  • French company DCNS won the contract to build Australia’s next fleet of submarines, according to an announcement made by Australia’s prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull, on Tuesday, April 26.
Bids for the AU$50 billion (US$39 billion) contract also came from Germany and Japan.
Turnbull said the submarines would be built in Australia with Australian steel and will employ locals in the production. He added that the submarines would be serviced in Adelaide and that the contract would generate 2,800 jobs.
This video shows a pre-concept design submitted by DCNS for what they described as “the world’s most advanced conventionally-powered submarine”, and named the Shortfin Barracuda Block 1A.

Initially, DCNS promised that 90% of the parts will be made in Australia. But in recent meeting with Aussie law makers. The new CEO of DCNS Australia is backing away from that number. In a sense. Aussie tax payers will be investing AU$ 50 billion to create jobs in France.

+Johnny Saint China isn't that advanced as their newest sub is still as loud as a 80's era Akula and buying Chinese subs would be stupid considering the differences between Australia and China on the South China sea. Russia and Australia's relationship was shattered after MH17 and Australia has sanctions on them. America doesn't make conventional subs.
