An interesting thing I recently realized about the horcruxes: The early ones would have less finesse than the later ones, as they were made when Riddle was less experienced, but they would also have more raw power, because each one would contain a larger fraction of his soul. That explains why the diary was more suited to use as a weapon than the later horcruxes, as half of Riddle's soul was attached to it, more than in all the other horcruxes combined.
@Saruzu assuming that a wizard could split his soul endlessly in this manner, it would be an impossibility for the wizards soul to split the same net amount each time. It would have to be halved and then half halved, and so on. Or a third or quarter or whatever it is. But definitely not a constant fixed amount, unless of course there was a limit.
@mike48931 That's not how the soul works. The metaphysics are confusing, but I'll explain it. The soul has no physical existence, for most people their soul is (only) tied to their body, when they die, their soul leaves their body and moves on to the afterlife. If someone explodes, being destroyed on the atomic level, their soul would still be intact. The soul is not physically present in the body, it just exists. Now with horcruxes this works differently, because the soul is not tied to one vessel. If you have a horcux you can repeatedly be killed without ever dying, as your soul is anchored to live by something else. The problem is that the terms used; 8 pieces of the soul, splitting your soul and repairing a soul; make it sound like the soul is a tangible thing, but it isn't. Harry believes that if Voldemort shows true remorse his soul can be repaired, even after all the horcruxes were destroyed.
@@usmanmajid7837 Maybe. I'm assuming if he learned that Voldemort had stayed alive after trying to kill Harry as a child, when everyone had thought he died, it was because he used Horcruxes.
I think it's very interesting that the majority of the horcruxes that were destroyed were done by Salazar Slytherin's precious basilisk venom. So he had a hand in killing his own heir!
He will be glad to kill the heir who is more like an Emo Lord than a Dark Lord. Who the heck store his soul for safekeeping in most obvious places? Once you get the theme that he stored them in his trophies its easy to guess that 3 of the 4 trophies of the Hogwarts will have it. For the snake, since she was always around him it was obvious, dairy was neat but he left it to some retard, and then came the ring and he left it to his ancestor house which was easy to track.
What I don’t like about the meeting between Slughorn and Tom Riddle when they discuss horcruxes is the way Slughorn never really does tell Riddle if making multiple horcurxes is possible. Instead, Slughorn just seems disgusted by the idea of committing so much murder and ripping the soul into 7 pieces. I don’t understand how Riddle got any useful information out of that meeting if he already knew what horcruxes were and how to make them.
He doesn’t really say, but I think his reaction confirmed to Voldemort that it was possible to split the soul into 7. Slug horn felt uncomfortable but if it wasn’t possible he’d probably try to explain why that couldn’t be done, however his reaction of disgust was proof to Voldemort that it was possible.
J.K. Rowling was really amazing. How she thought of this whole book with a detailed plot. And even after many years people are still interested in. The power of her brain gosh.
Words are the most valuable source of magic.. Endless, hurting or healing.. She wrote her thoughts, in words, on paper.. Creating a future for herself and everyone enjoying/working with her work.. Actors, producers, entertainment and wisdom in methapores for fans, make up artists, publishers, merchandise.. Words are proof that when you can imagine it in your head, you can hold it in your hand.. It truly is magic..
@@chanakyaverpula3546 you actually believe that? There’s no proof of that, she added that tidbit sometime around the “Dumbledore was gay the whole time” announcement.
Voldemort never intended his diary to be a weapon. Lucius Malfoy wanted to get it out of his mansion before the Ministry raided him and found him in possession of objects belonging / formerly belonging to Voldemort. Lucius also thought he could seriously discredit Arthur Weasley (who was heading the inspection) by planting the diary on Arthurs daughter. The diary was never meant to leave Lucius's safekeeping, and is why Voldemort went ballistic about it when he found out.
Unless I am mistaken, Voldemort did intend for the diary to pass on but Lucius was supposed to wait for his order but when Voldemort seemingly died and Lucius assumed he was gone, he gave the book to Ginny. This is what alerted Dumbledore on the possibility of multiple Horcruxes. If Voldemort was willing to use his Horcrux as a weapon then he must have others so that a loss of one would not be detrimental.
My thoughts exactly.. Burying them underground might have worked . Throwing em i the ocean on the otherhand might erode the objects and eventualy get destroyed. The protective spellss are only meant to work against humans.
Harry once asked Dumbledore how can he find horcruxes. And Dumbledore said that its a dark magic and it leaves traces. Therefore, it would be smarter if you put protections on them and hide them.
There are 7 horcruxes 7 books 7 movies ( deathly hallows counts as 1) 7 subjects harry takes in the movie 7 is the number of quiditch players on a team 7 is the number on Harry's Jersey in quiditch 7 snakes to the entrance of the chamber of secrets 7 DADA teachers 7weasley children 7 rocks on Tom Riddles window sill in the orphanage 7 years at Hogwarts 7 is the most powerful number in the magical world! :) the last book released on July 7 2007 (07.07.07) 7 secret passageways out of the castle
The first 2 are backwards. He didn't find out he was Slythrerines heir until he found out about his mother's family. He killed his father before Myrtle. He was wearing the ring when he asked Slughorn about making more than 1 horcrux.
@@serene9357 It's very easy - Dumbledore says he obtained the ring in his "sixteenth year." So his first year was when he was 0-12 months and his sixteenth was when he was 15. Before the Chamber of Secrets.
@@cityman2312 How can that be? Tom Riddle was born Dec 31, 1926. So, approximately enough, 1927 is his first year, and his sixteenth year is 1942. Any source says Myrtle Warren (diary) and Tom's father (ring) were killed in June and August of 1943 respectively, which would be in his seventeenth year. In any case, the order of the murders is clear, meaning OP is mistaken. And unless Tom made the horcruxes in a different order, it was the diary first and the ring second. However, it should technically be possible to make them out of order, since there’s evidence you don’t have to make them immediately after a murder. The murders of Myrtle Warren and Tom’s father happen in the months before Tom starts his sixth school year, which is when he has this conversation with Slughorn. Unless Tom knew all he wanted and was just out to shock Slughorn with his questions, he used the information he obtained to create horcruxes, long after those murders. Could be that he already knew about having a single horcrux, and was only really seeking info about _multiple_ horcruxes - the point still stands that you can do it after the fact.
I saw the first film in the theatres. I then went 18 years until I saw another film in the series. I eventually saw all the films around this past Christmas and I just finished reading the books yesterday matter of fact. It should have been a part of my childhood but I was never allowed to watch the movies.
Voldemort didn't put Ravenclaw's diadem on the bust of the warlock in the Room of Requirement. Harry did that in the sixth book to help mark the location where he hid the Half-Blood Prince's textbook inside the Room, unaware at the time that he had just stumbled upon one of Voldemort's horcruxes.
If he intended to use Harry’s murder to make his final horcrux, it’s possible that he started the ritual before going to Godric’s hollow and his soul splintered because he had “died” instead. His own “death” was what completed the horcrux ritual. I think it was a mix of his soul being unstable like Dumbledore said, and a the botched ritual.

