The Gigapress is not something special for just EV's. Any and all car manufacturers could use this process and benefit from the process. Only Tesla took the initiative and risk to invest and prove out this process. Other manufacturers are starting to investigate using them as well. The only problem is that it does require higher volume in order to make it cost effective.

Gigapress is a great idea but the batteries reliability, charge time, energy density and especially price are still the single most important factors. Once all EVs have batteries that solve all these longstanding issues, then manufacturing price of the car itself will play more a role. This is why Tesla market share in China has gone down considerably despite building EVs there and even buying Chinese batteries. Leading Chinese companies like BYD are slightly ahead in battery value. You can buy a BYD Seagull for less than $10K in China. Tesla is trying to build a cheap EVs but up to now they are nowhere near that price even in China.. And on the higher end Zeeker's new 007 is pretty close to a Tesla features for thousands less with batteries that have longer range and charge faster.

Absolutely great, but any ICE car manufacturer could also adopt this technology. The critical path then becomes making the price of the motive power, the battery and electric motor, less expensive than an ICE motor. In the mean time Tesla keeps a good few lengths ahead of its competitors. If Elon would just stick to his knitting for a few years and stop commenting on all sorts of things and, horror of horror, supporting Trump, the revolution would come even faster. All that is necessary is that an electric car is 5% cheaper than an equivalent ICE car. And we need a 'peoples car'. Elon is a genius. That doesn't necessarily mean he is an expert in subjects outside of his core genius.
