#USBKiller #Tester - Наука
Hello Fam! Am I wrong about USB Killer? I can't imagine unregulated amounts of destructive power is used to test anything! Unless like I said, the plan is to check people's intelligence, and that would cost a bunch of money in equipment just to teach people a lesson! And why damage, when you can achieve the same thing in software, by tracking who plugged it?
If you like to post your thoughts and video ideas, submit them to ElectroBOOM subreddiit: www.reddit.com/r/electroboom
Hey electro. It could be used to test reverse charge protection.
How pitted are your meter probes?
I thought of one ligit use if your makeing a Artificiall general intelligence and it is going rouge then you can plug it in as a last defence.

The USB killer started as a student project. I can't believe it went into production. The purpose appears to be purely malicious - to damage other people's laptops and computers. Can you imagine if you were a student and some prick destroyed your laptop with all your work on it for a joke?
Then i would have a broken laptop and a dead body

@@DanielLopez-up6os Dark Humor is like Food, not everybody gets it.
I think the original version was used to test how well host devices would survive having defective devices plugged into them. If your USB stick went bad, it'd be bad for it to be able to destroy your computer as well.
I seem to remember seeing a list of devices which survived the USB killer completely, devices which survived but lost the port it was plugged into, and devices that failed entirely.

What about a usb port that kills your usb stick
In soviet Russia...
Many years back I had a USB hub to fit 4 USB devices into 1 USB port. With it's own power coord. Worked fine for a while. But then for some reason it broke and it resulted in killing any USB devices you'd plug into it. Took a few USB memories before I realized it. Even killed a keyboard.
Slav confirmed
Ora nge its called gloryhole
I had one of those. A USB 3.0 internal cable was damaged in transport but I didn't think it would matter and it worked with the USB 2.0 drives I had at the time, but as soon as I plugged in my new USB 3.0 drive into that port it fried.
The USB killer would be ideal for testing surge protectors that include surge protection for USB.
It is way easier (and cheaper) just short GND and 5V pins (big 1 & 4) from USB stick. It can be improved with an inductor so when the USB Port breaks the circuit the inductor shall discharge high voltage due to open, if the circuit does not open then the current itself shall burn everything in the path.

Maybe the PC side of the port could have low voltage MOV's accross each of the pins. Or maybe neon glow lamps to act as a gas discharge tube.
Most USB input circuits I've seen use optocouplers. This device would damage nothing beyond the optocouplers.
As someone who got zapped thrice by the flash of my old camera trying to repair the shutter, these things have a good punch!
Their rational is they want manufacturers to install protection circuits to prevent this but that doesn't make sense to me. This concept would work just as well on serial ports, HDMI, VGA, Thunderbolt etc. More over you can always just build a beefier circuit to overcome any manufacturer's protection circuit.
It does make sense, if you consider the sellers of these devices a kind of mafia. “That's a nice USB port you have there, it would be a shame if something would happen to it. We do happen to be selling special protection circuits…”
Alexander Thomas hey can y’all speak English?
Not necessarily, some very well built machines, like Macbooks prior to 2016, used optoisolators on the USB ports. Those are entirely resilient to pretty much any USB killer device that can be made.
