Rodney's Fishing Adventure Thanks for the videos. New sub here and learning from you 👌 Im from Coachella Valley CA I wanna take my kids to San Diego what is the best place to go fishing for halibut in San Diego. Thanks in advance and excuse my English.
Awesome. Can’t wait for the surf fishing vid! I agree with the earlier comment. Very cool videos for beginners and also for us that love fishing. See ya out there someday!!! And heck ya keep them good vibes going!!!
This was so awesome As someone completely new to surf fishing you made the drop shot look so simple and the catch and cook with your family Fantastic Thank you
I've been watching your vids. Going to cali this weekend to fish the piers. I wanna go for these halibut with my daughter. We mainly fish large mouth here in AZ. Cool seeing a Filipino RUclips fisherman!
I wish you luck! if you are going to the shelter island pier, there will be a huge spotted bay bass tournament saturday feb 16th , right next to the boat launch. you should check it out
Great videos! It makes me wanna try fishing in San Diego when I visit. Even though I dont know the spots your videos give me enough confidence to at least try. I cant wait until my next visit!
Not to knock the video it is awesome by the way I Kayak fish alot I know we need to have a net on board when fishing for flatties check with local fish n game keep the videos coming really inspired me to go back to shore fishing which is we're my obsession started
Going to try this tomorrow. Have caught calico/sporty bass, but never have tried to catch halibut. I have seen other people catch halibut so I’ll see if I can get one
What is this spot called? I know it's in the SD Bay. I'm from L.A. and would love to fish down there in your neck of the woods. Halibuts are bitting up here! Good job! I'll try to shot some more vids here in L.A. Thanks.
You can measure from The halibuts closed mouth to the longest lobe of the tail in one straight line instead of just straight down the middle. Halibut can have a injured tail where one lobe is significantly longer than the other. No worries on on this nice fish but you might find a 21 inch appearing halibut with the odd tail condition and the longer lobe might make the difference to be a be a keeper. 26 from shore is a very descent size halibut, also better eating than the big boat size Halibut.
Rodney... As always, great video. I am curious which or type of knot you tied the hook with?? Don't see the traditional 'drop loop' for the hook. Looks like the hook is tight to the leader line somehow?? Sure wish I knew where this spot is. Care to share???
Ah... The basic Palomar Knot. I am so used to seeing the 'loop' technique whenever a drop shop is used. This is so much simpler, have to try it soon. Thanks gobs!!
San Diego is a beautiful place to fish. There are many places. I would recommend fishing from Harbor Island or from Shelter Island. Casting from the rocks! good luck.
Can’t get to that spot anyways, I’m assuming he’s navy because he’s at a navy submarine base. Tried to get there one time not knowing that it was a base and ran into a baracade where a guy holding an M4 who took my drivers license info, license plate number and sent me packin hahaha.
Do you mind telling me where a good spot is for spotties are in San Diego with not much eel grass, also would the white grubs work for spotties on a jig, I just caught an octopus on one haha
Loved this video & I caught my first halibut "not legal size" after taking your tips. The look on your uncles face was priceless. Where is that spot dude? I'm from Louisiana but happen to live in San Diego. I've been looking for a great fishing spot for me and my kids to go catch halibut. Any tips on a great location?
Darin Nakakihara thanks :) I try very very hard for my uncle that day haha. I usually cast 20 min in each spot before I move 30 yards away to another spot
awesome video man lol really enjoy watching ur dropshot videos especially on saltwater. i prefer to use a worm hook to avoid getting snagged but that didn't stop the sinker from getting caught -.- wat i really like about dropshot is that you catch so many different range of fish especially the bottom dwellers. still yet to catch a fish on the dropshot though haha XD lol
patience and persistence! I fished harbor island all the time. Never really film there because a lot of people there haha. but the halibut and spotted bay bass fishing is good. If you throw fresh mackeral , big bat rays and even leopard sharks like to play
You've inspired me to fish with this same rig. I remember you doing this before at the boat docks. I remember your "twitch, twitch, twich" method. On this vid, you reeled steadily. Is one way better than the other, or do you do both? Thanks again, Rodney!
Yes I remember the twitch method, however that is with the zoom fluke bait, not the grubs. Same drop shot method, but different bait/lure. Honestly they are 50/50 with flukes and grubs. try them both if one doesnt get you bit :D
LMAO! man oh man I had THE footage of a bass biting my bottle cap lure UNDER WATER! But I deleted it by mistake, thinking I transferred it to my computer :( .. BUT im still on the hunt
Yea i think ur right....im not lookn to go to the exact same spot.....more like the general area. Its not like his spots are private n no one else can fish or find them. But whatever im not tripn. All the types of fish hes catchn can be caught anywhere in the bay. As i have seen by numerous other videos of fishn in the bay
Hey! sorry for the late response. A great general fishing spot for taking your boys out, is shelter island, harbor island, and coronado island. You will need a fishing license to fish from the shore or rocks. If you dont want to buy a license, fishing on any public fishing pier in california is free :)
@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel hey thanks for the info i appreciate it. My boys are gona love it. Yea me n my wife have our licenses and 2nd rod stamps and ocean stamps. My boys dont need em yet...theyre both under 16. Hey Rodney i would like to try out that spot where there is a cement walkway that goes out into the water about 20 feet. Ive seen other guys post videos from that same spot n it produces fish. There is like a white hotel behind it. I could see it in all the videos ive seen. Id appreciate it if u can give me that exact location...TIA 👍😊
Hey bro in your experience what is the best season of the year for catching halibut? I would guess late spring/early summer. Do you catch them year round?
I wanna try your technique for halibut. And I wanna go to this same area if u can just tell me were this exactly. I love fishing on the pier but this time I wanna try halibut salamat

