One of my favorite funny moments in this movie: Egon: Well, let’s say this Twinkie represents the normal amount of psychokinetic energy in the New York area. According to this morning’s sample, it would be a Twinkie…35 feet long weighing approximately 600 pounds. Ray coughs in surprise- Winston: That's a BIG Twinkie 😂😂
The early university external shots are Columbia University. The apartment building (exterior shots, at least) is 55 Central Park West (the altar to Gozer on the top is a set), across from Tavern on the Green in Central Park (where the restaurant scene was shot, with Debbie Gibson as the birthday girl). Interiors are sets. I looked up the building, and they don't rent (maybe someone sublets). The lowest price unit I've seen is $1m. The fire house exterior is an active fire house on Moore and Varick. The library shots (upper floor and exteriors) are the main branch of the New York Public Library (42nd and 5th). The basement shots are the Central Library in Los Angeles. The hotel was shot in LA at the Millennium Biltmore.
"The Key-master" that keeps getting locked out of his Apartment! Rick Moranis WAS "Seymour". Dana (Sigourney Weaver) was "Ripley" in the "Alien" Movies!
PG in the 80s still stood for Parental Guidance. Modern PG just means babysitter for your infant/toddler. Notice how every time Peter shocks his volunteer, he gets more accurate in his guesses. He might actually have latent psychic abilities and Peter's theory is actually correct. 😆As off-putting as his persona is, he does have some scruples. Ultimately, he's a decent guy when it counts. But hey, that's the joke. He's kind of a fraud that falls backwards into being legit. Winston always was my favorite Ghostbuster, right next to Egon. There are some theories in paranormal studies that relate to the correlation of mental states/hormones like puberty and psychic/spiritual phenomena. So besides just being a joke, Peter's question about menstruation isn't entirely uncalled for. The fact that he's the one asking, though, since he clearly thinks of his profession as a joke just makes his demeanor amusing. The proton packs (nuclear accelerators) concentrate positively charged particles into a narrow beam through the neutrona wand/particle thrower that directly counteracts the negative energy produced by ghosts. It holds them in place because positive and negative charges attract each other. Believe it or not, there's some actual science behind their equipment, though of course the functionality is pure science-fiction/fantasy/paranormal-based. The ghost BJ was based on a story one of Dan Aykroyd's friends/family told him supposedly happened for real. In the original script it did happen for real, while they were staying in a haunted house on a case. Later revisions demoted the scene to a joke in a dream. Notice the location of the stairs that lead to the roof. Right behind where Dana's fridge was. "Choose AND perish." Gozer is an inter-dimensional being (god) from at least 6,000 B.C. When Gozer moves between worlds, it has to take a new form. That form was the one previously used in the dimension it just came from, so it de-materialized until Ray chose its new Destructor form. Basically, crossing the streams caused enough of an energy back-draft that it forced Gozer's dimensional door shut. An implosion of sorts. The song was made for the movie, however, the movie was originally based on a 70s vaudeville-style (think The 3 Stooges or Abbot and Costello) TV show starring Larry Storch of F-Troop fame. The movie is VASTLY different, though. Because of the legal issues surrounding the use of the name, however, Filmation got to make their own animated series called Ghost Busters in the 80s around the same time that DiC was making their own series, known as The Real Ghostbusters. This whole soundtrack is awesome. Ghostbusters 2 and Afterlife are really damn good. Though neither lives up to the original, but that doesn't mean they're bad by any means. I heard some iffy stuff about Frozen Empire so didn't see that one. As for the 2016 remake...the less said about it the better. Just avoid that. It's not worth the 2 hours of your life. The Real Ghostbusters series from the 80s is a lot of fun, though! And I have a soft spot for the Filmation Ghost Busters cartoon as well. :)
It is Bill Murray, from Saturday Night Live, from lots of movies (Groundhog Day, Stripes, a lot of Wes Anderson films, Lost in Translation, Caddyshack, Tootsie, The Razor’s Edge,…)
This film's success soon afterwards led to the creation of an animated TV programme called _The Real Ghostbusters,_ which began in 1986 and continued the escapades of Dr Peter Venkman, Dr. Egon Spengler, Dr Ray Stantz and Winston Zeddemore. Also coming back in this series were Janine Melnitz and the green ghost from the hotel in this 1984 film, who had now been given the name Slimer. By this point the latter was no longer a threat and in some cases his being a ghost came to be very useful in some episodes. The show continued to use Ray Parker Jr's _Ghostbusters_ song as the theme tune, while "The Real" was added to the title to get around issues with Filmation, who just happened to have their own series called _Ghost Busters_ that had started roughly a decade earlier, but is unrelated other than having a very similar title. The first two series of _The Real Ghostbusters_ turned out to be really good, then interference plagued the show, causing a major writer to quit in disgust at the changes being made, so the quality noticeably suffered from the third series onwards.
