Why not mass produce it using press or die forming. The ballscrews, bearing, rails, motors, and a frame are enormous (because of the forces required)) in this machine, that adds a lot to cost. It is cool tho.
This machine is not intended for high volume runs like a press, rather short runs with many different sizes and shapes. To make these parts in a press you need a die for each part which is expensive.

Agreed. Though, why does a road sign need a flange? Around here, they're simply flat. Cut out with a laser, (fast, everybody has one), and done. 1000's per day, if needed, or only 1.
flange adds strength and allows use of a lighter gauge. i work in a sheet metal shop and i could make effectively the same thing faster with snips and a hand brake.
It's not always about being able to do it faster by hand, you could be doing other things while the machine is running. And good luck using a press brake to roll the corners like that. I've owned a sheet metal shop for the last 10 years and there are some things you can't do by hand. I would like to time how long it takes you to make a replica with the corners and all.
Very sad that we as people have no skills anymore. A simple bead roller, tin snips and a flanging die, then hire a person back to word to learn a skill. What a waste of money for that machine. Now an operator stands around and just watches the machine do the work.

I bet this thing can be programmed in much more faster and aggressively. I just don't see the reason to do the cutting few rounds...
The cuts at the beginning of the cycle are to reduce the scrap ring to multiple pieces that can be removed by a chute or conveyor.
So it is all about triangle tee trays
A simple sheet molding process with a press would do a much quicker work than that !