I have a foot peddle kayak too! I just dont want to film while fishing on the yak. Personal opinion
I do enjoy watching all of your video... Nice music and information comes together with really good catch.

Very clean and to the point dude grand job!
thanks boss!
Frikkin awesome! Loved the video. I'm gonna try this tomorrow
hope you had some success! how did you do ?
@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel Thank you! Caught a little one...about 10 inches. Coming back this weekend to see what else I can fool.
Awesome video rodney.
Awesome video man!!
Thank you for showing how you landed this fish by grabbing the tail and the neck. Great catch!
Thanks!
You make it look so easy! Good catch!
haha thanks! still very very hard :D
Awesome catch! may i know which pier or spot did you catch this halibut? im in SD too, want to know some good spot for halibut. 👍👍
Yeah where's the spot at tho
I found his halibut spots on gopal maps and they are by the naval base idk if it’s publicly accessible. Lol that’s why he gets so lucky.
Bro you’re a beast, been watching your vids just recently
thanks man:) I wish I can fish more, but time is getting less and less nowadays:)
I really like your energy when you fish man, I just subbed and I look forward for more vids my fellow Filipino fisherman 👌👌👌👌
thanks! comments like yours, keep me motivated to making more vids
Another epic video braddah!
Andrei Galvez thanks man !!
Great video as always! 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks man!
Awesome video Rodney!
The hali whisperer at it again
:D
Uncle Rico’s stoked!
hahaha he was so stoked !
Nice video man and great catch !
I've always had good luck drop shoting in Mission Bay with the hookup baits , I'm gonna have to try your method next time I go though 👌
Troy Wolf oh for sure ! I caught some legals this year using that method you use ! Tight line yo !!
What color give you the best luck
Troy Wolf so do you use a 3/8ths or lighter then add a drop shot weight?
Awesome video like always u the man!!!
Thanks man!! very stoked on the catch
It mimics the underside of a smelt man, nice Hali!
Wise words! thanks for the share
Rodney's Fishing Adventure no worries keep on casting man!!!
Great video bro would u recommend a tranx 400ahg for flounder fishing?
ooo! that is a great reel. I recommend it
Have you fished Lake Morena in campo?
Would love to see you do a video fishing up here :-)
ooooo i never fished there before! i would like to someday
Beautiful beast. Good job!
Thanks Tam!
ive been ooking for a good set up like this for flounder. thanks dude, you just earned yourself another sub
Thanks and welcome!
Great video.! I like videos like these for people who are just starting. Thank you for the tips 🤙
Fernando_Aranda no problem ! Thanks for the positive vibes. Hope to teach my kids someday :)
Good catch Rodney!! Why are the white on one side. I seen in the water how they lay flat is that right?
they lay on one side. they are predator fish that ambush prey when digging themselves into the sand. hence why drop shots are supper effective :D
Going to try this tomorrow. Have caught calico/sporty bass, but never have tried to catch halibut. I have seen other people catch halibut so I’ll see if I can get one
Great job. Good description. Tight lines. :)
thanks boss!
Great video!!
Much Appreciated!
good job man Really good info you're sharing
Thanks man. that is what fishing is all about. really appreciate it
Great video, Rodney! Where in S.D. bay are you fishing? Nice sandy bottom!
close to the mouth of the bay . and thank you!
Rodney... that's on the Naval Base, right?
I know you have access... but I don't!
favorite videos!!!!! what reel do you use brotha???
thanks! Im using a diawa tatula
Would the drop shot work in fresh water also? Thanks keep up the videos Rodney learned a lot
thanks man! Yes the drop shot works for freshwater. I utilize 6lb test instead of the 12lb to 15lb test I use in salt
What is this spot called? I know it's in the SD Bay. I'm from L.A. and would love to fish down there in your neck of the woods. Halibuts are bitting up here! Good job! I'll try to shot some more vids here in L.A. Thanks.
Where was this? Im at mission bay yesterday and today and can't find a spot that's clear or without weeds that hang me up every cast
2 halibut disliked this video
Bobby Lee lmao !!! This got me laughing
Question Sir, What pound test is your line?
I m using 25 lb braid , with 15 lb floro
You can measure from The halibuts closed mouth to the longest lobe of the tail in one straight line instead of just straight down the middle. Halibut can have a injured tail where one lobe is significantly longer than the other. No worries on on this nice fish but you might find a 21 inch appearing halibut with the odd tail condition and the longer lobe might make the difference to be a be a keeper.
26 from shore is a very descent size halibut, also better eating than the big boat size Halibut.
Do you use a leader? If so, what size braid? What size leader?
Great question, yes i was using a leader. I like using 25 lb braided line, to a 3 foot leader line of 15 lb floro
Keep it upl
will do and try!
Bad ass as always Rodney. Looks like your uncle loved it! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Leo Solis yes!! He shared a pic about how to cooked it ! Super dope
Love the videos man!!! Keep em coming.
thanks!
Rodney... As always, great video. I am curious which or type of knot you tied the hook with?? Don't see the traditional 'drop loop' for the hook. Looks like the hook is tight to the leader line somehow?? Sure wish I knew where this spot is. Care to share???
I made a video on it on my previous halibut video . ruclips.net/video/2Qe9CoCKw8s/видео.html
hope you enjoy!
Ah... The basic Palomar Knot. I am so used to seeing the 'loop' technique whenever a drop shop is used. This is so much simpler, have to try it soon. Thanks gobs!!
Great catch! Your vids never disappoint.
thanks man
What kind of knot did you use on the hook to leader? Nice doormat, by the way.
Love your vids man
Where is this location? We will be in San Diego next weekend and want to just fish and would love to be in this spot.