Yes, Filmatiom decided to create a cartoon of their version that aired in syndication during weekday afternoons premiereing the same week as The Real Ghostbusters which aired on ABC Saturday mornings, then when the Filmation series was cancelled, The Real Ghostbusters took over its weekday afternoon slot while still keeping its Saturday morning slot on ABC which meant for its second season it aired six days a week, so even when it went downhill quality wise, it was ultimately only a minor fraction of the show’s run
"Negative reinforcement... Okay, I honestly don't understand, but I guess we'll get there." In psychology, at its most basic level, there are two generally-accepted methods for behavior modification. One is by rewarding (reinforcing) a desirable behavior, while the other is through punishment of undesirable behavior. Each of these can be accomplished by adding (positive) or removing (negative) something that provides the incentive for change. Supposedly, Dr. Venkman is testing how pain through electric shock affects the ability to predict the cards' outcome without seeing them. He refers to this as "negative reinforcement" when what he actually means is a positive punishment. Because it's adding a stimulus (the shock) to disincentivize the undesired behavior (incorrect predictions). A negative reinforcement is removing something the subject doesn't like, in order to encourage a desirable behavior. An example would be, "If you finish your homework before dinner, you don't have to do the dishes." This is because the behavior (doing homework) is reinforced through removing something as a reward (not doing the dishes). I'd expect a PhD in psychology to know the difference, but it doesn't really matter. Because Dr. Venkman isn't really doing any science at all. He's just trying to chase the guy off while building a rapport with the young lady.
When it comes to the _Ghostbusters_ song, the film-makers did later admit to using a song called _I Want A New Drug_ by the band Huey Lewis and The News solely as temporary background music. When the band were asked to write the main theme tune they turned down the offer, so Ray Parker Jr wrote and performed the song that we now know today. Huey Lewis, soon after the film's release, sued Ray claiming that _Ghostbusters_ sounds too much like the aforementioned _I Want A New Drug._ The case was settled out of court a year later.
Not the *whole* song admittedly; the instrumental in the verses of _Ghostbusters_ and the guitar and bass riffs in the verses of _I Want A New Drug_ are where the similarities lie that led to the court case.
@@Texy88 As a professional musician, who plays by ear, I understand it’s the main riff. That’s what I was referring to. The final product doesn’t sound similar enough that it comes off as a blatant rip off. Besides the 7 notes the songs never really reminded me of each other. I’ve definitely heard far more obvious copy pasting.
The beautiful music (apart from the song) is thanks to the great Elmer Bernstein, who wrote the score. Even without seeing the movies, you've probably heard his famous themes from The Magnificent Seven and The Great Escape. He scored classics like True Grit and To Kill a Mockingbird, but was also comfortable doing comedies and weird stuff like Animal House and Heavy Metal.
People nowadays really need to watch more ghost movies, if they don't even know what Ectoplasma is. Also, imagine being the manager of an expensive hotel and being called a butler. XD
The movie came before the song. I worked in a movie theater the summer it came out so I got to see the it whenever I wanted to. Later on I met Sigourney Weaver at a play reading on worked background on ANALYZE THAT and got to work with Harold Ramos. They were both very nice.
1984 I was around 11. I saw this in theater, laughed so hard and was so scared but couldn't stop watching. I even saw nightmares of this. But few days later I was back in theater and watched it again. And next weekend 😂
One thing to remember. This movie was made back in the early 80's. Things were a bit different back then. The PG-13 movie rating was first introduced at the beginning of July in 1984 and Ghostbusters was released a month before that, beginning of June 1984. If Ghostbusters was released a month later then it was then it more than likely would have a PG-13 rating.
In fairness to you not knowing right away that the movie was in NYC. I don't know if I'd recognise 40 year old footage of the city where I've lived all my life either! Haha
I agree with at the 16:20 mark, it’s not appropriate for kids. I will admit as a kid before knowing it as an adult, I thought she was taking his pants off because she wants him to feel the pants free experience in his underwear because she is a fan of underwear and if she talked she would say:Undies Rule! Instead of calling her the Dream Ghost she’s the Undie Ghost
PG has never meant "kids movie" even after PG-13 was created. Meanwhile, at the time Ghostbusters came out, the G-rating didn't even mean exclusively "kids movie", it just meant there was no objectionable content in said movie. You know what was also Rated-G? 2001: A Space Odyssey, Planet of the Apes (and its sequel), The Andromeda Strain, Star Trek the Motion Picture, Gone With the Wind, and Airport. Now people today call PG-13 movies "kids movies" which is absurd.

