    Cannot believe the author is also the voice actress here. Sheer cluster of talent! This is exactly how I always imagined classic Lara Croft would/should sound. There's quite a bit of Keeley Hawes in your voice (massive compliment as she's the best VA to ever voice Lara in a game), but you still manage to make it your own interpretation of the character, and you're just as successful as she was in bringing the character to life. Wow! And she can write, too! Never was a fan of AoD, but your writing has me absolutely hooked. Exactly what I was looking for to keep me entertained while I pull yet another all-nighter, and before finally getting around to playing Rise of the Tomb Raider over the holidays. It's quite astounding how brilliantly the whole package comes together; your voice work and writing, the other voice actor, and the fantastic sound design. It's so professionally done I actually searched on iTunes and Audible to see if I could purchase the audio book from there, thinking the videos on here were just a collection of preview chapters for the whole thing. Reading the description, though, I suppose this is still being worked on? Would definitely be happy to buy a copy once the remaining parts have been recorded. Anyway, kudos and hats off to you and the team behind this. Enough with the rambling, need to get back to work. I had to leave a comment, though, because this is absolutely incredible!!

      Hi Marlow. Wow, such awesome feedback makes it a pleasure to turn my computer on in the morning! Thank you so, so much for taking the time to leave such positive comments. I've been voice acting as Lara (and other cameos) for the Tomb Raider fan community for over ten years, but this is by far the most ambitious project to date. It's a joy and a privilege to produce these works - even more so when they're so well-received! I#ll definitely pass on your feedback to Adamm, too :-)
      The audiobook is also available on iTunes as a free podcast (either search the store or follow the link: apple.co/2eqrpfU). It's also on SoundCloud, and available to listen and subscribe via RSS feed on my website (link in the description). I'll put this information in all descriptions from hereon :-)
      Again, thanks so much for enjoying it and for taking the time and effort to leave feedback. The audiobook is still a WIP, with episode 04 currently in-progress, so watch this space!
      Happy daze - Jenni

      Jenni, thanks for taking the time to reply, and yes, please do pass on my compliments and adoration to Adamm, he's very talented, and pulls off some very convincing accents. I'm always surprised to learn at the end of each chapter that it's just you two doing all the characters' voices, both of you doing multiple characters, when I'm constantly telling myself "No, that must be someone new, they sound so different". Bravo! I'm subscribed to the podcast version, and every time a new chapter releases I start over from the beginning. It's a treat, even on my 7th repeat-listen.
      I know you're releasing these for free, and you sound like you really enjoy the whole creative process behind this project, but I still can't shake this feeling that media of such high quality and caliber should not be enjoyed without giving back to the talent behind it. Like, 99% of the audio books I pay for aren't nearly as well nor as thoughtfully produced. So, if you ever decide to sell this or run a donation drive or anything, please do let us know.
      Part 4 was fantastic, btw. I'm about to start my 8th repeat listen later this evening when I take my dog for a walk. Cannot wait. As I'm not in London atm, I'm currently getting my Brit-fix from listening to your voice haha (coupled with weekend Peep Show binges). :-)

      It is extremely kind of you to offer and suggest funding options of some kind. Unfortunately, because I don't own the copyrights to the franchise, I'm not allowed to monetise this in any way (cupcakes and catnip donations, however... ;) ) It's enough that it brings joy in both the making and listening - and also gives a great way to practise script-writing, vocal performances, audio production and editing techniques, publication methods, website maintenance, and the like. I'd written quite a few short stories and a novella prior to this, but writing the novel was an eye-opening and joyous experience. Now I have the thrill of translating the written prose into this new medium. It's a huge challenge, but that's part of why I'm enjoying it so much! xD When Peter Connelly and Meagan Marie (senior community manager) gave me the green light to use the official score and SFX, I knew the rest would, if not fall into place, at least have the authenticity and atmosphere that was a cornerstone of the source material. To hear from others who are also getting a kick from it is so fulfilling :-D And watch this space... Santa's going to be here soon ;-)

      What can I say? The Parisians were all on edge times eleven! Aww, so glad to hear it is soothing you to sleep, especially in these trying times. Actually makes me wonder: is there an opening for a Lara Croft-narrated Headspace meditation and relaxation album? *ponders*

    I came across these on itunes and I'm totally blown away! *_* AOD was the first TR game I ever played when I was a kid and it got me hooked to the franchise! Listening to these episodes makes me feel very nostalgic and they also make me smile a lot haha X) Your voice is absolutely perfect! THIS is exactly how I imagined the old Lara would sound like :) It's very well written as well! The story is much easier to follow and understand and it's all explained in such detail, it's awesome! Keep up the awesome work you guys, I cannot wait to hear more ^.^

    Absolutely marvelous!
    You put on a great performance with both your top-notch voice acting and engaging story telling.
    In my humble opinion, I found your version of The Angle of Darkness even more compelling than its source material.
    I'll definitely be following this series as you upload it, and I'm looking forward to the next part eagerly.

    Mmm, Lara took the 'Pierre-route' here. No 'miserable old devil called Bernard' in this story. I absolutely loved the fact that you could choose there in the Parisian Ghetto levels (but understand that that was not doable here in an audiobook - but why did you choose for 'total-loser' Pierre if I may ask? :D).

    • @JRMilward
      @JRMilward  7 лет назад +2

      Thanks for the comment. I think it was mainly because the cafe route allowed us to foreshadow Kurtis, who was sitting in the cafe. I think we see him zoom off on his motorbike after leaving the club regardless of the way we choose to enter; but that moment kick-started the idea that Kurtis was actively stalking Lara, as opposed to "whoops, I left my bike parked here... oh, hello classy lady - see ya!" x'D

    • @MdB92
      @MdB92 7 лет назад +1

      Yeah, that indeed makes more sense (storywise). In the game you could largely do both paths (with a little 'cheating') and obtain nearly all items. In the game I like the route through the garage more so that's why I often chose Bernards route. Anyway, a big thumbs up for this excellent audiobook, great production value! I'm a big AoD fan so it is nice to experience this wave of nostalgia :) By the way, does it 'only' cover the main storyline of AoD or does it contain the 'complete' story as envisioned by Murti Schofield (since AoD originally was meant to be only the first part of a trilogy)?

    • @JRMilward
      @JRMilward  7 лет назад +2

      I'm glad you're enjoying it so far :-) At the moment, the audio adaptation only covers my novelisation of events in AoD (link to my website for free download in the description). Together with a friend, I'm currently writing a two-part sequel; although Murti and I are great friends, the sequel's basic outline was planned out before I got to know what sort of ideas he had up his sleeve for a sequel. He's since published most of this material - which was never more than ideas, nothing 'decided upon' officially by the company... and, of course, which never got beyond that stage - over at Tomb of Ash, if you're interested in reading it. He had loads of things he wanted to do, characters to create, and locations to explore, but it never moved beyond the notes stage. (Curses!). That said, there are quite a few interesting (and coincidental) parallels in terms of themes and characterisation between his ideas and the story I've ended up writing; it's good to know I'm following in the spirit of AoD, if not Murti's exact ideas. It would be WONDERFUL to adapt the sequel into an audiobook format one day, but for now that's a pretty distant pipe dream hehe. This is my first audio production, even though I've been doing voice acting 11+ years; it's been a joy to do, so it definitely won't be the last!

      Thanks for this elaborate answer. Great to hear you are not yet done with the story of/surrounding AoD - I am very curious to see how the story continues in your version of the sequal and can't wait to read/hear it eventually. Good luck with the writing process.