The whole Harry/Ginny relationship is one-sided. He only met her briefly in Sorceror's Stone and he only rescued her in the Chamber of Secrets because she was Ron's sister. After that, Harry never paid any attention to Ginny for 3 more years until Half Blood Prince. All of a sudden, he's in love with her by then? That don't make any sense.
Would love a “what if” video of Ginny dying in the chamber of secrets and the “Tom Riddle Dairy” coming to life and getting a body. Has anyone every thought about that? What would happen? Wouldn’t there be 2 versions of Voldemort now? On top of that He was able to do magic with Harry’s wand. This is such a fascinating topic. He would’ve had a new soul by taking Ginny’s. So what would a new Voldemort do? A younger Tom Riddle version. Please cover this topic. Would love to hear your ideas on it. And maybe for plot sake, have Harry still survive the chamber of secrets and Riddle leave with his diary.
he could find LV and they make the world think Diary Tom has been battling the dark arts in other countries all this time and now with his popularity he could rise as the new Minister for Magic and LV would have a clear path to victory as Diary Tom would fake a heroic death weeks before and LV would rise
Actually, in the case of ravenclaw's diadem, he didn't put it on the statue of the warlock with a wig, Harry did. I think he was trying to mark the place where he left his potions textbook, so he made it as clear as possible to himself
I think the muggle tramp may be more significant than it first appears. I don't think it's a coincidence that Riddle chose to kill a muggle to defile Helgas cup. Helga was a strong advocate for opening hogwarts to anyone with the talent to learn magic, including muggleborns; it was this decision that led to slythern leaving hogwarts. It's possible that Riddle blamed hufflepuff for the decline of slytherns bloodline, and thus his own muggle parentage and time in the orphanage.
Helga Hufflepuff wasn't the only one who advocated for Muggle-Born Wizards and Muggle-Born Witches. So did Godric Gryffindor and even Rowena Ravenclaw went along with Gryffindor and Hufflepuff. Only Salazar Slytherin objected to the presence of Muggle-Born Wizards and Muggle-Born Witches, and he was outvoted three against one there.
Imagine if Voldemort just grabbed six random leaves in forest, made horcruxes of them and left them there lying under other tons of leaves. He would probably live forever.
@@gracie9658 Well I think that if you make a horcrux of a thing, it is almost indestructible and it is resistant against the nature elements. But yeah, stones would be probably better. Or just go in a desert and make a horcrux from six grains of sand.
Take a single grain of sand from a bunch of different oceans and deserts and just bury them as far as you can go. And maybe have monsters live there to defend them