2:43 yes it is common for a subject in a psych study to get paid $5 as a service fee for their time. Back in fall of 1996 when I was in a psych class, we had to "volunteer" for the psych majors doing studies. Hey at least got paid $5 for it. Another good movie with both Bill Murray (Venkman) and Harold Ramis (Egon) is Stripes (1981). BM has the same he thinks is the "biggest stud" type of character in that as well. He plays that character type well.
A great reaction to a great film. Ghostbusters is a classic that brilliantly blends horror, comedy, and science fiction. There is a Ghostbusters 2, which I would also recommend. This is a great movie! However, the PG-13 rating didn't come out until July 1, 1984, and this movie came out on June 8, 1984. That is why you heard some things in this movie you wouldn't hear in a PG rated movie today. Just some food for thought. Also, you are so relateable, Erin! I'm glad you enjoyed this movie!

Tom Hanks was still mostly known as a TV actor in 1984, though he had done a made-for-TV movie called Mazes and Monsters and a horror film called He Knows You're Alone before then. His comedy film breakout, however, did hit that year. It's called Bachelor Party and is worth a watch if you're only familiar with his more serious work.

"Negative reinforcement... Okay, I honestly don't understand, but I guess we'll get there."
In psychology, at its most basic level, there are two generally-accepted methods for behavior modification.
The campus in the film is Columbia University.
0:36 I’ve been around the lions outside the NY Public Library many times and I assure you they almost never come to life and eat a tourist.
Definitely check out all the Ghostbusters movies, awesome 😎😎
I came here because Jen made me. I’m sticking around as this is my kind of content. Great stuff.
😂👍
Nicely done, Erin. Checking you out per Jen Murray's recommendation.
Appreciated, thank you!
I like how Slimer plays a prominent part in your thumbnail.
Can't forget Slimer! :)
Yes. There is a Ghostbusters II
His name is Peter Venkman
Tom Hanks was still mostly known as a TV actor in 1984, though he had done a made-for-TV movie called Mazes and Monsters and a horror film called He Knows You're Alone before then. His comedy film breakout, however, did hit that year. It's called Bachelor Party and is worth a watch if you're only familiar with his more serious work.
Interesting he was mostly known for tv back then!
Okay ✨expanding✨
🤞🤞
Great react! Ghostbuster 2. and Ghostbusters Afterlife and Ghostbusters frozen empire.....are waiting for you
Continue with Ghostbuster 2. and Ghostbusters Afterlife. Ghostbusters Answer the Call (2016) does not have any of the main characters.
Imho the only redeeming quality about the 2016 version was Melissa McCarthy. Definitely the weakest in the franchise. Just my 2 cents
Looking forward to your journey. May I ask why u haven't seen many movies?
Anyone going to tell her that she's been witnessing the lore?
Jen recommended your channel so I had to check it out. This was a great reaction, you got yourself a new subscriber and looking forward to checking out all the other reaction videos as well.

This is New York City. I think they were at NYU.
You need to react to the conjuring 1 and 2, we like to watch women react to scary movies that can't handle scary movies!! It makes for great content.
omg yessssss erin!!!!
There was a cartoon, which was awesome, and the green Slimer ghost becomes their friend/teammate/mascot.
Great reaction 😊 You now have another subscriber, and I hope you get to monetization fast.
Thank you! Happy to have you! :)
@@OKPressPlayReacts You are very welcome, and you deserve the thanks for creating great work 😊 So far I've watched this reaction and the one you on Shawshank Redemption (one of my top favorite movies), and both videos have been great.

ghostbusters is more of a comedy if anything so no worries there
Why did you cut almost all of the jokes?
Venkman isnt a creep, he is just a cool regular guy from the 80s
9:53 so you don’t like Tom hanks, or…?!
36:00 yes there is a part 2 and Veinkman’s apartment is dope
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Well, it's New York oops 😊

You’re my new favorite RUclips reactor type person. Subscribing from NM ✌️❤
Tom hanks not being a ghostbuster is a missed opportunity.
Wait, that wasn’t him? 😂 (jk…….)
Great reaction to an absolute classic movie, next is definitely Ghostbusters 2. You are truly a gorgeous girl by the way and I love your personality, so bubbly ❤️❤️❤️
