For marathon kayaking, instead of using a swivel seat we like to put a plastic grocery bag or two on your seat. The two halves of the plastic bag slide over each other and help you get a good rotation.
@@Beyondthebackyard-au one thing that i personally do is putting a grocery bag on some soft-ish foam that is cut to the size of my seat and then twisting on that. It helps with the butt pain from sitting down for that long on a hard seat as well as helping you twist easier

Your try to create some rotation based on your leg drive. Leg drive is there to drive off in order to get an effective body twist going. The swivel seat isnt essential it is only there to get more body twist going, in fact i only know of two people at my club who use one.
My friend has won two back to back races and wants me to join, both races over 17 miles he clearly knows what he’s doing I may join next season because it’s getting cold so the season is almost over
Great instructional video ladies and gentlemen. Our team paddle in Sydney's Middle Harbour and we routinely see very poor technique. it doesn't take much too get the fundamentals of paddling down pat! Regards NOVOGLAN Team.
Remember the more muscles you used per stroke; the more energy you burn up. I use an anchor and push method and switch to a shallow wide full stroke . I keep the paddle in the water propellingbthe kayak as long as it is comfortable and natural feeling. I can paddle 8 hours hard using my technique and I’m 66 and just started this activity. Following old school directives doesn’t mean it’s effective or conserving energy per stroke. Think shark; they move in the most efficient manner and swim their whole lives. If I’m not using all these muscles and still propelling myself through the water at a fast rate for a longer period; I’d say it’s worth some study.
I'm confused slightly as I have been watching a lot of Oscar Chaluosky video sand he constantly comments that you spear the paddle in and not bring it down and that the arm stays straight until bringing the paddle out, unlike your demo where her arm is bent on the power stroke.
My background is in outrigger canoe and dragon boat racing. The catch they show here is technically not very good because the blade enters only at the tip and then as it is pulled through the water it is fully engaged. This causes cavitation (the swirl of bubbles around a moving paddle because of trapped air) which loses power in the stroke. A good paddle stroke has zero cavitation. The stabbing catch that you mention will cause zero or very little cavitation.
Paddler upper arm and hand too high. This reduces length of most efficient and effective stroke. Paddle starts wrong ie pushing down on water. At exit pulling up on water. There is too much pulling with small muscles of arms instead of leg drive then torso and then pushing. Pulling is weak vs pushing think of a javelin or shot putter. Tension up thru feet hip torso then release and push

Paul Tomblin ohh that’s why my coach did that. I thought he wanted to protect it or something haha.
Fantastic tip, I will give that a try

The bag idea works well in a surf ski seat
Ohh what a money saver... life hack of the year👏
Great video. Makes sense. The hard part is doing it.
so many things to think of with paddling technique!
Its only to find into your natural body movement laws ;-)
Good visualization, thanks, really love the girl faking the bad technique, very helpful
Was she really faking?!?!?!?
Thanks for the video. Now i know i paddle like shit and have a lot to improve.
I was thinking the same thing 😂
Great video! Please do one for C1!
did you ever find one? I've tried, only find dry-land discussions, no actual c1 at all... even just side-view video without analysis
BEST MOVIE , THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Excellent video 👌
Very useful information

Whats the best technique if you are not useing a swivel seat are you still trying to create some sort of leg drive based on your rotation
I know I’m a decade late, but anyone still around to advise how to go about your paddling when you have no footboard?

Good stuff guys! Thanks.
Fantastic video thanks...
By any chance, would someone know where to find the full video ? It seems to be part of a dvd or something like that.
love it!

Wow...I thought it was enough to put my paddle into the water and pull it out.

I'm calling bs. 8 hours straight of hard rowing? Lmao in your dreams
Where can I purchase the swivel seat she is using?
it's about kayaking, not canoeing
The sport is still called "Canoe Sprint" even for the kayak events
@@mikegaskin5542 canoe sprint is still called "sport". Why not to call the video like just: Stroke & body technique module of sport?
Kayak good
Great info but main thing is supposed to be fun
Now my sister doesn’t stand a chance
I can push the paddle 8 hours vs 4 by pulling.
2:59 what is that on seat?
Łukasz Grzelak - it looks like a piece of yoga mat.
なまめかしいなw
how is this a canoe?
How are you a person?
Don't bend your armsuse your legs to rotate around
Co ma jedno z drugim do czynienia.? Musisz ramie zginac, innaczej wioslujesz za daleko od kajaka