Imagine if he threw a curveball and made random muggle items into horcruxes. A mailbox, a tire on a bicycle in China, a fish and chips menu in the UK, a Bible, someone's favorite shoes, and a US 1 cent coin. Not one darn person would find any of those, even with Harry's Horcrux Spider Sense
I'm curious why the movie makers changed Voldemort's death so much. The idea that his body was discarded like trash is much more satisfying than it being dissolved on the wind. Having left behind a body makes his death much more real, much more permanent. Evaporating like that, and knowing the the wizarding community's penchant for disbelieving Harry, it kind of leaves the door open to uncomfortable speculation.
Each horcrux was killed by a different person (in the books): Quirrell (if you consider him one) - Lily Tom's diary - Harry Guant ring - Dumbledor Slytherin locket - Ron Hufflepuff cup - Hermoine Ravenclaw diadem - (accidently) Crabb Harry - (unknowingly) Voldemort, himself Nagini - Neville
voldemort was so stupid when picking his Horcruxes and hiding them i mean he could have just picked some random rocks and chucked them into different oceans than they never would have been destroyed
Also, being a half-blood he could’ve took the diadem, entombed it in concrete, then sank it into the deepest part of the Atlantic Ocean. It’s what I would’ve done, if I was an evil witch.
Why didn’t Voldemort just get a painting of himself, like then he would be immortal. Same with Harry’s parents, could’ve talked to them if Dumbledore left a picture of them with Harry at the Dursley’s or something
the people in the portraits are not alive. They are a mere copy of their personality while they were alive. I think having a portrait of James and Lilly would have been more painful for Harry knowing that they are not his real parents.
I always thought photos in the HP universe were more like GIFs. They’re on a loop, not alive. Painted portraits seem to have more leeway and develop personality over time though from what I recall

@20:33 The reason this was changed from the books to the film is that the original actor for Crabbe, Jamie Wylett, had been arrested for drug possession and later served two years in prison.
“As we know, he failed. After an interval of some years, however, he used Nagini to kill an old Muggle man, and it might then have occurred to him to turn her into his last Horcrux

Poggies. Voldemort should've made something really big and important to a horcrux tho. Like the eiffel tower. Now imagine teenage harry approaching the tower with a sword in his hand and a mean look on his face.
it might also be that it HAS to be an object in their possession or that they can physically get a hold of. that would make more sense. like it can’t be buildings.
I would love to have a movie about voldemort it would be awesome. From his years at hogwarts and showing how he made the horcruxes and his life after hogwarts.

