For anyone wondering, he did buy halal chicken. If you watch, you can see he chooses “Crescent Foods Halal Hand Cut “ chicken and depending on your location, you can find it in your local Walmarts also.
Bro I just make straight up shawarma at home every week now. I marinade my chicken in chilli powder, paprika, cumin and curry, then put a whole lime worth of juice in, and let it sit. Then I put down hummus and tzakiki on my pita (tzakiki instead of the authentic garlic sauce from back home because I don’t have access to it) but then chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, purple onion, pickle, and feta cheese. Grill it up for a minute, and wallah you have beautiful cheap shawarma. It’s haram and my lady and I love it
I love so much about this video: buying the ingredients at the store and then not opening a cupboard full of spices that are usually $2-$3 per spice, accurate comparison to pricing at a fast food restaurant. Great video Ahmed
When I was 10, I started to cook, and it’s honestly so fun. Meanwhile my older brother even now barely knows how to cook😒 but please teach me biryani. Some recipes are not that good.
I hope we get more vids like this, I'm interested to try this out especially cause of how cheap it is and cause they'll be more than enough leftovers. And besides the fries (which are still fine cause there's little/no oil) the ingredients are really good. And I love that you actually to us to the store and showed what ingredients u used and then trying to only use those when making the food
Love this recipe thanks for encouraging us to cook I’m 22 and slowly have been learning many different things over the years mainly thanks to my mother and watching other people keep being awesome!
You know we're fucked here in the US when a video showing how to "feed your family for $25" showing a single meal is getting loads of views because it's considered affordable.
When the title said, feed you family for $25, I thought they must get really cheap items, have a great veggie garden, or a group have gotten together to buy in bulk and split the costs to be able to feed a family for a week on that amount, I didn't think it was for one meal, and not a very healthy one at that.
@@jennysmith38 the amount of "unhealthiness" from this meal is negligible in a balanced diet. There are much worse things to eat that people normally eat on a regular basis. Also $25 doesn't include fridge and pantry staples, though I wouldn't call this cheap, it's still not too expensive.
One thing about the tzatziki though, you have to either use a seedless cucumber or scoop out the seeds, and then after grating it you need to salt it and let it sit for at least 10 minutes, soaking it completely dry afterwards. Essentially the cucumber needs to be as dry as possible and have no seeds as it ruins the texture+flavor. Some dill or even parsley goes a really long way and takes tzatziki up a few notches, also only costing a dollar max.
Please use this platform and show others how to grocery shop such a valuable life skill even if you can’t cook fancy stuff just knowing how to shop for good deals and look for fresh stuff is so important everyone should learn
Not the same prices in Canada. A bag of fries is 6$, a small pack of chicken breasts is 14$, tomatoes are 4.50/lb, yogurt starts at 5.79$ and most spices are 8$. Ran out of $ a long time ago for the lemon
You know I really think specifying that he’s not judging for eating fast food is helpful, a lot of people got really into cooking over the pandemic (myself included) and it can almost feel like you’re failing yourself when you just want to pick up some greasy fast food and chow down, so it’s honestly really helpful to hear him say that
Can’t wait to try this!! Also I’m this is so my pace! I go to the store everyday. I can’t never remember to take meat out and when I do it’s not what we want. Easy ingredients to pick up and quick meal.
This looks soooooo good! But all that would cost $40 over here in New Zealand 😭 I'm running out of ideas for dinners though so thank you for these recipes ❤️
Someone’s family is not gonna eat because of that 1 extra dollar
Gotta factor in tax. Plus the chicken is sold in different quantities, they could just pick the cheapest one.
Even better when you make your own flatbread. So long as you have a staple anything can be a meal out of it
I guess most people have spices and stuff, so you can save even more here instead of buying the seasoning.
