Yes, music like a crystal clear brook. Usually when Morricone featured a female vocalist doing a la-la-la lullaby, the rest of the score would offer ominous sounds, violin shrieks, wailing trumpets, thumping percussion to 'impersonate' the heart beats of a woman in peril. Giallo. 1971's Veruschka is not a thriller/horror flic, though, but a documentary about then supermodel Veruschka. A psychedelic photo series Franco Rubartelli took of her is still stunning, not dated at all. (she may be, a little bit :--) Morricone's main "gimmick" here was giving series of struck chords a lovely echo. I don't know what instrument this is, a harp I guess. He used the effect also in other films, like I Bambini Ci Chiedono Perche', and part of these tracks resurfaced again in the Jean Paul Belmondo actioner The Professional. But in Veruschka the harp, or whatever it is, creates a truly magical atmosphere. Not to forget the wonderfully clear, ultra-feminine voice of Edda dell' Orso. 1970-1975 (ca) was the maestro's most inventive era. Very poppy, too "The Best Composer Ever; hard to deny, but he certainly was the most versatile one. He could play with music and instruments and voices like no one else.
