Blackbeard (Dark fruit user) fights Ace (flame fruit user), because Ace wanted to get revenge on Blackbeard for betraying Whitebeard. Blackbeard wins then turns in Ace to the World Gvt. Ace then is sent to be executed at Marineford, Luffy saves him, but Ace then dies to Akainu, and Whitebeard dies during the war at Marineford too, Blackbeard steals his devil fruit, and now weilds the Gura Gura no Mi along with the Yami Yami no Mi
So basically, Blackbeard sacrificed Ace for his own gain, just like how Winter sacrificed a flame fruit for his own gain (to awaken dark)

The coolest thing about Blackbeard is the dark fruit isnt the only fruit he has eaten. Let me elaborate its is rumored because of Blackbeard eating the queake fruit from white beards body while already have eaten the dark fruit. That Blackbeards firtst fruit was the cerberus fruit that allowed him to ontain and absorb 3 fruits because of the cerberus having three heads a devil fruit per head.
In new chapter of manga Blackbeards race is special that is why he has ability to eat 2 fruit.

Yo, thanks for doing dark cause it’s one of my fav fruits also dark can be very good, you just need to use it correctly and it also has great stuns btw there is a dark only combo you can do which is:
World of darkness
Endless hole
Abyssal darkness
Dimensional slash
thats not a combo thats called a move stack. a combo would include M1's or attack varietys. Not just stacking 4 abilities at once
Dimensional slash is a black clover reference
