Afyonkarahisar (also Afyon for short) is a city in Turkey. With almost a quarter of a million inhabitants, the western Anatolian city is the administrative center of the province of Afyonkarahisar and at the same time the seat of a district.
The Turkish city of Afyon is known for opium, Turkish honey and white marble. The pristine white stone used to adorn the palaces of Roman emperors, and today it is used in the bathrooms of luxury hotels.
