet digital sourced analogue is an oxymoron

You are always such an awesome guy to listen to. The passion is so obvious.
Two things that irritate me with these new records; "remastered" and "180g vinyl"
180g vinyl makes no difference if it is horribly manufactured, scratched and marked. Like the Beatles and Bon Jovi records I own that universal apparently spewed out of wherever. Pisses me off.
As for the labels on these, I think that what they did with the labels is kind of cool. I also think it is a shame that they did not use the original RCA labels nor have the RCA logo on the covers. I guess there could be a couple of reasons for that. Bowie hated RCA and I also don't think EMI wants to promote or pay another company just for accuracy.

I am not a David Bowie fan, but I am a psycho vinyl fan. The media is superior to digital in a way that is sumwhat scary. My vinyl records sound so great 90% of the time. I get to dig Music I used to like on digital. Vinyl is so great. It is a drag that most People do not understand how fine records on vinyl really are. They refuse to listen. They point to facts from sound specialists who state that digital is clearer an all this hertz shit. Fine, but it does not capture the x factor that is vinyl. The factor that makes vinyl superior. So open and warm. There are so many treats to find at almost any thrift store that is only on vinyl, and often it hasn`t even been opened. Found a bunch of 70s Sealed soul/funk stuff for a few bucks lately. the great smell of opening a 40 year old record for the very first time is a grand experience that I cherish. Just de-dust it and play away trouble man, the masquarades, Thing Fish zappa fun boxset made for broadway. Do not even have to clean the half Century old record. the dramatics, troubleman, floaters, whipped cream and other delights (awesome vinyl press a friend from my dialysis sessions sold to me. He bought it New in 65. A fine Herb A album). Brandye, the Message is love from my friend Barry White. Oh vinyl. Dear vinyl. You enhance life.
