    For marathon kayaking, instead of using a swivel seat we like to put a plastic grocery bag or two on your seat. The two halves of the plastic bag slide over each other and help you get a good rotation.

      @@Beyondthebackyard-au one thing that i personally do is putting a grocery bag on some soft-ish foam that is cut to the size of my seat and then twisting on that. It helps with the butt pain from sitting down for that long on a hard seat as well as helping you twist easier

    Whats the best technique if you are not useing a swivel seat are you still trying to create some sort of leg drive based on your rotation

  • @levibroghain6738

    I know I’m a decade late, but anyone still around to advise how to go about your paddling when you have no footboard?

  • @noanykey
    @noanykey 12 лет назад

    Your try to create some rotation based on your leg drive. Leg drive is there to drive off in order to get an effective body twist going. The swivel seat isnt essential it is only there to get more body twist going, in fact i only know of two people at my club who use one.

    Great instructional video ladies and gentlemen. Our team paddle in Sydney's Middle Harbour and we routinely see very poor technique. it doesn't take much too get the fundamentals of paddling down pat! Regards NOVOGLAN Team.

    Remember the more muscles you used per stroke; the more energy you burn up. I use an anchor and push method and switch to a shallow wide full stroke . I keep the paddle in the water propellingbthe kayak as long as it is comfortable and natural feeling.
    I can paddle 8 hours hard using my technique and I’m 66 and just started this activity.
    Following old school directives doesn’t mean it’s effective or conserving energy per stroke.
    Think shark; they move in the most efficient manner and swim their whole lives.
    If I’m not using all these muscles and still propelling myself through the water at a fast rate for a longer period; I’d say it’s worth some study.

    I'm confused slightly as I have been watching a lot of Oscar Chaluosky video sand he constantly comments that you spear the paddle in and not bring it down and that the arm stays straight until bringing the paddle out, unlike your demo where her arm is bent on the power stroke.

    • @Lehmann108
      @Lehmann108 4 года назад +2

      My background is in outrigger canoe and dragon boat racing. The catch they show here is technically not very good because the blade enters only at the tip and then as it is pulled through the water it is fully engaged. This causes cavitation (the swirl of bubbles around a moving paddle because of trapped air) which loses power in the stroke. A good paddle stroke has zero cavitation. The stabbing catch that you mention will cause zero or very little cavitation.

  • @evanshaw17
    @evanshaw17 Год назад

    Paddler upper arm and hand too high. This reduces length of most efficient and effective stroke. Paddle starts wrong ie pushing down on water. At exit pulling up on water. There is too much pulling with small muscles of arms instead of leg drive then torso and then pushing. Pulling is weak vs pushing think of a javelin or shot putter. Tension up thru feet hip torso then release and push
