I worked at the Aloha Stadium when it first opened its doors to the public. It is so, so sad that the State let this happen. I will miss the stadium as well as the people I met and worked with there.
It is very sad to lose a place that you loved. I was never there but it looked like a fun place to be. With respect from an OSU Beaver ('74) and hope for your future.
And NCAA says UH football needs at least a 15,000 seat facility to maintain FBS status. I guess that leaves War Memorial Stadium in Maui or Las Vegas. Yikes.
It benifits the NCAA to grant a waiver for that rule knowing the circumstances. In fact if the arena is part of rebuild throw the NCAA a bone as far as hosting a regional during March madness
@Rodney Jerry I agree 100% . Hawaii has to shed it's political image. It's no longer good enough to leverage the weather and beach. People wanna be more than entertained. It's about experience. Guarantee if a state of the art stadium and arena along with entertainment complex gets built hawaii will be on another level. Get in the game
Just heard today that Aloha stadium is being torn down for a new and larger sports complex. I was stationed at Pearl Harbor and enjoyed going to the flee market there. I also would visit on vacations there after I left the island. I am getting quite old and it is so sad to see so many people I have known and so many places I have been to, leave us or be torn down.
im not leaving in us or hawaii but im a stadium fan and never understand 1st why not renovate the stadium like many stadium in the other states or europe 2nd why the new stadium is only beetween 30000 to 40000 ???
Listen all this consternation is laughed at in big cities on the mainland. This is what happens when you kick the can down the road . The government owes hawaii a favor so politic for it. Better shut it down now rather than people dying at an event then go through the embarrassment and who is responsible etc. Have this thing shovel ready and by 2024 it will all be worth it.
The engineers, especially the metallurgist that built it in the '70s are at fault. Thinking that steel in a salty air environment would only have an outer patina of rust was a silly decision. Steel in these conditions needs to be continuously painted to protect from corrosion.
It was mismanaged - events held there were done with cringe worthy supervision- no fan experience - and whether it was maintenance or amenities - they always took the cheap way out! Thats what you get when friends of political friends get appointed to head these positions- epic failure.
Your senator knew it would happen, that is why he was not there during the vote. All to keep him look like the good guy. Stop falling for your representatives from telling you lies..
The Rail project to no where was more important it wasn’t because of the pandemic.... follow the money. IF and WHEN a new stadium is built it’s going to have less seats and will be smaller

I went to Hawaii back in 2004. I saw Aloha Stadium up close and was in awe.

Go for it in maui war Memorial Stadium.
It's scary! I found a huge screw on the ground last time I was there. Looked like it fell from a rusted spot.
That is not right! I feel bad for the UH Football Team and the fans 😢 Hang in there, Hope the city finds a way to keep the team alive.

How can they build a new Stadium when the state has financial downfall
And everything in Hawaii takes double the time and double the cost to build anything!
Where is the Money coming from for this New Stadium during this Economic Slowdown???

Once again state and government let us the people down. So sad.
Wow. I haven't seen Joe Moore in 30 years. How the hell can he still look and sound the same?

The Pro Bowl and it's seating requirements are gone One off events that happen once a decade like Bruno Mars aren't worth it to build something so big
Ohhhhhhhhh
So that’s why the pro bowl isn’t there anymore
God will find a way to build one amazing new Aloha Stadium god is good.believe
Send the players to play at war Memorial stadium!! The maui fans will love it...go warriors!!!
@Banned Me its not underwater...its useable now.
I thought rust made it stronger! Tear it down and build in Kapolei!
Hawaii doesn't need a football team anyways. 😆
Hawaii is really going in the shitter. Sad.
Indoor stadium is coming