Now I can’t stop thinking about Tom Riddle as the defense against the dark arts teacher if Dumbledore didn’t refuse him a job at Hogwarts, that just sounds so ironic to have the greatest dark wizard teaching how to defend against his dark powers.
A Defense/Defence Against The Dark Arts teacher is only as good as his/her/their understanding of The Dark Arts and his/her/their willingness to go beyond theory and into practical applications against The Dark Arts. Remus Lupin, Barty Crouch, Jr. in his Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody disguise, Harry Potter in defiance of Dolores Jane Umbridge's crap, and Severus Snape were the best DADA teachers in the series. Quirinus Quirrell, Gilderoy Lockhart, Dolores Janes Umbridge, and The Carrow Siblings just plain sucked as DADA teachers. Albus Dumbledore probably had more than a few suspicions as to why Tom Marvolo Riddle wanted the job of DADA teacher, none of them good.
Though Voldermont loved trophies I don’t think he chose only the items for this reason solely, I believe they had special powers to not only protect his soul fragments but also to augment and enhance his magical abilities to extraordinary levels.
@@lyzzysan5601Especially since the effects of The Dark Arts make it impossible to reverse them. And Tom Marvolo Riddle befouled every single one of those items. Thank goodness Godric Gryffindor's Sword was imbued with the Basilisk's venom and never became a Horcrux.
20:32 There was ACTUALLY A REAL LIFE REASON WHY CRAB WASN'T THERE I think a lot of people know this story but the actor who played Crab in the movies, Jamie Waylett, was arrested for Selling and Growing Cannabis, Taking part in the August London riots, and apparently making Molotov's while looting a farm...Needless to say he was sent to prison.
20:01 When this scene came up in the movie I had thought, "If they're smart, they'll clear out it's entire mouth of its fangs so they'll have all kinds of ammo just in case".
only a true gryffindor can possess it and use it how they want.. as we know tom riddle had 0 connections to gryffindor and straight up disliked that house and its students
Someone pointed out there was a battle before Harry parent’s death with Voldemort that resulted in (I think a wesley’s) death. it was speculated that they had the sword and fought with it but the (weasley?) fought with and protected the sword so he was unable to get it.
I wonder if he intended to use Harry's death for the sword, as it was the heirloom to his rival house and Harry was supposed to be the only person to rival him as per the prophecy.
In the books it said that when voldemort went back to Hogwarts to ask Dumbledore for a job as a teacher, he had other plans than just looking for a job. One was to hide the diadem in the room of requirement and two, to find the sword of Gryffindor which he knew was at Hogwarts. Since Dumbledore didn't gave him the job, voldemort didn't get a chance to take the sword and make it into a horcrux.
Hope you guys enjoy the video! It was great having Dean on board to help narrate, and look out for me on his channel coming this week. We discuss all the 23 subjects at Hogwarts!
It made sense to me how, he wanted to make personal artifacts of the founders of Hogwarts into horcruxes. The reasons I thought that he didn't make The Sword of Griffindor into a horcrux were both personal and, inability to do so. For "personal": He probably detested the Griffindor house or Griffindor himself too much to want to make his sword into a horcrux. For "inability": It was because of the sword itself and how it works. The sword has that "it only takes in that which makes it stronger" condition. Imbuing it with Basilisk's venom gave it an added effect that didn't come with any weaknesses, a "strength" in other words. But that's the thing, being made into a horcrux may make an object indestructible to pretty much everything else but, "horcruxes are susceptible to and easily destroyed by Basilisk venom" it would seem. And THAT is a "weakness", not a "strength". So because the sword only takes in strengths and takes in no weaknesses, it literally just couldn't be made into a horcrux since that would have come with the weakness to Basilisk venom.
Plus, the sword presents itself to a true Gryffindor. It might have been difficult for him to obtain it, and it would easily be in possession of most people who are part of that house.
I feel like the depth at with Tom wanted to used the house items of Hogwarts (cup, circlet, and necklace) has to be more complex then '"it reminded him of home". I really liked the video!
It should be noted that another reason why Voldemort wanted a job at Hogwarts was to find the Sword of Gryffindor and make it into a Horcux. It would’ve completed the “set” of his Horcruxes made of relics of the Hogwarts Founders. However, Dumbledore was aware that Tom had ulterior motives for wanting the job. So Dumbledore refused him the job. Angry that he could not finish his set, he cursed the job which was the Defense Against the Dark Arts position, ironically. This explains why Voldemort never made an intentional Gryffindor related Horcrux. However, ironically, he did with Harry since Harry is a descendant of Godric Gryffindor, born in Godric’s Hallow, and was a true Gryffindor being sorted into the House and pulled Sword of Gryffindor out of the Sorting Hat.

Or Voldemort and the time he re-opened the chamber of secrets for the second movie
@@nealfirstofhisname you're absolutely right! Thanks for that explanation.
Regulus Black was the unsung hero of the Potter franchise.
True but they Harry and Dumbledore still had to go to the cave, and Dumbledore nearly died to get a fake.
So was Slughorn for giving up his memory!
@@usmanmajid7837 True but he kinda had to because he sort of caused the problem in the first place.
@@aaronheyman9115 Did he though? Did he actually know that Voldemort succeeded in creating all of his horcruxes?
Only Harry and the diadem wasnt
And also that it was the sword of Godric Gryffindor that was used to destroy most of the horcruxes!!

Actors, producers, entertainment and wisdom in methapores for fans, make up artists, publishers, merchandise.. Words are proof that when you can imagine it in your head, you can hold it in your hand.. It truly is magic..

@@One.Zero.One101 Nope, she planned the entire series before writing even the first book.
And now she's ruining harry potter on Twitter 😂
Thank you for this.
This video seems full of speculations. How do they even know who they killed to make a horcrux
The thing is that voldemort could have hid his horcruxes anywhere in the world or buried it underground or just chucked it down the ocean.
My thoughts exactly.. Burying them underground might have worked . Throwing em i the ocean on the otherhand might erode the objects and eventualy get destroyed. The protective spellss are only meant to work against humans.
Or made them a grain of sand
Harry once asked Dumbledore how can he find horcruxes. And Dumbledore said that its a dark magic and it leaves traces. Therefore, it would be smarter if you put protections on them and hide them.
Đỗ Đức Tài still what if he put mutiple fake holocruxes in the same cave of the real holocruxe, and make the real holocruxe a grain of sand.

