Thanks for giving Articles Quiz practice. ✍️
Thanks for your comment.
Most sentences are phrased in a manner that allows for more than one correct answer.
Article "A" or "An" refer to non-specific nouns.
Article "The" refers to a single specific noun.
Your introductory explanation correctly makes this point, but again the test sentences are worded too vaguely to justify a specific answer.
Examples:
#1: "John, would you please pass me the apple?"
(If there were only one apple)
#2: "John, please take the dog for a walk."
(If there were only one dog)
#4: "For his heroic action, the honor goes to Captain Jones."
#5: "The hour is near." Meaning time is drawing to a close.
#6: "Be sure to drop the car off."
#8: "He graduated from the University last year."
#9: "A new moon was discovered."
#10: "Did you see the newest elephant at the zoo?"
#11: "He finally decided to take the European rather than the
South American tour; it was much cheaper."
#12: ALL answers are incorrect.
There is no article that precedes "Iceland." Just as we would not
say "the England," or "the India."
#13: If only one umbrella you could be referring, then answer C.
#14: Answer C also if referring to a specific teacher.
#15: "A sun will typically have other planetary bodies orbiting it."
#16: Answer C if referring to a specific movie.
#17: Answer C also.
#18: Capitalize "United States."
#19, #20: Answer C also.
#21: Answer C also. "He's the honest person I was telling you about."
#22. #23: Answer C also.
