It's just like how everyone thought beanie babies were going to be worth something these days and most of them are not. Everything eventually has a phase that ends and they just simply aren't as popular anymore and at that point it becomes a niche type of deal and people just want to get rid of what they have throwing a lot of them on the market. I know that my Funko collecting phase ended in 2018 and I haven't gotten any since. When I was actively collecting, there were ones that I had that were worth $500 and now they're not worth that anymore. Provided I was buying them to collect them and not to potentially resell them so the fact that they've lost value doesn't necessarily matter to me but when you buy these boxes with the intent to resell then yeah you probably should open them when their packaged because he would have gotten the most money out of it but he can still resell them even though he won't make back what he paid for it
@dustercat21 beanie babies were the disney vhs of that time. Something that was priced at high because people thought they were rare when value is retail or less. Funkos are no different then every toy collectible. Some will be worth less then retail others worth more. Prices will inevitably fluctuateimmensely
