My honest opinion is that they could have been a really good couple, I really think Héctor was better for Joel than Ivan honestly. Idk I just notice than Joel and Héctor had more chemistry than Joel and Ivan
Its true!! They had way more chemistry even if at first hector didnt want joel but he eventually fell inlove with him because at the end, the way he cried and layed in the couch where him and joel were last together honestly hurt. If anything ivan was better with patrick than joel.
Spoiler . . . Sorry but Omar is the one who got him killed. Hector was obsessed with Joel, but he didn't want him to get exploited by the alumni. Unfortunately Omar stopped him from breaking into the room and interfere the scene. Joel could've been saved if Hector had stepped in by the right time, but Omar kicked him (Hector) out of the club.

Joel had everything going on for him, Firstly, Omar helped him out then Ivan and even Hector somehow wanted to protect him from the bad. Guess, Joel just couldn't decide well and was unnecessarily ruining his life which nobody forced him to. Sad ending for him.
