    Some great tips. $1500 on groceries and eating out seems like a lot though. I don't think many couples would have that expense. Also, bad thing about IHG is that they raise their point cost on hotels depending on the market so if dollar cost of a Holliday Inn Express spikes to $300 before a cruise embarkation, the points for that hotel are not going to be less than 40k.

      @allent1034 I believe they were referring to their “past life” as a family of 4 in Atlanta when they quoted $1,500 for groceries and dining out. And re IHG, they specifically said using the free night that comes with the IHG card sign up for the cruise port hotel. Just thought I’d mention it. I am a solo traveler, so $1,500 a month for food related expenditure is also high for me, agreed.

      1500 on groceries is very easy to achieve in this economy

    Don't forget that the annual cost of some credit cards will offset much of the points benefit.

    I don’t have a card that specifically targets a cruise but my credit card accrues points that I can use for travel and goods. I have an automatic pay my card in full each month to avoid interest charges and basically put 90% of my purchases on my card

    I am thinking about starting a solo travel channel. Not sure yet if I want to focus on cruising or travel in general and then to also include other travel. I am considering your course to help point me in the right direction.

    Have you ever got the Royal Caribbean CC and got the welcome points- it gave me points for $300 credit. I only had to spend $2000 over a couple of months.
    I am going on a Royal Caribbean cruise in Dec 2024 and that why I got it to get the $300 credit. Racking up the point till we go on vacation🎉

      I actually got that card before I knew all of the stuff about points in miles. I used it for work for several years, did not know about the sub, but after several years of using it, I never got anything near enough for a cruise.
      When my husband and I met back in 2004 we went on both of our very first cruise on carnival and got the carnival credit card thinking this will be awesome. After putting all of our spend on that card for like five years, we finally had enough for one of us to go free.
      I learned about this points in miles thing almost a year ago and was stunned at how many free trips we could have gone on. Personally for me, I would not ever get one of these cruise credit cards because even $300 credit for a cruise is nothing compared to the points that you can get to use anywhere. I did not know about using MX points for a virgin cruise. I am totally pumped now!

    Yayy, I Just earned my AMEX gold 90K welcome bonus! I also have about 80k points on my Sapphire Preferred. I already have a deposit on a cruise for December, I’m wondering if there’s a way to apply my points to my balance?

    For Amex Platinum do you have to book with them to get those cruise perks? Or can you just pay for the cruise with the card?

    The tips and information you all provide across all your channel are always overflowing in value. 💰💪🤯📊🧠.
    Is it true you can "stack " cruise line perks? Say paying with Amex, on the cruise line's portal, with a travel agency, credit card perks, to get early booking perks, the agency that gives perks, with cruise line rewards/ loyalty perks and then on some even get shareholders onboard credits?
    If so what would you consider your ultimate cruise perks stack?🤔🤯
    With the Amex portal booking or not ?

    I have two cards that I don’t use anymore. My question is what should i do with them either close or keep them open?

    • @MissLauraSquared
      @MissLauraSquared 3 месяца назад +2

      Do they have annual fees? If not, you can lock them on your account and then keep them until you need them again potentially in the future. If they have annual fees I would cancel them.

    • @PamandLarry
      @PamandLarry 2 месяца назад +1

      Also, if they’re very old, do you want to keep them open because if you close it, you will lose that long credit history from your credit report. I have about five or six cards that do not have any annual fee that I literally leave in the drawer locked up. I never use them, but I don’t wanna close them because then your credit will take a hit. Opening or closing new cards within a year or two probably won’t affect it but these are like 10+ years old.