The first 2 are backwards. He didn't find out he was Slythrerines heir until he found out about his mother's family. He killed his father before Myrtle. He was wearing the ring when he asked Slughorn about making more than 1 horcrux.
You can find the correct timeline on the Harry Potter Lexicon. Many fans mix up the first two, but you are correct -- the ring was first.
I don’t get it
Can he make hocruxes at his lesiure time?

Morgan's voice brings life to the video. : )
When you realize both Harry and Ginny were possessed by Voldemort You can see how Ginny was more connected to Harry and why they make a great couple.

Fair? :)
No, I think the unbodied older Voldemort would inhabit the new younger body. The two pieces of souls would merge into one.
And just think, that Voldemort would have been more sane and stable compared to the Voldemort that we saw from the ritual.
he could find LV and they make the world think Diary Tom has been battling the dark arts in other countries all this time and now with his popularity he could rise as the new Minister for Magic and LV would have a clear path to victory as Diary Tom would fake a heroic death weeks before and LV would rise
There's quite a few fanfics that take that idea and run with it, Tom was a good actor before he went batshit crazy so he could pull it off.
I always fantasize what would happen if it wasnt always like the way it is
Actually, in the case of ravenclaw's diadem, he didn't put it on the statue of the warlock with a wig, Harry did.
That is a brilliant connection and makes sense because he has an awful view upon muggleborns
Helga Hufflepuff wasn't the only one who advocated for Muggle-Born Wizards and Muggle-Born Witches. So did Godric Gryffindor and even Rowena Ravenclaw went along with Gryffindor and Hufflepuff.
Only Salazar Slytherin objected to the presence of Muggle-Born Wizards and Muggle-Born Witches, and he was outvoted three against one there.
mannn, harry potter folklore must be having the time of his life, like a dream coming true
it just baffling how much of the story the movies left out, it makes so much sense after reading the book.
Imagine if Voldemort just grabbed six random leaves in forest, made horcruxes of them and left them there lying under other tons of leaves. He would probably live forever.
The leaves would have decayed and died. He should have used stones and thrown them in the ocean.
@@gracie9658 Well I think that if you make a horcrux of a thing, it is almost indestructible and it is resistant against the nature elements. But yeah, stones would be probably better. Or just go in a desert and make a horcrux from six grains of sand.
@@retryoxx8340 harry would feel them
Take a single grain of sand from a bunch of different oceans and deserts and just bury them as far as you can go. And maybe have monsters live there to defend them
@@birdbrain6503 I think monsters would be useless. It's better to just bury them with nothing so no one would ever suspect anything.
This was one of the best podcast you’ve done, I love the fact that it was the both of you together. I’ve been a Harry Potter fan since the books came out and I love these synopsis video essays that you guys do. It’s great
Imagine if he threw a curveball and made random muggle items into horcruxes. A mailbox, a tire on a bicycle in China, a fish and chips menu in the UK, a Bible, someone's favorite shoes, and a US 1 cent coin. Not one darn person would find any of those, even with Harry's Horcrux Spider Sense
he would have thought those items not worthy of his soul
That was one of his main failings. His obsession with the grandiose. A smart voldemort doesn't make famous objects horcruxes
No body means no opportunity for another resurrection for Lord Voldemort.
@@thecajunphoenix But he didn't leave a body when Lily's protection spell stopped Riddle in Godric's Hollow. And he did come back from that.

True but I don’t think it really works that way. He would still be dead just a painting of him that isn’t truly him.

Now I can’t stop thinking about Tom Riddle as the defense against the dark arts teacher if Dumbledore didn’t refuse him a job at Hogwarts, that just sounds so ironic to have the greatest dark wizard teaching how to defend against his dark powers.

Why didn’t he find Godric Gryffindors’s sword, so he could get all four of the heirlooms.
when the readers first found out about the sword, it came from the sorting hat so i assume that only a true griffindor get it
only a true gryffindor can possess it and use it how they want.. as we know tom riddle had 0 connections to gryffindor and straight up disliked that house and its students

I really loved how Neville Longbottom pulled off a Scott-Pilgrim-finisher-move 😂
K...... O.......!
@@ariesearthdragon Good point. The sword could keep disappearing right in front of him and, keep showing up in the hands of a Griffindor.

Lol a Death Eater's son literally destroyed one of Voldemort's horcruxes
