  • The code of the bounty hunters is very strict and originates in British common law of the Middle Ages. Bounty hunters must abide by these very rigid rules, but what exactly are they? What's allowed and not allowed when you are hunting down a fugitive? Watch today's amazing video as we go inside what it's like to be a bounty hunter and just what exactly are the rules they live by.

I'm a Bail Enforcement Agent in Michigan. I think you guys did a great job explaining how Bail works. But we do have a lot of unwritten rules we have to follow. An we are constantly watched by law enforcement and some of us are even harassed by the police for doing our job. Some should definitely be monitored closely because they do questionable things to say the least. But a huge majority of us have to tip toe around because so much is in a gray area. We constantly have to question ourselves because of this. It's a very scary position to be in when you know any move could end you up in jail until you can prove you didn't do wrong but you were arrested by an officer who was lied to or doesn't like what you do because they don't understand bail or just plain don't like what you do. There are problems with the bail system but it usually isn't because of the Agents it's usually caused from people not understanding bail or officer's not knowing the ins and outs of bail. But a lot of officers are great and make sure they call others who understand the system better. But you guys did great

I know it's 2 years later but I just stumbled across this video. I'm a recovery agent of 7 years now, also working with a PBTX conference company, in Texas and never pass an opportunity to wish a fellow agent all the best and safety. I have heard of law enforcement in some places being buttholes to our profession, and like you said it's usually a result of the officers not understanding what the Bail enforcement system is or does. I will say in Texas we have a pretty cooperative and even amiable relationship with local jurisdictions, at least around here. I have run across that one clown who thinks state employed officers are the ONLY ones who should have any authority to take someone into custody and it baffles me that street officers aren't taught or are allowed to forget, if taught, what the entirety of the criminal justice system entails or how it works. As I see more and more younger officers on the street I see less understanding of our profession and it makes me wonder if the amiability will continue. It's uncertain at this point. I am curious if you're still in Michigan, how do you feel the general attitude towards our profession has changed if at all, over the last couple years, with "bail reform" being peddled by people who know nothing about the bail system? Also do you see a lot of rhetoric vilifying you as a professional in your general area? Just curious. Anyway, may the good Lord watch you as you serve in your capacity. Be safe out there my friend.

@caliberspecificreload Correct me if I'm mistaken, but wouldn't it be a good idea to work with and educate your local (city, county, and state) police departments on an annual basis? I've considered and still do considered going into bail enforcement here in Colorado, and I'd be happy to educate my local and statewide police departments.

i worked as a hunter in California for several years, on more than one occasion me and my partner caught the target with his pants down after having followed them for a day or 2 to learn their estimated time table. the best story i got was once we learned that a fugitive was living in an apartment in san jose, so after watching the man leave, i entered the apartment by picking the lock on the door, and waited inside while my partner hung out in a place where he could see the door, and when the fugitive got back, we surrounded him, cuffed him and dragged him all the way back to LA for his assault case

Probably not a very effective bounty-hunting technique though. If the bounty hunter kills the skip then they presumably won't be getting their commission so while the video stays lethal force is allowed I would presume it's only necessary if the bounty hunter needs to protect their own life or the lives of others and they are only employed to get the person not to get information out of them so I can't see the benefit to the bounty hunter of holding a gun in the face of a person they have captured while interrogating them.

I heard of a case involving a sixty five year old man in Ontario, Canada, one that really made me mad.
This old man had bought an American business from a fraudulent owner involving useless land. He was sixty five. The purchase gave him the criminal liability as though he committed the fraud.
In the states a due diligence is required or you can go to prison. This man had apparently not done his due diligence and being used to Canadian ways was likely unaware he needed it.
Florida demanded his arrest. Bounty hunters impersonated Ontario Provincial Police and abducted the man.
He was taken across the border illegally and from a New York airport forced onto a plane for Florida while our police laughed at him.
In Florida he got a 145 year sentence and was carted to prison. There was quite an outcry but apparently he was never returned to Canada and died in the Florida prison. I never found anything more. I was very disgusted.
    Edit:
An internet search verified in a number of cases that bounty hunters have abducted people in Canada. I thought everyone should know it is happening but it is very illegal and the bounty hunters could end up in prison in Canada.

    • @daithi1966
      @daithi1966 Год назад

I don't know anything about the case you mentioned, but I lean towards thinking it is BS that some gut who buys some land gets 145 years for a crime he didn't commit. Sorry, but it doesn't pass the smell test. It sounds too much like Jessie Smollett getting attacked by MAGA Republicans in Chicago. In other words, pure fiction.
I also have no problem with a bounty hunter returning rapists, murderers, arsonists, and other felons even if they fled to Canada, Mexico, Iran, or wherever.

