  • Tititea / Mt Aspiring in a single push. What a day!
We started at Raspberry Flat just before 6am, and finished at 11:30pm on January 5th 2025. Total time (car to car): 17h35min. Whilst we won’t be breaking any speed records, I’m stoked with this time. Especially given my my first trip up Tititea took four days.
We cycled in to Aspiring Hut, ran/walked up to Bevan Col where we transitioned to our TX4s for the upcoming snow & scrambling sections. Our route went up Shipowner Ridge, and descended the Kangaroo Path after the sun had softened it.
We found ourselves off-route on the buttress and had some medium-spicy scrambling to get back on track. Lot’s of exposure, a few cruxy moves, and the constant wind gusts that hammered the ridge took a toll. But once up on the summit, it was calm, sunny, and the perfect place to melt snow & chow down a stroopwafel.
Overall, it was a fantastic day in the hills with Kaleb. Lots of learnings on route finding, pacing, and equipment. I’m sure we’ll be back again.
Disclaimer: please don’t attempt this route unless you are experienced with glacier travel and alpine rock. Travelling unroped on glaciated terrain is hazardous, especially if the glacier is still wet. I highly recommend doing this route over a few days before attempting a single-day push. Whilst we went light&fast, we still carried a bothie bag, first aid kit, emergency warm layers, and one PLB each. Stay safe out there.
