One of the best love songs ever written. My wife left me in 2020 during Covid season. It was one of the hardest years of my life. This song still brings me to tears.
This song takes me to a time.. A place.. A feeling.. I will never forget the first time I heard this back in 1987, I was 14 years old. This song and album got me to fall in love with U2. Thank you U2 for being there for me throughout my life and bringing me such happiness. ❤
Agreed. I, too was 14 yrs old. And never will forget the first time I heard this song. 8th grade study hall. Teacher had on the radio and I literally stopped reading and just listened. Greatest song ever

I always loved Bonos description of the song...." He says with or without you , whispers itself into the world " and we all know whispering I love you can be more powerful then yelling it
Have played this song hundreds of times over the years and it never gets old. Especially near the end at the 4:05 mark when Edge's guitar takes you to that place 🎸🔥
Hope you're doing well. Difficult times'll pass. But you'll live, love. Make yourself proud. Have faith in yourself. Live, everyday, like it's your last day. Make your life count. Be good.
This song is simply a masterpiece. Bono is so heart wrenching while singing this song, and you can touch the pain in every word he says. It's overwhelming and no one can override it.🌟❤
What fascinates me about Bono's lyrics on songs like this is his insight. A stable marriage from a pretty young age that still stands. He seemingly hasn't experienced (I could be wrong) the heartbreak of love loss. Not discounting his parental loss BTW but his lyrics point to experiences beyond his own.
@@thesighcompany maybe you're right, but I think that in every song he writes there is a piece of his mother's loss that still troubles his intimate existance unconsciously.
@@thesighcompany Something lurking beneath the surface of this song is religious struggle. It is full of allusions to Jesus and the crucifixion. Spiritual angst can be as powerful of a motivation as romantic angst, and Bono's writing is full of both.
I had the opportunity to hear/see the "Shine like Stars" snippet live in Mumbai. As soon as they started with this snippet, tears rolled down my cheeks. It was hauntingly beautiful.
En México esta fue la versión que se difundió, no se presentó como alternativa. Sólo una banda, una canción y una sofisticada fotografía en Blanco y Negro. Perfección.
Eat your heart out, Bon Jovi and The Police, "With Or Without You" is the DEFINITIVE Top 40 rock song of the mid 80's. I've always felt that "Beautiful Day" masterfully echoes how WOWY builds from a hushed, restrained beginning, to a soaring, expressive middle, to a cathartic comedown release at the end. And the conflict between what is known to be bad versus how good that "badness" makes one feel is timeless. Heck, I've done my fair share of pining for the unattainable through the years (usually for a person I can't live with or without, oddly enough) and this was/is the theme song for each of those moments.
No soy angloparlante, pero esta canción desde la primera vez que la oí, allá a por el año 1983 me fascinó, primero por su melodía, luego por su mensaje en su letra. Para mi, siempre será la "Top Ten"/I'm not an English speaker, but this song from the first time I heard it, back in 1983, fascinated me, first because of its melody, then because of its message in its lyrics. For me, it will always be the "Top Ten" /
See the stone set in your eyes See the thorn twist in your side I'll wait for you Sleight of hand and twist of fate On a bed of nails, she makes me wait And I wait without you With or without you With or without you Through the storm, we reach the shore You give it all but I want more And I'm waiting for you With or without you With or without you, ah, ah I can't live With or without you And you give yourself away And you give yourself away And you give And you give And you give yourself away My hands are tied My body bruised, she got me with Nothing to win and Nothing left to lose And you give yourself away And you give yourself away And you give And you give And you give yourself away With or without you With or without you, oh I can't live With or without you Oh, oh Oh, oh With or without you With or without you, oh I can't live With or without you With or without you

Please don’t compare the Police to Bon Jovi 😒. They are not on the same level.
Everything is subjective. I listen BJ, U2 and few more bands. I wouldn't even compare. Comparing the taste is a fools game.

See the thorn twist in your side
I'll wait for you
Sleight of hand and twist of fate
On a bed of nails, she makes me wait
And I wait without you
With or without you
With or without you
Through the storm, we reach the shore
You give it all but I want more
And I'm waiting for you
With or without you
With or without you, ah, ah
I can't live
With or without you
And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
And you give
And you give
And you give yourself away
My hands are tied
My body bruised, she got me with
Nothing to win and
Nothing left to lose
And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
And you give
And you give
And you give yourself away
With or without you
With or without you, oh
I can't live