Ik I investigated his spot on hogan maps this spot and the one that faces open ocean are both near naval base and idk if you can get in🤷
Love your videos man. I'm just as passionate about halibut fishing. I target them here in LA though.
dope!!! I would love to catch a halibut in LA someday.
Do you mind telling me where a good spot is for spotties are in San Diego with not much eel grass, also would the white grubs work for spotties on a jig, I just caught an octopus on one haha
Nice Bro. You should try Kayak fishing too.
I do ! I have a hobie foot peddle :D I just dont like filming when im kayaking. I find it therapeutic not thinking about anything but fishing
Nice. I alot of kayakers from San Francisco go there for tuna or sea bass.
Super rad man!! 🤙🏻
Thanks Greg!
You make it look so easy bro... I've only have one legal in last 5 years lol
heyyyy!!!!! thats still a legal! they are hard to get.
Update I finally caught another legal 2 weeks ago 34 inches in mission bay :)
I gotta try that spot
:D Theres a lot of good spots around San Diego. I tried this spot 3 times(days) before getting hit with the halibut
Nice video

Darin Nakakihara thanks :) I try very very hard for my uncle that day haha. I usually cast 20 min in each spot before I move 30 yards away to another spot

Basic_Fishing ..Mission Point Park?
What’s the best session to go spring or summer?
Amazing bro, been fishing the bay a bit recently and catch NOTHING. Your vids will surely help!
patience and persistence! I fished harbor island all the time. Never really film there because a lot of people there haha. but the halibut and spotted bay bass fishing is good. If you throw fresh mackeral , big bat rays and even leopard sharks like to play
You should use a dropper loop, it’s would probably be more effective than a drop shot. Lovin’ the halibut videos 👍
Im going to try that next time haha. thanks for the tip!
Nice catch! Just watch out for the jaws. They're very powerful. They can bite a chunk out of you.
thank you! Very sharp! haha i found out the hard way years ago lol
You've inspired me to fish with this same rig. I remember you doing this before at the boat docks. I remember your "twitch, twitch, twich" method. On this vid, you reeled steadily. Is one way better than the other, or do you do both? Thanks again, Rodney!

Rodney, please bring back the ballast point lure. Other bottle caps are welcome as well :)
LMAO! man oh man I had THE footage of a bass biting my bottle cap lure UNDER WATER! But I deleted it by mistake, thinking I transferred it to my computer :( .. BUT im still on the hunt
freaking love how you watched that video hahaha
Rodney's Fishing Adventure brother, i watch all of your videos.
Did I miss it? I never saw how you tied the sinker on
What part of the bay is that
Niiiiiiiice!!!!! I’m heading to Coronado in June with my family and my kids love to fish. Can I email you for some tips??
Where in San Diego is this at?

Lol hi tito rodney 😂
Nice! Happy uncle. :) Do u also have a problem with the grub's tail getting caught on its hook?
Love it!
thanks! when we going to slay again?!

12#, mentioned in video 😊