Being a North Carolina bondsman personally, skip recovery is no fun game. They fight a lot of the time and its never fun or cheap finding them. But bail bonds is a very important part of the legal system, keeping jail population somewhat lower and generally helping people maintain everyday life while they're going through their trial. Like all systems, the bail system is abused by defendants in many ways. But I personally think it helps a lot more than it hurts society. 'Dog' also isn't a model for the industry... js...

They were attempting to catch a female professional thief who was constantly staying one step ahead of the bounty hunters, slipping away to far stretches of the planet. Along the way, the hunters would catch underling associates of this woman. The strangest part of the show was the a cappella group that followed along with the bounty hunters. It was quite interesting.

Real life bounty Hunter here. Live in Texas.
    1. We cannot say we are agents (in Texas) or perceive to be police. Zero tolerance for that.
    2. Upon sight of target; we can come into your house regardless of invitation or welcome.
    3. No we can’t just shoot them to stop them from running.
    4. (In Texas) to be a BH, you must be licensed through a security agency. Becoming a PI is the best way. (Also helps with insurance and being sued)
    5. All previous licenses are null and void once becoming a BH.
    6. Urged to have license to carry (trust me you want it)
    7. If you can buy a gun honestly (can pass the background check) you’ll pass the check to become a PI to become a BH.
    8. Always call your local Pd or Sheriff when you’re working a case. 75% of the time they’ll offer help.
    9. No we aren’t like Dog the Bounty Hunter. I’m tired of hearing that 😅
    10. It’s a long drawn out stake out 90% of the time. Calling leads, waiting outside hotels, motels, houses, stores. Sometimes a case will take 3 months before an arrest is made. Only get paid if the arrest is made. It’s a though gig.
    11. We Work multiple cases, some can be solved in 4 hours, others take up to 3 months.
    12. The more dangerous the individual the more money he’s worth. 👌🏼 cartel = $$$

I'm a licensed armed/commissioned security officer in Texas and according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) there is no OFFICIAL license or training via the state to license bounty hunters, but to be eligible to do so, you have to have one of three licenses/certificates:
    -Texas Peace Officer certificate
    -Private investigator license
    -Armed/Commissioned security officer license
There might be additional ones, but those were the 3 I recall. So technically speaking if you have any of those 3 in Texas, you can go bounty hunting!

Bounty Hunters also cover those who are the classical type, the people who follow Wanted posters. Those sometimes (used to mainly do) bringing in outlaws for a bounty. You covered Dog the Bounty Hunter here, he is a bail bondsman that does his own skip tracing. He never took any kind of other bounty hunting at all. Don't get me wrong, I love the Dog. It's just that making skip tracers the face of bounty hunting is like saying cops, elite security, and mercenaries are the same kind of paramilitary.

I wouldn't because on may the 5th in Canada, a lady working at a comic shop had police aiming their shotguns at her and broke her nose. She was in clone trooper gear and had a plastic gun. Pretty dumb.

I'm a Fugitive recovery agent and just seeing this. I'm also a Bail Bond agent for a bail bond company in Texas, and yeah this is pretty accurate. I love getting people out of jail and I usually stay pretty chill when picking up a Bail jumper. I've only had to use my weapons twice in 7 years. Interesting profile on my profession.

I did this work for a while, interesting work. You actually, as an aftereffect of the surety bond, own the person. And you can indeed enter their home or anybody's home who helped put up the bond If you get any reason to think the person will skip on the Bond. But the vast majority of the time is the person who signed for the bond who turns the person in because they don't want to lose their money when the person wants to split. Has four states making it illegal for bounty hunting, I question the legality of their Authority because the authority comes directly from the Supreme Court of the United States. It is a Judicial Authority of Superior magnitude. I always call the police department before I do a pick up, and I've only had one time a police department actually interfere with a pickup. We waited until the police officers had left the area we went back in pick the man up and left. The officers eventually called us on the phone because of course they had our phone number. We gave them our state police contact here in Michigan and said to speak with him if they had any questions. He invited them to come and make out a complaint against us for having kidnapped a member of their local population. And he said as soon as they got done squaring out that warrant that he would arrest them for obstruction of justice. We didn't have any more trouble with that Police Department after that, I don't know why.
